Name what you think gives a kid playing time over you.
#1
Should rich kids have advantages on your team? Some kids says so. My question is can you take the kid who you say play because Daddy is in the right spot.

I have heard it said over and over that "I don't have the right name to play here." What do you think? Do you agree? and Why? DO NOT NAME TEAMS OR PLAYERS.
#2
attitude!
#3
I dont think rich kids play more, at least were i go to school, its just who has the most talent or who works the hardest in practice.
#4
Sounds like somebody needs to transfer. Just playing. Money does play a factor at some schools but if a kid shows he is much better without an attitude(quote from Mr. Rabbits) then I think a coach would play the better player regardless are social status.:big grin: :big grin: :big grin:

all of my coaches that i have played for said i had heart and thats what every coach wants but i played 5% of the season. I had a great attitude and i didnt suck but the other kids that didnt have heart and didnt care about winning or losing always played. I remember a team captain saying i dont care if we win or lose. We lost every game someone said that. All of my friends and I that sat on the bench just wanting to play 1 minute, 10 seconds at the most would make us happy. But it just never came. sorry if this reply was stupid it just eats at me everytime i think about it. I dont play basketball anymore because of 5 years of making the team working my butt off every practice and not playing. Some times things just arent your sports. Sorry about this reply i just needed to let it out

Are there better players sitting on the bench at Paintsville than Slone, Vanhoose, Pugh, etc???

Bill Mike Runyon has not won over 450 games by playing the plitical or money kids.

at some schools they don't beleive in playing freshman no matter if your the best
#13
The best kids should play.

No offense--but this thread sounds like sour grapes to me. If you think that you should be playing over a rich kid--why don't you ask you coach what you need to do to get on the floor. If he makes it obvious that you are not going to see the court--then ask him why you made the team in the first place.

Again--WEAK topic. I have met VERY FEW coaches who would play a kid because his parents have money over a kid that should be on the court. What a joke.

I know what you mean man i am right there with you. I just want to add on that sometimes abillities do play a factor in people being put on the bench, but i do think daddies do play a factor. good post man just let it out.

You guys have got to explain to me how "daddies" have any influence on a high school basketball coach.

Do they pay the coaches off? Do they give them other perks?

Seriously--if you guys are going to make pathetic claims like this--lets be a little more specific.

I thought we weren't supposed to get mean. :Sad04:

Lot's of coaches play there sons or daughters for example Coach Wireman and his daughter a freshman. But i am talking about money, social status, or even political pressure if possible. A lot of kids claim they don't get to play because of these factors.
#18
here in magoffin county some ppl may say your name matters but the one who are rich or has connections are usally the hardest working people on the team and other people that dont get playing time blame it on that and dont try hard cause they think they wont get 2 play
#19
It's a crying shame, but some kids do play over others because of political affiliation. I've seen it time an time again. If I was a coach and was asked to play a kid over another that did not deserve it, I would find me another place to coach, or step up and say #@** NO. Then I guess I would still be finding me another place to coach. Coaches who do this are gutless and are only worried about their job and could care less about the kids.
#20
Pike Co does play a lot of politics, but it doesn't happen as often as many state. For some it is merely an excuse or a reason to complain. The better players, the most talented, and the kids it take to win should be on the floor. Remeber you play to win not to satisfy. Saul Smith was a good point however.

sucking up to coaches

i know of one boy that didn't get no playin time what so ever last year and then after one of our games were over the boys dad went and talked to our coach and since that the boy got playin time last year and this year hes startin and theres 4 boys settin on the bench thats WAY better, work harder, and have better D. Daddies do have a big role on playin time.

I tell you what I have seen. A large group of Never was's and What if's. Most of what i have read here is a lot of sour grapes by people who didn't have the heart, soul, or desire to go that extra step to work hard, they had rather play in deserted gyms and parking lots saying if I had kissed butt I would have been a "star" when in fact most are just black holes that suck up the light on ballteams.
Some play some practice and all get to cry to their friends about how they are treated.
Coach's make changes when they need to when they become impressed with the effort made in practice begins to pay off during the game , unfortuantly most dont see it or appreciate it becasue they either QUIT or are finally told to quit wasting everyones time.

Do I agree with all the moves coachs make no but when I played I went to practice kept my mouth shut and busted my ass to improve and make my "Team"' better and that should be everyone goal!!
#26
Man you dont''t post often enough
We need more member like you GCP
