Devon Cox and Zach Hester are the premier backs. You are thinking of Devin Hale, last years starting quarterback.

Need i remind you Boyle fans Mason has only been calling the offense for the last 3 seasons, and since then we have relyed more on the run than the pass.I think anyone will agree with me that it's hard to run on any good defense when they're putting 8 and 9 men in the box on every play.after the first drive, running it up the gut on every play Highlands pretty much knew what was coming, and it made it easy to defend.

I did say it was a bit predictable. However, Mason has been there for the 7 titles, while he did not always call the offense, he is still a great offensive coordinator. Everyone learned from this game. Time to move on to the next team and get better. Boyle County and Highlands will play again this year.

Need I remind you that Mason is notorious for not showing too much to a team that we'll see again? Come on, Jack. The last 3 years we have played LexCath in the regular season that game is boring as crap. Run, run, throw. It isn't a secret what Mason was doing with the play calling. He does it every October against LexCath. Your lack of faith in a Coach who has called the plays for the Rebels who had been 43-2 in this time he has been callin the plays is baffling. Add in the fact he has a new line AND a new qb AND the fact that HE, not you, HE has seen this team every day since the dead period ended and I think he did what he felt we could do......AGAINST THE SECOND BEST TEAM IN THE STATE. We have played two teams perceived to be better than us since French took over and we lost to both of them for French's only two losses as a Rebel. Calm down and wait until we lose to a team like Mercer, Marion or Taylor County before you act like the sky is falling down. Losing to Highlands the way we lost in week 0 is nothing to lose sleep or bash the playcalling of a coach with 7......7 rings. He knows what he is doing. This isn't his first rodeo.

You're right. No need to hang the hat and call it a season. Highlands will see Boyle County again.

My frustration comes from having to defend a team and its coaches after losing to a team that played better than them on Friday. Tell your son what I told you. That Boyle isn't going to open up the playbook on a team they will likely see again later in the season. Tell him the LexCath game will be boring also. That's just the way it is. I can think of three plays off of the top of my head that we didn't run that I bet we run if we play Highlands again.
Also keep in mind that we will be running up the middle successfully against teams not named Highlands also as the year goes on. Will the play calling be complimented then?
Plus, if we can't do something simple like run up the middle on Highlands why would anything else work if we can't hold our blocks?

I think coach Mason has done a fine job overall since he's taken over the offense, but his play calling was more than predictable friday night.Highlands knew what was coming on evey play.even the best coaches can have bad games, and friday was not his best, but all that being said i think he'll do a fine job with this team the rest of the season.i do have faith in our staff.some of you guys totally overreacted to my earlier post.

I'll tell my 9 year old the truth, boring or not sure if you can run the ball up the gut on every play, and it works thats fine but if not then you need to do something that does.I'm not stupid i know how good Highlands is this year, and i knew it would be a hard game to win.sure we have a young line and QB,but our young QB also had several dropped passes by our veteran recievers.you win as a team you lose as a team.in my opinion we were not prepared for the Highlands game we didnt execute on offense or defense.I know Mason keeps his playbook close to the vest with teams he's likely gonna play again later in the season.I'm sure he got this from Chuck Smith, and thats a good thing.Chuck was notorious for not opening up the playbook the first time around, and yes i know pardue was the offensive coordinator, but it was Chuck who wanted to play it close to the vest.after all it's the coaches job to make sure a team is prepared, and that they execute the game plan.in closing you're not the only one on this site who knows football.i played the game.and i love the game.and my Rebels.so do us both a favor don't take it up on you're self to correct me or try to explain the game to me from now on.since we're both Boyle fans we should try to get along instead of arguing with each other.

I agree. We shouldn't be arguing. Been two frustrating days listening to all the negativity from Boyle fans and Highlands fans for losing a game we were expected to lose. I apologize. If it helps I have only argued with those that I expect to know better.:Thumbs:

If Highlands is so good this year then that shows how bad every one else is because trinty put a butt spanking on them in there schrimmage.Dont tell me it was just a schrimmage because on another site highland fans was saying this would help or hurt there national ranking. Is trinty just that good and highlands is just that much better than every one else.

Highlands is good, but they're beatable Boyle could have played better in that game.not saying we would have won if we had played better, but i think if we get another shot at them come november we'll give 'em a run for thier money.to answer your queston yes i think Trinity probably is that good.

Yeah big guy, Trinity really is that good. Believe that.

And Highlands is beatable. I agree with that also.

I'll also add that while Highlands may not look it they are more athletic at all positions than most of the teams they will face. They are very well coached and have solid fundamentals. They are definitely beatable and I look forward to playing them again when Boyle County is seasoned. After these first four games we should be ready for 99% of the state.

Hi new member here long time reader. With that said I'll go right to it. Both Boyle and Highlands are great programs this was week zero anything could happen and it did more than enough time to correct it. Yeah it blows when you lose. I know my boy didn't like when we lost to Ryle last year but it happen. Sometimes you win so much you don't know how to lose. (boyle, higlands) and you can learn a lot in how you take that lost. A good friend of mine son plays for Ryle, said how huge a win it was for the school. And early in the season we played in week two if they (Ryle) doesn't turn the ballover or was forced to punt it would have been a different game. Thats a 14 point swing in our favor.
Getting back to last week game thats what happen with boyle. Great first drive, runing the ball, passing it. It was a great drive. if hester holds onto that int and we don't run one back. I saw a few dropped balls on both teams, some hurt more than others but i would rather see it now and not later when it really counts win and keep playing (playoff).
I don't know anything about the team you play next so i cant say who will win
but i will say your teams turnover issue will be one or none at all that much i believe

I have heard in some circles that Trinity, dominated by it's Jr. Class, next year might be fielding what many believe to be the best high school football team to ever play in Ky. Which means this years team should also be considered to be very, very good. Very Good !!!

They had at least 11 sophomores that STARTED last year, which is unheard of, especially with the talent pool at Trinity, so yeah, next year they will be scary. I thought they dominated the Highlands scrimmage worse than the score. It was 24-0 at half, and could've been 31-0 had Trinity not thrown an INT in the end zone on their first possession. I think Highlands only had one first down in the first half. That is not to take anything from HHS because Trinity is big and fast and probably have the best team I have ever seen play. They have several kids who will be D1 prospects next year, and according to their AD who has been affiliated with the school for 20+ years, could have the best team next year in Ky high school history.

I too was there but also let me say, highlands was with out two starting lineman in that game. Does that mean they win, no but it would of helped.
It was 38-0 in the 3rd before we scored. From what I saw Trinity def was the same other than there down linemen thats when we got those late TDs
It didn't look starter at that point. Also this class played us as sophomore they won 49-42 and we had to come back to scores just to come with in one.
They were good then and they are that much better now.
Be nice to see them put the mercy rule on a few boys from Ohio they play.

Then look for history to repeat itself when most of the starter are back for their Senior year.

How is the concession food at your place? You do anything special?
Thanks

There's a place across the highway(127) from Rebel stadium called Mallards. We eat there alot, it's a mix of sports bar/sit down style food. My wife and daughters always get the open faced bbq sandwich and i rotate from pizza to wings to the 1/4lb chili dog and sometimes a steak. Plus they have like 30 tv's going so there's always some kind of sports to watch. It's next door to the cinemas and is locally owned so that always helps in my book. There is also Applebees and Ocharleys and numorous fast food places just down the road.
Have a safe trip!
