Granted, that was a scrimmage and not a game, but both teams were knocking heads like it was for real. On the other side of the ball, I would also hope our defense doesn't give up 38 pts. If you throw out the 39 that Lone Oak scored in the double OT championship game in 09, a Boyle team hasn't given up that many pts (38) since the 07 season. I look for a much lower scoring game from both teams.
I agree with you. If Boyle is able to score 30 points, it's because they have forced and converted turnovers into TD's. I just don't see Boyle being able to march on the Birds D! If Boyle scores 30, they WIN! But I don't see that happening.

I think this is a down year for Boyle and Highlands is catching Boyle at a pretty vulnerable time. Next year, who knows the shoe may be on the other foot. I can assure you there is no disrespect for the Boyle program.
Well thank you for your respect, but i dont buy into cycles. programs like Boyle, and Highlands reload they don't rebuild.thats why they're two of the top programs in the state year in and year out.in most states you have a hand full of programs that are the elite programs in the state they are just on another level than the rest of the schools they compete against.i think thats where Boyle, and Highlands are at.

I was told this morning that they will be adding seating to the visitors side of the field today, and tomarrow.

Keep your fingers crossed on that... We definitely need it this week for Highlands AND next week for our bowl game.

Sure they reload, but very, very few teams reload to the same lofty levels they might have had in prior years. And that's what we are talking about here. In a couple of years when Trinity's excellent Junior class graduates, Trinity will still be Trinity and they will reload but I seriously doubt that they will be a good as they are this year and likely will be next year. That type of talent just doesn't come around every year at any school.
Some people (including some Highlands people) think that just because their team was very good last year, they automatically will be as good (or better) this year. That isn't always the case. Personally, I think at this point some Highlands folks are over estimating how good we are AT THIS POINT in the seaspm. They remember the 09 season and the fact that no Ky team really challenged us. They remember us blowing out Christian County in the state game last year. But they forget beating an average CovCath team by only a touchdown last year; they forget being a dropped pass in the endzone from being beaten by Johnson Central last year; they forget being on the ropes with Dixie last year in the playoffs. In spite of the impressive championship win, Highlands very easily could have not made the trip to BG last year. Sometimes we, and I'm sure sometimes some Boyle fans, can get too wrapped up in our past success and become convinced by emotion that the team we support is better than logic would demand. Is that the case with Boyle or Highlands this year? We'll find out Friday, but I can't understand the illogical blow out predictions by fans of either team at this point.
There are cycles in talent at all schools. The highs and lows aren't as severe at the powerhouse programs, but they are there.

Thank you. I didn't mean to be critical of any optimistic Highlands or Boyle fans. It's human nature to get carried away about the team a fan follows, particularly teams that have had a lot of past success.
I remember after the Birds won the championships in 98,99 and 00. Some folks in Ft. Thomas thought that winning it again in 01 was going to be easy and a foregone conclusion. Lots of good players on that 01 team that were just as committed and worked just as hard on those on the prior three teams and the coaches were pretty much the same. But to think that the talent level was automatically just going to be as good wasn't logical.
Plus we are talking about teenage kids largely determining the outcome of games. In 01 Highlands destroyed CovCath in the regular season. Yet in the playoffs, CovCath beat Highlands. I have to think the mentality of teenagers played a big role in the turnaround of those two outcomes.
Both Boyle and Highlands reload this year. But what we don't know is whether they will reload to a level better than last year, or more importantly to the issue, which team will reload to a level higher than the other team does. Friday's game should be interesting and fun.
Hope both teams come out of it healthy.

I will second that; very classy, knowledgeable poster with very good insight as far as the game goes. The board needs more like him. We welcome you, Charlie22, back to Boyle Co this Friday.

One thing is for sure: this will be a very physical and hard-fought game. Both teams have been preparing for this game all summer, and they both desperately want to win it. Is it Friday yet???

So does whoever win this game lose the rematch in the playoffs (as so often happens)?
p.s. I agree with HHS being the 6 point favorites but would not be surprised to see either team win this game by any reasonable margin. First games are often difficult to predict even amongst some of the most followed teams out there.

If we look at History maybe not. Back in 2003 Boyle won the first meeting and went on to defeat Highlands again the State Championship. The following year Highlands won at home and went on to defeat Boyle again in the State Championship game.

The first game was forfeited - as were all of their regular season games. I believe the first 4 playoff games were forfeited as well. Therefore, they shouldn't have been playing in the finals.
(I know some additional legal wranglings have taken place since, so maybe those were overturned or something. Not really interested enough in that whole debacle to pay attention).

Just watched a youtube video on Highland's Offense and they look tough, Towles is the real deal. Reminds me a lot of the Breathitt style of offense of the mid-90's. Not sure of the defense though, could not find a video with that on it. Anyone know what kind of defense they run?
