I don't agree with the statement which raised some eyebrows n another thread...but apparently the AP did
#4
Lets hear it Harlan Co. fans.
#5
I don't think Warren Central's schedule thus far is any tougher than HC's. I just don't see it. It would have been nice for HC to have a better schedule but you gotta go with what you can get. But to rank Warren Central over HC was an injustice IMO.
Also,in 1A I don't see Fairview at number 4. If they are going to rank HC like they did because of their schedule they should have ranked Fairview accordingly. They play the weakest schedule of just about any team in the top 10 and to rank them over Pikeville and Hazard is an injustuce IMO.
#6
1. Hazard is better than Fairview.

2. Because of 1, Class A is whack. lol
#7
As of right now Bell Co's schedule looks pretty decent. 4 of the 10 teams are ranked in State.

Lex Cath #2 in 4A
Lex Lafayette #10 in 6A
Harlan Co #5 in 5A
Wayne Co #8 in 3A
Corbin has votes..
#8
Wayne Co has been a real surprise this year. Congrats to them for their accomplishments this far, hope they can keep it up.

1. Mayfield (19) 4-0 190 1

2. Beechwood - 3-0 171 2

3. Lou. Holy Cross - 3-1 130 3

4. Fairview - 4-0 128 5

6. Hazard - 1-1 95 4

7. Harlan - 2-1 71 9

8. Raceland - 2-2 43 10

9. Frankfort - 2-2 40 7

10. KCD - 3-1 21 8

Others receiving votes: 11, Eminence 13. 12, Williamsburg 10. 13, Russellville 7. 14, Paintsville 3. 15, Nicholas Co. 2.

The bolded above is just ridiculous. Paintsville has done NOTHING to receive any votes. And I agree with PT, Hazard is better than Fairview. I think one of the reasons Pikeville is ranked above Hazard is due to having played more games without a loss. I'm NOT saying I agree with that, but just saying that is why I think people have cast more votes for Pikeville. Otherwise, the rankings look pretty good. I would flip Hazard and Pikeville.

I cant wait to make the trip to Wayne Co on the 23rd of this month. Should be a GREAT game with two Top 10 teams going at it!

An injustice? That's laying it on a little thick. Personally, I think if you're upset about Harlan County being dropped then you should be upset about them dropping behind both Warren Central AND Christian County. I view both of those teams as almost interchangeable at this point, and if Harlan Co. is going to drop behind one, I think they should drop behind both.

I don't know anything about the out of state teams on Harlan County's schedule beyond the fact that they have a combined record of 1-6. The Massey Ratings aren't much to go off of, but each rate Trousdale County well higher than Morristown. Higher than Bearden as well, a team that Morristown lost to. Gate City isn't well rated in Virginia as well. Comparing in-state, is there any question that Franklin-Simpson, Meade County, and Fort Campbell are better than Paul Laurence Dunbar? Exactly what makes you think that schedule is not tougher?
#13
Dragonsdad,

HARLAN COUNTY SCHEDULE
Morristown-Hamblen East, TN is 1-3
Paul Laurence Dunbar is 0-3
Gate City is 0-3

WARREN CENTRAL SCHEDULE
Trousdale County is 3-1 (only loss is Warren Central)
Franklin-Simpson is 3-1 (only loss is Warren Central)
Fort Campbell is 2-2 (also lost to Clarksville TN which is currently 2-2)
Meade County is 2-2 (also lost to unbeaten 5-A No. 2 John Hardin)

MasseyRatings.com, which takes into account EVERY school, says Warren Central has played the 24th toughest schedule in the state. Harlan County's schedule is 79th.

http://www.highschoolsports.net/Massey/s...11/9999/1/

FWIW, I'm not from Warren Central. Not in same district, region or time zone. I'm 50 minutes away on a good day.

Irregardless of it being 1A only poll, they STILL have done nothing to get 3 votes. I'm sorry, but that is the way it is. Heck, Phelps deserves more votes than Paintsville right now.

The Harlan County schedule issue is a dead horse that has been beaten to a pulp...nothing left but a small greasy spot on the ground it's been beat so much. I say let's just see how it all pans out in the end. Coach tried his best, got the games he could get people to agree to. There is nothing that can be done about it. Let it rest people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PHSForever,

Wouldn't get too caught up in "3 votes".

That does NOT mean three "ballots" or three "voters".

3 votes can mean

- Three people voted them 10th (out of 40+, about 20 of which are horrible)
- One person voted them ninth and one voted 10th
- One person voted them eighth (worth two points)

The number of voters is on there.
What papers/stations the voters are from is on there.

And you take umbrage with an "others receiving votes" in the smallest/weakest class?

Really?

You guys are giving the AP way too much credit. I doubt very seriously that they know who HC has played. VERY SERIOUSLY. There are no major media sources within 2.5 hours of HC. AP voters vote on name recognition first and then by record. I promise you the newspapers here know nothing about Bowling Green, Warren Central, and CC, just as, I am sure WKY media outlets know nothing about HC.

No, I am just amazed that they even received votes, period. That is all. It shows that very few of those pollsters even know their football, is all. As for classifying 1A as the smallest/weakest class, I only agree with the "smallest" portion of your statement. I guarantee you Beechwood, Mayfield, Hazard et al could make a serious run at some upper class teams, even beating them in some cases.

This is the reason I was so against us going to 6 classes. It let EVERYBODY in, basically, for the playoffs, watered down the competition, and basically gives 1A the finger in people's eyes. It wasn't really all that long ago Pikeville was stomping Henry Clay, Prestonsburg, Lawrence County, and Hazard was thumping Letcher Central, Clay County, Corbin, etc. 1A football is very good state-wide, not just in the mountains. And frankly, as a football purist, I HATE seeing silly "hometown paper votes" like Paintsville's. I know it probably wasn't a hometown paper vote, but you get my meaning.

I'm sure that, since Trinity has not played any in-state games, they used it as an excuse to leave the Shamrocks out of the poll. Still, I would agree that, regardless of the two losses, St. Xavier is the second best Class 6-A team in the state.

PHSForever,

Sixteen of the 19 voters -- more than 84 percent -- did NOT vote for Paintsville. And that assumes that Paintsville was given a 10th-place vote on three ballots. The percentage of voters who did NOT vote for Paintsville could be closer to 89.47 percent or 94.73 percent (if one person gave Paintsville an eighth-place vote).

With numbers that strong, I don't agree "that very FEW of those pollsters even know their football."

You're letting a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.

I'd make a bigger stink that two people gave St. X first-place votes than perhaps three people (or two people or just one person) using throw-away votes on Paintsville. It's not like it changed the top 10.

FWIW, below is the latest BluegrassPreps.com 1-A top 10. Same top 10 teams, including four teams ranked in the same spot.

I was talking about all polls/votes, not just 1A. Granted, I see your point, but I still disagree. Oh well, that's the fun of polls. Go ahead and put up your calculator, it's nothing to get in a lather about, even from my perspective. I'm just amazed anyone cast ANY votes for PAintsville, no matter the position, is all I am saying.
