Turf Coming to Floyd County!
#1
Looks like at the end of the season, Betsy Layne and Prestonsburg will be getting turf for the football field.

I would like to congratulate both programs for such good news, because they have probably two of the worst fields in the state.
#2
When did this happen? and what kind of turf. I have seen some artifical turf fields that are nastier than and grass or dirt field.
#3
Good for both of them, god knows they both needed it.
#4
Prestonsburg needs it their field is terrible.
#5
how often does turf need to be replaced?
#6
First I've heard of this.

Strikeout King Wrote:how often does turf need to be replaced?

Surface usually has a life of 8-10 years if i'm not mistaken, longer if it is used exclusively for football. Some types may have shorter or longer life spans, but i'm pretty sure the average is between 8-10.
#8
I heard that it needed to be replaced every year
#9
I know that this is happening. I think the Board of Education is getting it. Rumor was the same group that did Johnson central is in talks to put it at both schools.

I think the jist of the other schools (allen central and south floyd) not getting it, is because of the consolidation in a few years.
#10
AC and SF will consolidate and have first rate facilities in a few years.

I always wondered why they weren't consolidated in the first place.
#12
StrikeoutKing,

No. I think 10 years is the generally accepted life span.

They don't have turf? They play in the mud ????

LOL, who ever told you that doesn't know what they're talking about. Artificial or Synthetic turf lasts 10-12 years.

That's what I heard. They had to agree to an add on the field though........ In one endzone its going to say "He Never" and in the other it will say "LEFT!"
:lmao:

Perhaps an agreement that any injuries will be represented by his office? Confusednicker:

They were going to reconsolidate the BL gym as well (paid for by the man himself) but the renaming would have been an issue: "The Betsy Layne Conndome"
lol

This is good news for both teams if they needed it but personally I hate turf.
I really hated playing on it in school. Seemed like it was so easy to get stuck on and twisted around because a foot was caught in the tough turf.
It might just be me, but theres nothing like sweet bermuda, and its feels a lot better when you hit it as well.

the newer sports turf is pretty good stuff.
Beats the snot out of the astro turf of old
If you buy the quality stuff it's must better than any natural surface

My kids say they hate turf too RIUTG. It is hotter in the summer because the black rubber pellet matting holds heat and when you hit the ground hard it flies up into your eyes and mouth. I watched a kid practicing punting on turf recently and when the ball would come down hard on the turf there would be a black cloud fly up about one or two feet where the ball hit. Then I understood what my kids were telling me. Turf only has advantages on rainy days. But any of you who actually played, didn't you love playing games in a big rain in the mud? It might be a lineman thing.

Turf sucks in the rain too, black pellets stuck all over you. I enjoy the mud myself, made it organized chaos on the field.

I am afraid to think what a turf field d0nated by Eric C. Conn will resemble.

I am picturing his phone number every 10 yards, Statue of Liberty stretched across each end zone, and the phrase "SSI or DISABILITY" in at least 4 spots.
#27
Must be nice to get turf. lol

Paintsville had a chance to get it, but they called a no go and got some good Bermuda put down instead. It is alot better I personally hate turf, there is no fun involved in a rain game when there is no mud.

"build it and they will come"
