I just wanted to share this with everyone because Puaski County's Kicker, Drew Patton, may very well be the best Kicker in the country!!
At the end of the 2010 high school football season, Pulaski County kicker Drew Patton was already the record holder in three statistical categories all-time for the Maroons.
However, that certainly didnât mean Patton was ready to rest upon his laurels from a season ago.
Patton â who will be a senior this fall at PC â has certainly stayed busy this summer participating in a number of kicking camps or kicking combines.
The crowned jewel and highlight of the summer for the Maroons ace kicker was being a part of the prestigious Chris Sailer Nike Kicking Camp back in July in Atlanta, Georgia.
That camp was by invitation only, and Patton, after arriving down at the camp, suddenly realized he was kicking with and against some of the top-flight kickers in the country.
That fact however was no problem for the Maroons number 33.
Not only did Patton hold his own at the camp, he was the Grand Champion at this top-flight event, finishing on top in the competition over every kicker there, which included the University of Alabamaâs signee for next year, as well as a kicker that just completed a year at Florida State University â not bad indeed.
The camp was a competition among the kickers that participated at the event, which included competition in areas such as accuracy as well as distance, and Patton, when all was said and done, was left standing above everybody.
âTo be perfectly honest, I prayed about the entire time that I was down at that camp,â stated Patton.
âI just went out and tried to relax, not get too nervous or too anxious,â added the Maroon kicker. âThat experience and winning the competition and being named Grand Champion at that camp actually gave me the motivation, drive, and the kick in the butt that I needed.â
Patton comes into the 2011 season as one of the top senior kickers in the state of Kentucky â already the holder of three PC kicking records for most PATâs in one season (64), most consecutive made PATâs (22 and counting), and most kicking points in a career (67).
While Pulaski Countyâs football team is getting ready to embark upon a 2011 season without the likes of All-Staters Zach Eastham and Alex Abner, head coach Johnny Hines says the one area in which he has absolutely no concerns whatsoever heading into the upcoming season is with his kicking game.
âDrew is just a tremendous kicker, first and foremost,â stated the PC head football coach.
âHe has worked really hard this summer on improving his distance on kickoffs, and I think that is what is going to help him more than anything this year,â added Hines. âAs far as accuracy on extra points and field goals, Drew is outstanding. The area he needed to improve upon was his distance on kickoffs, and he has really worked hard in improving in that area this summer, as well as with placing the ball in certain areas of the field on those kickoffs. He truly is one of the best kickers in this part of Kentucky. We expect a very big year from him, and we know that when we get the ball to a certain yard line, Iâm very much at ease knowing that with Drew, weâre going to score some points.â
Of course the Chris Sailer Nike Kicking Camp hasnât been Pattonâs lone stop along the way this summer on self-improvement.
The PC kicker also participated in Purdueâs Prokicker.com Camp, the University of Kentuckyâs One on One Kicking Camp, The Ray Guy/Dean Hood Kicking Camp at Eastern Kentucky University, the Prokicker.com Kicking Camp at EKU, as well as going to kicking combines at Western Kentucky University, Campbellsville University, and Lindsey Wilson College.
In short, thereâs not been much down time for Drew Patton this summer, but as the PC senior-to-be says, itâs been a summer that will pay dividends down the road this fall.
âPeople really donât realize how much is involved with kicking,â said Patton. âIt truly has developed into a sport of its own. Itâs more than just going out there on the field, sticking a ball on a tee, and kicking it.â
âThere are so many things involved with kicking â things like the various stretches you need to do to get ready, and the fact that you canât get too nervous when you go in there,â added Patton. âYou hear all the time about how kickers get picked on and stuff like that, but when you go in there at the end of the game to attempt a winning kick, all of a sudden you become âthe manâ.â
Thanks to what he was able to accomplish last year as a junior, and with the dedication and hard work that he has put in over the summer, on Friday nightâs this fall when the Maroons are in need of a big-time kick to win a game, Drew Patton will indeed be âthe manâ ready to propel his club to a win.

That's cool. hopefully UK picks up him or Zach Burgy-Vanhoose or both. I'd like to keep both of the Nationally acclaimed in state Kickers.

Is this kid rated higher than Burgy from Pikeville?

Wow, thats great. We seem to being a lot about kickers this year with Boyles kicker about to break his own records and the mentiond above. KY is reeling in some good kicking talent.
On a different subject do teams tend to go after soccer players when looking for a kicker? Ive always thought that they may make some great kickers.

I don't think that he is currently ranked higher because Drew has not been getting nuch national recognition. We will have to wait until this season is over to really compare them. It would be nice to see both wear the White and Blue, perhaps one could be the Kicker and the other the Punter!
