Scholarships are reduced or free tuition. Isn't that what you have at all public schools. It costs money to educate children. At private schools that money is paid privately by those who attend the school, but at public schools it is paid through taxes. Are there any students at your school, Paintsville, that live out of district? If so, do they pay tuition to attend PHS? If not your school is doing exactly what you are accusing private schools of only with tax payer money.

As long as schools practice open enrollment, which I know is frequently occurring in the 15th, and has been for the last twenty-five plus years, there is no difference between private schools and public schools, except that private schools must explain to the KHSAA where the tuition comes from. Also if the tuition does not come from an immediate family member that student will not be eligible to participate in KHSAA sanctioned sports. To make the playing field level students who attend public schools out of the districts they live in should be forced to pay tuition, or the district they live in should release funds for that students tuition. Why should my tax dollars pay tuition for students from other communities?

Wesley High School will not be able to compete for a KHSAA title for at least 3 more years. They might travel and play some nice places but they can't play for a KHSAA TITLE, and you want that chance. Once you attend another school in some cases you will have to sit out a year. The incoming Freshman might be able to compete by their senior year. What I'm trying to say is before you lock yourself into a decision get all the information, email the KHSAA.org or call the number is on the site. This is not middle school you just can't move back and forth. Wesley might be a good school for future students but are willing to gamble with yours.(future that is)

Wesley will end up being good for all of the teams they play. Not downing any of the other teams but they will end up playing teams like Riverside, Piarist and many other Christian schools that are not very good. They will not be comparable to any of the teams around here no matter what they do. If Steven Goble or any of the other players that are playing there are doing that good the need to play for teams in the district so people will actually know who they are so they can get some recognition. If they win every game they play this year no one will know or care except for the parents of the few players that are playing there. They may play all over the US but it will be in empty gyms. I guess we will be better off though as long as they keep getting kids from besides Betsy Layne. It will at least give us an easier road to the district. GO BOBCATS!
