I'd take JJ Jude over anyone.

I would put any of those players on my team.

What about Rowan County, Lawrence County or Ashland Blazer? At least one of those schools has a great player every year. They may not all have great ones every year, but each year at LEAST one of those schools has someone great.

Harlan Co. looked like they had the top eleven candidates on their defense last night against 3A preseason top ten'er Corbin. The score could've been 70 to 0. Seriously though, I think HC's Tucker Lewis could fit that bill. Because of an injury last season he's not got the stats but I guarantee the kid can play.

He backed out of a football scholly to play QB at Marshall to play basketball at Okl St. Hodge has been a really good player the last few years there along with Williamson.
Lawrence has a good bit of talent in their LBing/safety core. Tyler Combs is the big name at LC. He's already committed to play Oline at Marshall. QB Hayden Kiser will play on Sat's too somewhere.
Ashalnd has a slew of talent. They are led at QB by 3 or 4 year starter Sam Hunter. They have a lot of nice skill led by Wetsel+Withrow. Have a shifty little Jr too that can run.

I think it's a tossup between Jude and Davenport.

Chase Roark ....Middlesboro Qb

You can't forget about Joseph Jamerson either, he has over 2300 yards of offense and 29 touchdowns the past two seasons at Prestonsburg.

Since this list has grown and it seems to me, possibly, that we are looking for the best player or players that lead their teams, I areee with IntheZone, KP and Tim (Sheldon Clark) should be added to the list. JMO!

JJ Jude and Matt Robinson
Robinson is as good a defensive as I have seen in the mountain.

I know there always seems to be a big arguement as to whether Pulaski County schools are considered Mountain Schools but Southwestern's Alan Williams has to be one of the best Tight Ends in the Mountain Area! He has accrued 1091 receiving yards and 12 TDs in his career and with him being the main focus of their offense this year, I would look for him to match that amount in this season alone!
Also Alex Lange, Somerset's RB, would be another very good player player. He was able to rack up close to 1000 yds and 14 TDs while competing with Seniors Zack Bastin and Derrick Jackson last season out of the backfield!

Haven't seen the Warriors play in a couple years, but their big D-lineman Lewis might be one of the better prospects in the mountains (if you count SW).
For Somerset, what about their wide receiver? I don't remember his name, but he is number 8.

The Canady kid from Knox is getting looks from UK!

For some strange reason I was concentrating on backs, maybe age is catching up with me. I would think Taylor Chapman from Sheldon Clark definitely belongs on the list.

I think that I would add Will Thomas Collins RB and Josh FletcherWR Of Breathitt Co to that list. I don't think that they are the best but do deserve to be on the top mountain players.

Storm Wilson, him and Canady are the best in the mountains at WR IMO.

Yeah, Rob Lewis is deffinitely their best returning defensive player and is the only player on the team to score a defensive touchdown!
I don't know how I could have forgotten about number 8 for Somerset!! That would be Storm Wilson and he is there best returning player, he had roughly 800 receiving yards last year as well as 14 receiving touchdowns!

Davenport or Jude would get my vote. Toss up
08-13-2011, 01:24 AM
Id go with Jude hands down, I think the only thing Davenport has on Jude is speed
08-13-2011, 01:43 AM
Jude is the best all around high school football player that I have personally seen play in the mountains. I have never seen anybody play both offense and defense any harder, absorb as much contact on both sides of the line, and play as many minutes as Jude does. I don't think that there is a better conditioned player in the state.
You could make an argument for somebody else being a better offensive or defensive player than Jude but you will be hard pressed to make a case that there is another player who is both a better offensive and a better defensive player than Jude.
