Here are some of my predictions for starting lineups next season:
Offense:
QB: Darrell Mahan (Junior) or Drew McDavid (Senior) depending on the maturation of Mahan
FB: Fields Davis (Senior)
RB: Matt Thomas (Junior, 2 year starter)
WR: Luke Bonner (Senior, 1 year starter) and Drew McDavid (Senior, 2 year starter)
TE: Ryan Bonner (Sophmore)
LT: Lacy Snodgrass (Senior, 1 year starter)
LG: Brandon Dixon (Senior)
C: Jesse Parsley (Senior)
RG: Josh Cordle (Senior, 1 year starter)
RT: Michael Walters (Senior, 2 year starter)
Key Noteables: OL Josh Salisbury (Sophmore), OL Andrew Dillon (Junior), OL Justin Pennington (Sophmore)
Defense:
DT: Travis Gallaher (Senior, 2 year starter)
DT: Michael Walters (Senior)
DE: Jeremy Nethercutt (Junior)
DE: Brian Salyers (Senior)
ILB: Fields Davis (Senior, 2 year starter)
ILB: Cordell Earl (Junior)
M/R: I really see these 2 spots as complete question marks on the
M/R: team, I don't know who will most likey replace Gurule and Cannoy
CB: Drew McDavid (3 year starter)
CB: Matt Thomas (3 year starter)
FS: Luke Bonner (1 year starter)
Special Teams:
Punter: ???
Place Kicker: Preston Freeman (1 year starter) or Sean Barrett (starter before being removed from team, Will Barrett return to the team next season?)
Returners: Drew McDavid, Luke Bonner, and possibly Matt Thomas

I say ashland will have some up and downs next season, I say the QB spot is open to whoever like Drew and Darell but right now everything is open on that team till trainning camp. But overall I think ashland will see another district play but I think it will be a parcticall reloaded team.

Jeremy Nethercutt will be a big contender next season on D.

I would say yes but u never know u could get another kid from a different school but right now I think he will be young and he has the learning process to go through. But right now lets see next yr

Does the Mahan kid have a arm? Does Drew?
11-25-2005, 05:30 PM
If your talken about accuracy I would pick drew because he knows how to stay in the pocket, I watched a few of darrels JV games and he scrambles when their is pressure darell=young Drew= vet and knows how to handle pressure.
bUT the darrell boy sure has a good arm but only thing he has to overcome is pocket presence.

Darrell also has to overcome his butter fingers that he showed in nearly every varsity game this season when he saw the field. A QB that can't play without fumbling somewhere between the snap and handoff more than once in a blue moon will never see extensive playing time.
When he throws, Mahan has a great arm. I think in all, his arm is better than Drew's.
Drew brings the diversity as being one of the fastest people on the field and a large threat of a running quarterback.
You also have to think that making Drew the QB hampers the passing game by taking him away as the best receiver on next year's team. That is another advantage for Mahan to get the nod over Drew.
In all honesty, I'd like to see McDavid get 15-20 touches a ball game, whether it be throwing, running, or catching the ball. He is most likely the most dominant player on the team along with Fields Davis. If he doesn't get many touches, I don't see this as being as successful season for Ashland as it could be.

Yes, Matt Thomas will only be a Junior next season. He has been the Tomcat full-time TB for the last 2 seasons.

I already think I know who the two back fielders will be HB Matt thomas FB Fields Davids.

tomcatnation, what is your predictions for the starting spots for next season and why?
12-01-2005, 11:50 AM
The Monster/Rover positions are wide open, for anyone whos willing to work for them.Id think that if Chris Hall was healthy he could earn one.
Id say the spots would be a dogfight between
Chris Hall-works really hard when healthy, but has been plagued with a torn acl/mcl, and hasnt been able to lift since last year.
Kyle Poplin-Was a good JV linebacker, also works hard
Zach King-Ive been told that he has gotten his grades up to all A's B's and C's and will play next year. Ive also heard that him and Mahan have been at the YMCA everyday after school, improving strength, working with Ian Holbrook. And another kid who work hard.
Tyler Slone- Very Very hard worker, who will do anythng asked of him. Size is sometimes a fctor though.
Castle is a possibility, but you cant put him into an open space to guard against pass, but if he works on footwork, then its a realistic possibility.
Id think you'll likely see two of these on the field, but anything can happen in the offseason, look for Duncan, and Sparks to work at getting a lot of PT on defense to.
IM ALREADY READY FOR FALL

I believe the kids took a one week break when the season ended and they are already back in the weightroom during school getting ready for next season.

What are some of your thoughts between McDavid an Mahan? IMO McDavid is a good quarterback but wants to stick with the wide out spot and get the ball thrown to him?
12-02-2005, 04:12 PM
yeah

A-Town Wrote:What are some of your thoughts between McDavid an Mahan? IMO McDavid is a good quarterback but wants to stick with the wide out spot and get the ball thrown to him?
I think that whatever McDavid sets his goals on and is willing to work for, combined with coach's wishes, is where Drew will be.
12-03-2005, 03:04 AM
I've been hearing that Zach King is wanting to play a little moster?
12-03-2005, 11:07 AM
Here is what I think this offseasons the ones that bust their butt and give their 100 percent will be placed at positions that the coaches think they should be at and place a QB that they think will lead the team and help out in the long run. It is not a students choice to go where they want to go on the team but the coaches choice such as leon.

A-Town Wrote:I've been hearing that Zach King is wanting to play a little moster?
This is also true from what i hear...If he works hard, and does all that the coaches ask of him, then i would like to see Chris Hall, and him at those two positions(that is if there isnt a big transfer, or position change..)
12-03-2005, 01:18 PM
^ True, What does people think about the backfield? who do you think will be the Wide Outs, and Backfield?

What is it with this thread its basketball season in the hs world but here is my prediction and it seems that the same questions have been asked over and over and over again on who is gonna be where. And here is mine
QB Drew
FB Davis
HB matt
DE's Bryan and whoever steps up during trainning
LBS I know of one and that is Davis and whoever the coaches put into that roster.
but seeingthis htread and the same questions over and over it makes me want to :Hammer3:

I'd say the other LB position will be filled by Josh Cordle.
12-23-2005, 06:40 PM
The other LB position is a big question. Cordle is the only one who has some varsity experience, and he only got a few snaps during the year. There are a few younger kids who could step in there, Salisbury, Poplin, but i think it will be a rotation of a few different kids, playing the one whos playing the best at the time. They may have to move Davis around to make up for the lack of experience, maybe moving him to the strong side every play or something like that but i wouldn't be surprised if i see it.
12-24-2005, 03:04 AM
I'd think that Cordle has that position pretty well locked up. I think he has shown that he has the ability to make big plays on the Varsity level, and is a terrific player.
