A buddy of mine and I had this discussion the other day, and I thought it might be a good time killer here on BGR until Week 0:

Of all the greatest coaches and players in the history of your school's football program, which family name do you think is most synonymous with (or emblematic of) its success?

Here are a few we came up with:

Corbin: Bird
Middlesboro: Williams or Fuson
Bell County: Collett
Bellevue: Sutkamp
Boyle County: Leffew
Covington Catholic: Schulte
Trinity: Gardner

Others?

I was going to say Brohm for Trinity. Greg, Jeff, and Brian, but there are a few families that could make a case.

What about Redman for Male?

Campbell County - Sauerbeck Matt (UK), Brian (Morehead State), Joe (MSJ) and the youngest starting as a Freshman at CCHS.

Newport Catholic - Mark (dad) & sons Sean (Union), Ben (Morehead St), Mark, Chris (EKU) and the youngest is a 7th grader

For Estill County, I would have to say Niece

And Newell is a good one for Somerset, but the first ones I thought of were Cain and Perkins.

Yep, Brohm is the name for Trinity . . . better than mine.

And of course, for Male it would be Redman, I think.

What about St. X? Glaser?

Interesting enough the Cain Brothers grew up in Cumberland. I know Ron Sr. played there...not sure about his brothers

Cumberland: Maggard (been a ton of them there)
Middlesboro: Roark (Ed, the old head coach is the one I associate with them the most)
Paintsville: Brugh. I don't think I need to say any more
Prestonsburg: DeRossett (player and coach)
Belfry: Haywood, with Roddy Smith a close second
Somerset: Cain

Yeah, I think they all played at Cumberland. Then as head coaches, Ron and John took their teams to a combined seven state finals games.

All four of John's were at Somerset, and Ron took Seneca twice, Cumberland once.

I would say Tamme would be right there.

Jacob, Seth and Grant come to my mind. Plus the Tamme name has been around Boyle athletics since the 70's.

In the 70's I would have said: Gilliam. Mike, Jay, Robert and Mark all were solid players for Boyle during that time.

Can any program just go to one family?

Harrodsburg would have been Parks and Yeasts.

It's tough to narrow to just one. :Thumbs:
