Many Rockcastle fans are calling for an 8-2, 9-1, some even say 10-0 regular season. HOWEVER, everyone needs to keep in mind that OVERALL the schedule is much easier than in recent years. Few, if any, automatic victories but no Bell County or Boyle County and Whitley County and Pulaski County will not be as good (yes, Rockcastle played BOTH Bell and Boyle 2 seasons ago!)
I do think they will be better than last season, how can you not? Who are their 8 losses going to be to? They lost 7 games, so to be worse they have to lose 8. It is hard to defend Rock without giving bulletin board material but there is a part of me that thinks Rockcastle would have had a good game with Perry Central LAST season.
I like to think of Rockcastle like the St. Louis Rams or the Detroit Lions. They didn't add much, if I remember correctly, but who doesn't think they will be better with another year for their young players to grow and learn? In the NFL you never know what is going to happen, but still.
I only see 3-4 games on the schedule that Rockcastle will seriously have to worry about: Sheldon Clark and Knox Central, and Perry Central and Frankfort (Certainly are not as good as the two mentioned before but have elements of their game or strategies that can present a serious problem)
I have talked with RockSolid69 and told him over the phone that I think Rock wins 7 regular season games. It is a difficult thing for a team to learn how to win again. The seniors on this team have never won more than 8 games (If I remember correctly), however they have been in the stands or had brothers that have been state-runner-ups or State Semi-finalists in the past 5 years. So the winning tradition at Rock is still there. Plus when they first saw the schedules you know they had to think to themselves, "Bell and Boyle are gone, why can't we have a legitimate shot to beat every team on this list?"
Where so many of the Rock fans get the 8-2, 9-1, 10-0 ideas in their heads is that there is not a single team on the schedule that Rockcastle does not have a good chance to beat. I, for one, do NOT think they will go undefeated, that takes an incredibly special team to do so. But I would be lying if I didn't think they had a serious chance to beat everyone on the schedule.
Here is the schedule, tell me what team they have NO CHANCE to beat:
Aug 20, 11 Sheldon Clark at Harrison County 5:45 PM
Aug 26, 11 Frankfort away 7:30 PM
Sep 2, 11 Whitley County home 7:30 PM
Sep 9, 11 Estill County away 7:30 PM
Sep 16, 11 Pulaski County home 7:30 PM
Sep 23, 11 Perry County Central away 7:30 PM
Sep 30, 11 Russell County home 7:30 PM
Oct 14, 11 Knox Central away 7:30 PM
Oct 21, 11 Clay County home 7:30 PM
Oct 28, 11 Montgomery County away 7:30 PM

K-to the-N- o-X....
No chance of beating Knox Central.
I think they'll stuggle against Perry Central and Pulaski.
Clay and Whitley will be interesting.
Rest of the schedule, cupcaked.

I hope that most of the Rockcastle players and fans keep looking to this game. It might be a distraction and they mght look over Sheldon Clark.

Really? No chance against Knox Central? Last years game was close until the very end and was still a 20 point win. The season before that it was one of the closest games I have seen. It came down to a failed 2-point conversion in overtime.
Remember that it was a 20 point game (that was closer than score indicated) and it was Rock's WORST TEAM IN 20+ YEARS! I will buy that Knox Central will be the favorite, as they are the favorite to win the district, but Rock has a good chance.

Rock has no chance. Knox will have a field day against them. LWC, I love my team too but get real.
Rock will lose against 3 games and that is with a weak schedule.

No chance of overlooked Sheldon Clark. We jab with the PCC fans because they are fun to jab with.
Rock and Sheldon Clark have had some legendary battles including 1 point playoff wins! Rock respects the boys from Inez too much to overlook them.

Why is it unrealistic to think that Rock has a chance? In their worst season in 20 years it was a 3 score game at the end with Knox scoring late to make it that way.
I am not putting Knox Central down. They lost 3 games last year, two to Bell County and a 1 point loss to Johnson Central. They were honestly the 3rd or 4th best team in 4A last season.
However, to say that Rock has no chance is ludicrous! We are not talking about a guaranteed win, we are talking about a chance. Come on man! lol

Would your opinion be swayed if they beat Sheldon Clark tomorrow?

I'm steering clear of a PCC/Rock avatar bet.

LWC Wrote:Iceboxx, while I do not agree with your prediction, the passing game is what worries me. Rockcastle was flat out awful against the pass the last two seasons. GREAT Passing teams have ALWAYS been the downfall for Rock.
I truly believe that if the CB's are any better than last season (I believe all but one player in the secondary was either a freshman or sophomore) they will be okay. All the boys look stronger and hopefully with the pressure that they can put on the QB, Huff will not have time to get a 2nd or 3rd check-down.
That is the key to the game. As has been proven, nobody can completely stop Rowe. Bell and Boyle slowed him a little, but he still gained positive yards and those might have been 2 of the 3 best teams in 4A last season. So all the talk of Robinson shutting him down is void. So the game will come down to how well Huff can do. A game like this also makes Rock miss John Saylor the fullback.
Perry is certainly a team that worries me because of their scheme. Last season Danville had a field day against Rock and all they were doing was 10-15 yard lob passes. I will NEVER forget that game. Had to be the worst defensive coaching I have ever seen. GOT to be better this season.
No one defensive player is going to shut down a great RB. Robinson will slow him down though and get his 15+ tackles and a monster hit or two.

We've missed you as well. When is the last time Knott won a football game? (Yeah, I know, I'm off topic

I think we should start betting post counts lol.
That would be awesome. instead of avatar bets i think the mods should let posters bet there post away. I know they can easily change them as they have before so why not start betting post lol.
Youll have some on here that go bankrup the first week and wont even have a 1000 post. Stardust has a lot of bank to play with, he would be tough. However someone like me would bet a 1000 and lose it all in one game.
I think that would be a lot of fun.

Future bulletin board material?
I do not like to compare games to equate to a potential win/loss, but I will be watching the Prestonsburg-Sheldon Clark game. If Sheldon Clark wins, we will revisit this particular post.........
