When it comes to that one huge win whether it was over a rival or in the playoffs, what is that one signature win that everyone talks about in your respective school?

Lawrence County's has to be the win over Breathitt County to end Breathitt's winning streak. What is your's????

IMO, the biggest win in Pike Central's history was 2 years ago when the team traveled all the way up to Mason County (who was highly favored to win Class 3A) and it was a hard-fought game but we ended up winning 26-23.

for me i think Bell's win in 1990 against Cov Cath. was probably a tipping point game for the program. while Bell lost to ashland the next week, that game gave the program a lot of confidence that they could compete at the state level. the next year Bell won it all but i think a lot of it had to do with the knowledge that the program could compete with the powerhouses in the state.

two games that come to mind is in 2001 when Rockcastle beat Covington Cath 17-14 to send them to the first state championship game. and then 2002 when Rockcastle beat Highlands 45-6 in the state semi finals. how many times has highlands been beat like that/

Tough question to answer.

I would say that if your team has won a state title, it would have to be the first one. So I will go with Boyle defeating Glasgow in the '99 AA title game and finishing 15-0. (starting the 47 game win streak)

But in reflection, Boyle beating Lex Cath 2 weeks before was really the State Title game. (for 2 years the only losses Lex Cath had were to Boyle)

Still further back you would have to say the 12-0 win over Danville in the AA playoffs of '96. The Rebels beat the Ads for the first time since '79 and then edged Madison Southern by one point before bowing to Breathitt 12-7 in the state semi-finals.

There were big wins over #1 teams in the 70's that stand out:

1976 win over Harrodsburg 21-14 when Pioneers were #1 in Class A.

1977 win over Danville 14-7 when the Ads were #1 in Class AAA going into the last week of the regular season when Boyle upset them.

Both wins and others vs. Henry Clay, Somerset, Bardstown among those years were highlights.

1. 2003 2A State Championship vs. E'town

Belfry's first state title after several runner-ups came by defeating Etown on 4th Down in OT. Etown had 3 future SEC starters: TE Zipp Duncan (UK), QB Chris Todd (Auburn), and DE Brandon Deaderick (Alabama). Deaderick now plays in the NFL.


2. 2004 2A State Championship vs. Owensboro Catholic

Perry Central has had no really notable 'big' wins. But some that stand out to me are (in no particular order):

1. Beating Letcher Central 33-32 in 2008 when Perry stopped LCC's 2pt conversion.
2. Edging Pburg 21-20 in 2007.
3. Beating Breathitt at home 37-14 in 2009.
4. Beating Hazard in the Black Gold Bowl 38-6 in 2002, Perry's 1st BGB win since 1998 and only second in the schools history to that point.

Hopefully after this season I can say Perry's 1st playoff win, but we will have to wait and see.

Also, what I remember most about the Highlands game was the shock on Highlands face. It was like they had just lost a family member. People were either sobbing or standing like statues.

Biggest win in LCC's short career has to be the game we played against Mercer Co, and Charlie Banks field goal beat the Titans to send the Cougars to the Regional title game.

Henry County beating Former head coach Billy Martin and one of the biggest rival North Oldham winning the first ever school playoff win back in 2007. Wildcats made it all the way to regionals final and capped off the schools winningest season at the time.

Lewis County over Lawrence County in 1993. The Dawgs were ranked in the top 10 in the state and was expected to roll over everyone on the schedule. Lewis County came into Louisa and beat the Dawgs on their home field I believe. It was Lawrence's only loss in the regular season and was what eventually propelled Lewis Co. to only their 4th playoff appearance in school history.

1987 Pikeville vs. Russelville Class A Title Game, the start of a great run and laid the foundation for the program on which to stand.

Cumberland over Beechwood in 82, 83, & 86 were all big wins, but Chapman's 95 yard kick off return in 83 with time expiring for the win has to be the biggest play of all time in Cumberland Sports, especially given that the game was at Beechwood. Covington Holy Cross

2006 vs. NewCath, regular season. Established Holy Cross as a legit small school power in NKY with NCC and Beechwood.

2010 vs. DeSales, playoffs. Finally got past round 2 against a team that ended their season the previous 2 seasons, both games coming down to the final drive

How can you single out one game as THE most important game for a team? For me it is a tie between the school's first win in 19?? and the last win in 2010 and all the games in between.

Every win is important, whether the team won by one point in OT or by 50 with the starters on the bench for the entire second half. It was important to the participants and their families.

Here at Mayfield I would have to say we have 9 games that would all equally qualify as the schools biggest win in history. A common link is that all 9 were the last game of that season

I think the 83 game has to be the biggest because it was there and a huge play was needed to win.

I think for Evarts it's the 1990 regional championship win over Pikeville. Russell had the two-point conversion for an 8-7 win that ended Pikeville's three-year reign as state champs.

For Cawood, it was probably the win over Belfry in the 1975 regional finals.

Harlan County's is probably the win over Pulaski County last year for a regional championship.

Harlan had a huge win over Middlesboro in 1996 (I think). Harlan beat Williamsburg in 1979 for its first district championship.

For Middlesboro, the first one that comes to my mind is their 1974 win at Boyd County in the first round of the Class AA playoffs. Boyd County was supposed to walk through the competition that year, and the Jackets upset them 28-14 in Catlettsburg.

Then the next week, MHS beat Lexington Henry Clay in the semi-finals, another huge win. The Jackets dressed 40 kids, and the Blue Devils had at least 100 players come out of that visiting locker room. Still don't know how they fit 'em all in there . . . maybe they dressed in shifts. I was only 10 at the time, but I still remember the pre-game prayer given over the PA system that night by a local Middlesboro preacher: in it, he retold the story of David and Goliath.

More recently, their home playoff win over Beechwood in '98 was a big hurdle, and then of course, the next week they beat Mayfield for the school's first state title.

No, the FG was made right before halftime.

Rock would have never made it to the games mentioned above if it weren't for the signature 1991 double OT win over Corbin in the 2nd round of the playoffs. That game put Rock on the map.

Jenkins High School my alma mater best year that I can remember was my junior year in high school in 93/94. We was district runners up to Pikeville and hosted our first playoff game since the 70's. Don't remember what the furthest we ever went. Anyone in Jenkins can post on here and let me know thanks..

This is more of Cov Cath's best win than biggest win?

The "Mud Bowl", Cov Cath's double overtime win @ Highlands in '97 reginal round. Cov Cath had lost the regular season Highlands game by a last second field goal miss @ Cov Cath.

I am a Highlands fan, but this was a mythilogical game.

Highlands up 21-0 at halftime, 'birds come back out storming down the field to like the 20.
Then Pfiefer hit Giibson out of the game and a sudden down pour started during the same play.

Cov Cath came back tied it 21-21 with seconds left. It goes into double overtime and they wanted it more. sloppiest field conditions ever. I think Jeremy Madden scored like 4 touchdowns for them. They went on to win state easily.
