Do these 2 teams know each other well, or what ??
offense
Prestonsburg - will use the jet and short passes until Belfry's safeties begin leaning forward, then go deep on an out-and-up or in-and-up.
Belfry - will pound the first man through until P-burg's safeties start cheating up, then run wide or pass deep down the middle.
defense
Prestonsburg - will cover man-to-man and stack the LOS.
Belfry - will play 2-deep zone and play gap-assignment up front.
Prestonsburg will have major problems if its defensive line gets manhandled and gives up 4-5 yds. on the base dive. Belfry will have big problems if its LB's are outrun to the corner. Either of these opens the door to big plays from the respective offenses.

Belfry's Zone should stop some of the deep stuff prestonsburg loves, but it will be vulnerable to short slant routes and what-not idk if P-Burg has the receivers to run routes under the zone but if they do then they could very well use that to negate belfry's run defense as they would have to start dropping linebackers into coverage.
And running Single coverage will enable P-Burg to press receivers and throw off timing on any of befry's deep routes. If P-burg can stand strong against the run P-Burg could win this. In a match up of defenses Prestonsburg has the advantage.

Your post is a joke. WHY would you want to ruin a great forum of great football talk by posting something so stupid? BUT, just for your information... Belfry does NOT have to recruit anyone. People know the history of the program at Belfry and many who are not there would give their eye teeth to be able to transfer and play. Sorry if you can't accept that but it's just how it is!

What recruiting are you talking about? If you have some evidence of recruiting then please share it here and then call the KHSAA and report it so they can investigate it.

No reason to make an issue of that... Goodness knows that is one VERY dead horse. Belfry is on the Kentucky border with WV, so getting kids from across the Tug is a function of geography. If the best-run football program locally were in WV, the better players from northern Pike Co. would be going out of state.
Does Belfry owe some of its football success to WV born/bred kids ? Sure.
Is Belfry's geographic location an advantage for their football program ? Undeniably.
Is the advantage unfair ? Fair vs. unfair is completely subjective.
Is this advantage illegal? Most certainly NOT.
Personally, I regard their advantage to that of a taller boxer (with longer reach).

I wouldn't rely on what everyone else hears. If everyone else says you are an asshole, I wouldn't believe it and I surely wouldn't repeat it.
So what do you have? Let's hear the specifics. What do you have to back up your claims?

Glad you have some sense about this One1joe. Nothing burns me more than statements that have no basis. There is not a successful program around anywhere that has not benefited from transfers or kids who just choose to go to that school. Sometimes tuition is required, but it is all legal. Without naming his name, I talked to one of the Belfry assistants at the regional baseball tournament and we talked about this year's team and a lot of stuff. He said, we didn't even know who David Jones was(obviously the best of the "border" transfers to play at BHS), and we didn't care. But once he showed an interest in coming to BHS, we were not going to turn him down. The moderators just need to nip in the bud this type of silly accusations unless there is some hard evidence of any such thing. BTW. Pirates by two scores Friday if they hang on to the football!!!

What "truth" are you speaking of. I've been free sense the day I was born, I don't need you nor anyone else to offer freedom to me.:eyeroll: You have done nothing but ramble on and make accusations. As far as I know, Belfry has never been in any trouble with the khsaa for a "recruiting" violation. If you have proof of it, by all means report it. But don't be jealous of Belfry's geographcal location. If parents in the area chose for their kids to go there and get a good education and play extracurricular activities that is their choice. I try to stay clear of these threads and enjoy watching football and also enjoy when all the area teams do well, but fans like you make it hard on me to root for your team.

The border advantage will be gone after Mengo Central gets up and running.
09-07-2011, 09:31 PM
The only reason someone would want to go to Mingo Central over Belfry is because they really don't care about winning and they don't care to settle for second best.
09-07-2011, 09:56 PM
I don't think its recruiting. I don't think they have a need to recruit. The fact is that people will decide to live in the area with the better schools and sports. If someone is working in that area and they had Tug Valley, Williamson, Matewan or Belfry area to choose to live in and they are a football fan they are going to live in Belfry. Or at least send their kids there. Just like the fact that I am from Martin County but I am not going to send my kids there due to the academic issues in the school. So I moved.

What does Mingo Central have to do with it, if anything Mingo Central could more than lilkely send more kids Belfry's way. With the closing of Williamson High School, those kids now have to ride the bus to Mingo Central, which is a 35-40 min trip by car, let alone by bus. If you live in Williamson, 5 min from Belfry High School, then you would more than likely send your child there opposed to having them being on a bus for a couple hours a day. Belfry has kids from WV who are there for proximity and not for athletics at all.
Go Pirates!

Demonstrating excellence in any endeavor attracts!
Now, on to the match-up between two great traditions, Belfry has a slight edge, but never count out Prestonsburg. Remember, they are playing at home and are always extremely tough there.

Please, enough of this recruiting shit. Belfry's geographic location is why they have & will get kids from WV.
Lets talk about the (IMO) game of the week with two local football powers standing toe to toe delivering blow after blow. I look forward to this game every year they play. I judge our team on how they perform against Belfry since they are and always have been a local football power.
P'burgs run defense this year is the best i have seen in the last several years. This bolds well for P'burg against Belfry's smash mouth football style. If the corners can keep the outside runs turned in & prevent the big plays from Belfry we will be fine. We also need to create turnovers. If Belfry plays a turnover free game it will be tough for the Blackcats to come away with a W. Our Defense is geared to prevent the big play & create turnovers. We will load the box on Belfry & man up on there receivers.
Our offense is more versatile than the last 2-3 years. We have several RB's this year capable of 6 everytime they touch the ball with a balance of speed (Anderson, Williams) & power (Collins). Not to mention all have good hands when we spread it out along with other young but quality WR's.
This game will be a slober knocker. Fans get there early it will be standing room only. Good luck to both teams on an injury free game.
HAIL BLACKCATS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just found out that this game will air live on WYMT and on their website.

Ironically, Belfry's pass defense is probably the best I've seen in a while, with the exception of one ball against Harrison I don't think the two teams have combined for 100 yards passing. Not sure though.

You know...I thought the same thing from what I have seen of Belfry this year. Another ironic twist is that Prestonsburg's run defense seems stouter this year than in the past few years.
Both teams are stronger this year defensively against the other team's offensive strength. That adds another dynamic element to this game.
Gonna be a great one...
