Jody Demling's Class of 2014 Rankings
#1
It’s still too early to tell many of the top kids.

But here’s a few names to remember, in order of the ones I’ve heard or seen that appear to be the top of the Class in 2014.

And the early indication is this class will be solid.

• Cole Ousley (photo), QB, Lone Oak: He made national headlines as a freshman when he was named to the MaxPreps All-American team. Ousley was one of two quarterbacks picked on the first-team after throwing for 3,372 yards and 34 touchdowns for the Purple Flash. He completed 227 of 349 passes on the season.

• Kelan Martin, TE, Ballard: He’s a standout in basketball but could also be a major star on the gridiron.

• Phillip Francis, LB, Central: The next in a long line of stars from Central? If his freshman season is any indication, Francis will be a good one.

• Drew Barker, QB, Conner: The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Barker was mainly a backup as a freshman but has already been hearing from a bunch of colleges.

• Reggie Bonnafon, QB, Trinity: Had 40 total TDs in seven freshman games.

• Justice Lewis, OL-DL, Newport: He’s a kid already with great size at 6-3, 245 pounds and already benches 275 and squats over 400.

• Matt Elam, OL, John Hardin: The potential is way up there. He’s 6-foot-4 and weighs 340 pounds and should become a force for his team.

• Lincoln Quick, LB, Bowling Green: The 6-foot-1, 196-pound Quick could quickly become a leader of the Purples defense.

• Blue Tisdale, WR/DB, Bowling Green: Another potential star from a class that has some quality at Bowling Green.

• Lyndon Rowe, RB, Jeffersontown: Another solid star in the Chargers’ fold.

I have a feeling Sani Warren of Belfry will be in the mix.

As a Freshman DB he played the last 8 games and recorded 6 INT's in those games including some very timely ones.

Aaron Elam and Mikey Callihan of Ashland and Mac Boggs of Raceland will be heard from as well.

Demling should've stopped writing after his first sentence.

Speculating toward the outcomes of 14-15 year-olds in three years . . . particularly in football . . . is idle speculation at best.

But parents do love to read their kids' names in print, and some coaches do love to promote their own.

It's a shame, but an inevitable sign of the times, I suppose.

When does his "Best of 2020" list come out?

AMEN! I wonder how many of these kids he seen, or does he just call buddies that are coaches and ask who you got this year?

Some promote kids that don't deserve it while over looking harder working better playing kids on their teams. One Coach I know does this every year, he promotes a couple of kids (deserving or not) and forgets about the rest of the team.

They have been rating freshmen forever, believe it or not college recruiters know about MOST (not all) players since they were freshmen they don't wait till a kid gets in 12th grade to see if they are any good, heck I was looking at NFL draft scout & they already have players ranked for 2015 draft , these players have not played one snap of college ball, but scouts start early evaluating talent .

There is buzz about Ousley. But remember - all but one of Lone Oak's regular season opponents in 2010 had six or more losses. The team that didn't - Green Co. - beat them. Lone Oak put up big numbers against some hapless teams.
