Unemployment should be down in KY
#1
What's up with all of the out of towners moving to KY? Texas, Canada, New York?? Are u kidding me? How are all these kids getting eligible? Their mommys and daddys have to move right? Transfer of guardianship doesn't work right?

It is the land of opportunity. I heard they were moving the Statue of Liberty to the Hwy 15/Mountain Parkway exit/intersection in Campton. University of Kentucky may have more Kentucky players on their team then Cordia does this year.

I heard someone say last night at the Black Gold that they heard Obama invested some of his stimulous money in to this, and h*ll it created more new jobs than anything else he has done. Confusednicker:

I think its much easier to get the kids eligible if parents move but u can do it without the parents in some situations. Just read the thread on PCC and Cordia. I think in the case of PCC the parents are here with him.

Dont know about that but the job market here is pretty good considering what everyone else is going through. I look to see more ppl coming to this area because of the coal companys. If Obama will let go of a few more mining permits.

Yep. Lets pass over experienced coal miners in Kentucky and hire those members of the Friends of Coal - Buffalo and Houston Chapters. There are an abundance of out of work coal miners in both areas. Heck, according to the Republicans and Rick Perry, Texas has the best economy in the nation.

Lets b frank here...if an experienced coal miner really wants a job in this area he/she usually doesnt have a problem finding one. Most, not all coalminers that are out of work is because 1)they cant pass a drug test or 2)just really dont want to work. Ive been doing this a long time. trust me!!!!

You can b Frank and I will be serious and get to the point. If someone from New York or Texas is looking for a job, the last place they will look is Southeastern Kentucky unless they are natives or have family ties. I have been around basketball in Eastern Kentucky for over twenty years as an adult and trust me, if someone from Houston and the Buffalo metro area is coming here to play basketball, they are being illegally recruited. Can it be proven. No one knows as it appears that the supervising agencies are making no attempt to. There seems to be incriminating evidence out there but it appears they are turning a blind eye to it. They would rather pick on easy targets such as Pike Central football then attempt to stir up bigger cans of worms. What went on at Pike Central is no worse then what has been going on in the 14th region for years and is getting worse by the day. Especially in basketball. I would guarantee the jobs these people are getting are through political contacts and boosters through the community. They may be qualified for their positions but I am sure that some local people are too, but their little Johnny cannot dunk a basketball. Oh by the way, in reference to previous posts of better job opportunities here during bad economic times, the unemployment rate for both Knott and Perry County hovers in the 11 to 12 percentile range. In Jamestown, New York it is 8.6% and it is around 9% in the Houston metro area. So much for that ideology.

U are right, this has been going on for yrs in the 14th and EVERYWHERE else in this state for that matter and little johnny might b able to dunk a ball but his/her daddy or mommy cant pass a drug test. Dont even start with the pike central deal. A blind person could have saw that one coming. When ur coach is traveling to 3 diff counties every morning to pick up 5 or 6 diff kids it kinda hard to get away with. Ive heard all the arguments that u and anewpat have came up with and i still say LET THEM PLAY!!! If it takes some local kids playing time then tell them to hit the gym and the court. Life is not always fair and ppl never are!!!

:lame: So I guess you are a proponent of selective rules enforcement by the KHSAA as long as it doesn't effect the schools you support or have a soft spot for. Picking players up in three counties on the way to work any worse then bringing three players with you from another state that are not even in your custody. Anybody that doesn't think what is going on is just as shady as what happened at Pike Central is equally as blind, biased, or just plain stupid.

I think that a guy coming into Eastern Ky to work at a COAL MINE as an I.T person could possibly be a Normal Job offer. Considering that most places around Eastern KY will look else where for Tech people. TECO is based out of Tampa, FL. If they brought a guy in to work for them from Tampa, wouldnt be that strange.

That would be nice if it were true. It is disheartening that KHSAA chooses to look the other way in these situations.

Let's all move to New York where basketball is pure.

Never said it was. I just hope he wasn't told things that will not come true like finding graduation credits.

Aint nobody blind, biased or stupid when it comes to this. Dont know why cordia and some other schools get away with it. I dont make that call the khsaa does!!! At least they r living in the same school district unlike the pike central deal. Thats not the same!!!! Thats like rhodes driving to Perry, Letcher and Leslie county to pick up kids for school and practice everyday. Thats not the same as a kid making a move from 500 miles away WITH HIS FAMILY. Not the same at all.

Thats a shame!! Ur saying this kid is a top player and a D1 talent and he may not graduate. Shame on the state of NY and his coaches. I sure bet if he had stay in NY he woulda graduated and never missed a game. Since u know this kid how many games did he miss last yr because of his grades. From the looks of some of those clips he sure didnt miss the NY state tourney. WOW!!!

So you are saying that all the transfers to Cordia are now living with their parents and not the coach. There are more twists and turns in this story then Hwy 119 on Pine Mtn.

I guarantee that if you eliminated the amount of people that are unemployed because they just don't want to work, those percentages would drop well below 9%!

It is really hard to keep up with, but apparently you missed the lastest on it. It seems one of the boys was homesick and wanted to go back to Houston. Cordia created a job for the Dad of the Williams boys and he moved here, without the rest of the family. Mr. Williams now has guardianship of the Hudson boy. None of his family is here. They are supposedly living in an apartment (free) in what the Lotts Creek crowd calls the dorms. Apparently, years ago, Cordia did have boys and girls dorms that some students lived in. They have set up apartments in them now. Someone posted on here that the boy from Canada was there now. I asked the few people that I know on Lotts Creek and they said they were told two were coming, but to their knowledge neither has showed up yet. Who knows what the truth is there.

If it's been going on for so long, why the fuss now? Do the players on the team have a problem with the transfers?

NewGuy Wrote:If it's been going on for so long, why the fuss now? Do the players on the team have a problem with the transfers?

I have been following high school basketball in this area for three decades. I have never seen any school recruit to the extent that Rhodes is doing at Cordia this year. I do not recall one time when a school recruited 5 to 7 seven players in one season from out of state and even out of the country to play high school basketball in the mountains. I have never seen any school be so open about their recruiting and even brag about it and say that their is nothing the KHSAA can do about it. Add to what's going on at the other schools. The facts are that we have two kids from Brazil in one school, a kid from Canada in two different schools, 3 kids from Texas in one school and a kid from New York in another school. These kids didn't move in over several seasons. That's all in one year. This type of recruiting has not gone on in the mountains "for so long".

If they are providing housing for these students, then they are considering theirselves as a "boarding school". If you look at the KHSAA bylaws, to be considered a boarding school, 10% of the student body has to be living in the dorms or apartments and the coach is not allowed to reside in the same living facilities. I know I am wasting time talking about it but it just amazes me.

I agree it is more than usual and that the location is diff, but its been going on forever and its still RECRUITING!!!! Doesnt matter if its SCOTT County, Cordia, PCC, HHS, KCC or riverside it still is what is and thats recruiting. The cordia kids are eligible and their is nothing ONB or ANEWPAT can say or do about it. If u have achild on that team tell them to play or transfer and go to a school where they can play. If ur kid plays on another team just tell the coach not to schedule them. If thats not good enough then go to the khsaa and do something about it. Please put ur big girl panties or ur big boy boxers on and lets move on with this recruiting deal. Its been happening forever and will continue too!!!!!!!!
