Outstanding basketball camp in Louisville this weekend hosted by John Lucas with many of the top rated 8-11 graders attending, however due to the restrictive rules of the present KHSAA I have heard of only one 9 grade kentucky player that can attend. Sad for Kentucky players!

What rule is that, please?

By-law 8, that does not allow a Kentucky basketball player to participate in any organized outside games after school has started. No problem for top players from other states to attend this elite camp but not Kentucky players in grades 10 and 11.

Thanks for the response. If this is correct it is a darn shame. But I thought bylaw 8 forbid participation in things like church leagues and rec leagues until end-of-season, but had a rules interpretation exempting training opportunities paid for by the player that included incidental teams setup more as pickup games to facilitate the training camps. Some KY players above grade 9 have been announced for this camp, btw.

Hope you are correct, however I know that Mr. Lucas asked for an exemption for the camp last year and was turned down. While he was organizing the camp this year he made a request that Kentucky people call KHSAA so that they might grant an exemption.....last I heard one had not been granted. If older kids are in the camp then maybe so.....as of 2 weeks ago I only knew of one older kid in the camp from Kentucky and he was ineligible to play this year anyway.

The facts show you are correct and the Ky kids had to bow out of this. What is the rationale or justification the KHSAA makes to disallow this?

Can't understand the rationale. By what I understand Coach Lucas and his staff have bent over backwards trying to get exemptions WANTING DESPERATELY FOR KENTUCKY KIDS TO BE INCLUDED. They have honored kentucky in allowing us to be the host of one of the most prestigious, if not the most prestigious, elite basketball camps in the nation. Can't understand the reasoning of KHSAA. Seems like a 'power thing'. I'm not a fan of the direction that 'ex-referee Tackett' is taking our basketball giving the referees unbelieveable power over coaches with little to no accountability. Seems to all be a control thing.

The KHSAA needs a total revamping in many areas of their service.
