48 hours until kickoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just watched Boyles State game from last year and I have to say I do not feel as nervous about Fridays game. Boyles line is much bigger than Highlands, but Highlands will be faster and I believe will have success running around the ends which is their forte. I think the biggest weakness I saw on Boyles D was the secondary and mainly on long passing game. The long pass is Highlands main Offense (throw very few passes under15 yards and most are over 20), and will run only if have to or if they find a huge weakness on the D. Sheehan (WR) is not tall, but our taller WR's could have a big night out jumping shorter DB's for Boyle (Collingsworth might have a break out game!). I do not know who all Boyle lost to graduation, but will really miss Dawson. Also read Mattingly will probably not play and a few others are banged up. Hope they all are ok come game time. There was very little passing game by Boyle, is this the norm? If so that plays into Highlands hands, as their pass defense has been weaker than the run defense. I think Boyle running backs are going to see alot of Devon Bruns Friday night ( the guy is playing great and hear his own players are tired of getting beat up by him in practice). I still have questions on Highlands Kicking game and special teams, and curious to see how the O-line does. However, being the first game of the year, you never know what to expect. You can expect both teams to come out a little rusty. Highlands has come out of the gate slow the past 2 years, and could give early momentum to Boyle with silly pentalties and/or turnovers. I am just excited to have football starting back up and glad to see Highlands start the year off in a game featuring the #1and2 teams in 4A. It should be a fun and exciting game.

Who cares about the '04 season. The games were played, so we had as much of a chance to win as Highlands. I'll never count a forfeit as a win in my book. Now, let's turn our attention back to this years game.
I'm still not as confident as I want to be. I hope we keep the game close and give ourselves a chance to win at the end. That's all you can hope for in a game of 2 state powers in the first game of the season. I HOPE it's as good as advertised! See y'all Friday night!!!

SportzAnimal Wrote:@sstack We lost our entire O-line. That's why, IMHO, we'll take our lumps at the beginning of the season. Once they gain some experience, hopefully, we can be better.
Entire O-Line PLUS Mr. Football, who was our leading tackler AND lead us in interceptions. In fact, we lost 5 out of our top 6 leading tackers. Add to that we lost our starting QB, and our 2nd leading rusher (2nd only by 49 yds) and 2010 Championship Game MVP. No doubt we have some very good skill players returning, but when you look at what we lost, playing Highlands the first game of the season is a tall order. We can call it 'reloading' if we want, but this is as big of a rebuilding year as we've had in a long time.

(I know some additional legal wranglings have taken place since, so maybe those were overturned or something. Not really interested enough in that whole debacle to pay attention).
I was just being a smart aleck and Charlie called me on it. It was all in fun.
I expect HHS to win because of the difference in what each team returns. It doesn't mean though that if they meet up again, Boyle might pull it out.

Boyle County's line is a weakness this season from what I have heard. Has Highlands had anyone injured in practices this summer? Boyle has had a couple.

injured line?, poor kicking game, and home field advantage spell trouble for the Birds. If they win by a td, it will be a miracle.

I think you are very perceptive except for the bolded. One of the things Boyle often does well is take away the run.
If you watched the State Title game from last year the one thing ACS did well coming into the game was have speed and ran the ball well. Boyle gave up only 87 yards to a rushing team that averaged 359 yards per game.
The week before Boyle held a Bell squad to 78 yards on the ground vs. their 306 a game average.

On the eve of the game I stand by my prediction made weeks ago for a 3 point Boyle win. I still think we will see a 3-3-5 defense with Thielemann at the nose. We will give up 130-150 on the ground, but rush 3, drop 7 + 1 spy will shut down the long ball and the QB draw. This will be the key to a victory. If we go base 4-3 or 4-4 Towles will throw for 400+ and a rout. See everyone early tomorrow evening!

Who is injured for Boyle other than Mattingly? I haven't heard of or seen anything saying there were more injuries. I did hear that Sheehan and Collingsworth didn't play last Friday but will tomorrow and I heard Hghlands had 3 O-linemen banged up last week as well.

I do not recall, but since the State Title game was put out of Christian County's reach early and ended with a running clock and a final score of 50-0, I very seriously doubt any player for the Bluebirds would have been kicked out.
Question back: Were any of the Rebels kicked out of last year's title game, it was a much closer game at 21-14?

ACS had big "heavy" lineman and ran mostly between the tackles. Highlands has lean linemen (we hear all the time from other teams "can't believe how small you guys are") and their O is geared to run around the ends. They run alot of counter plays and pitches to the outside. Boyle did look good with stopping the runs up the middle.

Pick your poison, Drop 7 and with Highlands speed, I see big rushing game.

Can not remember the last HHS player to be thrown out of a game. HHS coaching staff does not put up with fighting. Respecting the coaching staff is part of having a winning program.Give it all you got on each play and get back to the huddle.

Other than mattingly, it was said "several" players were nicked up. One was TE Mason with a thumb injury. I would expect them all to play in this game except Mattingly. Not sure how HHS linemen are doing, but expect all WR's to be playing.

No none of the Boyle players were ejected from the title game.the only reason i asked was that i heard a couple guys talking at the store, and one of said they had read in the louisville paper that one of the Highlands players was ejected in the title game and would have to set out of the Boyle game,i didn't catch any names so i thought i would ask.Robbie Mattingly will be the only Boyle player out tomarrow night.he tore a ligament in his knee lifting weights, and had minor surgery he should be back by the second or third game of the season.

They might have been talking about Dixie's QB Pike being kicked out of the playoff game against Highlands. He is sitting out Fridays game against NCC.

Skippers will play it very close to the vest, ala Ryle Game-1. Birds' won't see the wheels coming off, (even with backups in play). Towles will kick, pass and run... to bring home the victory.

I do not think home field is much of an advantage with teams like Boyle, Highlands, X, And Trinity. These teams go on the road with every thought being that they are going to win. Do not know about Boyle's schedule the last couple of years, but HHS has done alot of travel around the state and in OH. In fact, I think these teams get off on going into others "home" and knocking them off. I know Highlands players have no thoughts of Boyle beating them, and I would bet Boyle players feel the same about their team. I think the biggest factor in this game is going to be first game rustiness and who is more ready for the first game of the year.

Boyle has been on the road at Bell, Corbin, Christian County, and Lex Cath among others in the last couple of years.:Thumbs:
I hope it's a close game and both teams come out injury free. With all that the Birds return they are without a doubt the favorite. If Boyle can play well and have a chance that is all one can ask for IMO at this point. Good luck to both squads.

You can add all the Lexington schools to that list too, Hatz. :eye roll:
But anyway, this game tonight will probably be the best game in the state tonight. Magical things happen in Rebel Stadium. It's been 4 years (The Last year Pardue was the head coach at Boyle) since they've lost at home in the Regular season and if anyone can correct me I believe it's been since 1994 they've lost at home in the Playoff's? (Bourbon County the year they made the title run I believe?) I expect great things from both teams, and I can't wait for a great football game. But i'll have to pick my Rebels in a close one.

As far as I know Mattingly is the only person I am aware of that will be out with an injury.
