Great Coach, but Administration won't let him coach long. They must have total control.:HitWall::HitWall:

Will do nothing but water down an already mediocre 58th district! Unless, they can pull in players, which I' m sure they will try as a private school.

They have a great coach, who loves what he does and loves to travel. Good things are to come. Wish you guy's the best. :thanks:

Who is the coach? Are they having a varsity team this season or just JV again?

I think they are playing and I have heard of some of the players. The big question is are they going to be able to compete in district this year? I dont think they will be in the khsaa for awhile because many of the kids wouldnt be eligible which means many of the schools around here will not even play them. If so how are the players that are playing going to be eligible? I agree with the previous post. They will just try to get all of the kids from our public high schools and water the district down even more. I just hope all of the kids that are playing know how the system works and what they will and will not be able to do. The reason I am somewhat negative about this is the fact that I have seen it happen for the last several years at the middle school level. Ask any coach in Floyd county how many times the school has tried to openly recruit their players. Just my opinion if you agree with it or not it is ok by me.

THe coach is Jack Jarrell. Yesterday at the plex betsy Layne beat them by 1 and pburg beat them by 9. Stephen goble is the center 6'5 chance little is the power forward 6'4 between them in the bl game they had 26 Rebs they will have a solid team

Jack is a good guy. He and the team will do well.

didnt BL play back to back games?

As far as Wesley playing in the 58th district, I look for them to be included in one of the Pike County Districts. Doesn't one of them have only 3 schools in it? Last I heard- they aren't KHSAA compliant yet (must have grades 9-12). This may be changing this year, guess we'll have to wait and see.
Then we have the previously mentioned recruiting. Like someone said- ask any Floyd County Middle School coach and see what the have to say. Funny how kids tuition got paid and they were driven to and from school every day until basketball season was over. Then suddenly the free transportation ended. Now there's a good message to send to the young people. From other posts I've read and from the word around the county, there are already a few questionable transers in the works. Not sure how these families on fixed incomes are going to pay the tuition, but I guess "Coach" will figure something out.

Kay for example mom-can't work her back is hurt. But uncle John doe iis a doctor I'm sure he wouldNt care to pay for me to go to a better school. Grades wise. Point is not everyone in these kids are on a fixed income

Good luck on the season Jack.

Well one thing about Wesley is by being a PRIVATE school they can recruit and players will still be eligible. This is why a lot of people are saying private schools should have their own playoff and not compete with the public schools. If they do join KHSAA they will be in the 58th with all the other Floyd Co. schools
06-10-2011, 06:03 PM
If they are going to be in the khsaa then they would not be legally allowed to recruit. That was my point. For all of the supporters now that are rooting for their home teams, are you going to feel the same way about Wesley when they start to get "transfers" for their school that is coming from your school? It will happen. I want what is best for our kids. If they are going to be recruited and transfer there they need to understand that they will either not be playing within the KHSAA system which means our districts and regions or they will have to go through the "transfer" bylaws and conditions of the KHSAA which means they will have a very hard time getting eligible. Being a private school helps get around some things but it does not give you a free pass to do whatever you want. The kids playing really need to think about this before they make that type of commitment because once they do they will be stuck there and not be able to return to their home schools. What kid would want to play knowing that they cannot compete for a district or regional title?
06-11-2011, 10:11 AM
They can not recruit just because they are a private school. Go online and read the KHSAA handbook. Also, if and when they are assigned to a district for basketball, there will be several factors included in the decision by the KHSAA.

Totally agree. I hope that these boys that are going to leave the schools that they attend now totally understand the situation. If the school gets in the KHSAA then many players will have a hard time getting eligible. If not, which I think that it would be hard for them to get in this year, then the players can't compete for district, regional or state. Being a private school doesn't allow you to recruit. If they are going to be in the KHSAA they will not be able to approach kids from other schools like they do at the middle school level. Although loooking at the roster right now, it looks like they have already "picked up" some kids from the 58th.

Sorry I misspoke, I know that it is still aginst the rules for a private school to recruit. However with it being a Private school, it is MUCH easier for them to do it and get away with it. This is how many private schools are good year in and year out. This is what will happen with Wesley too wait and see.
06-12-2011, 01:51 PM
If the kids leave before they attend the first day of 9th grade.....Then it will do no one any good to cry. They WILL be eligible.

Private schools can't recruit per se. However they can give scholarships to people. Trust me their is more than enough money behind that school if they want to recruit they will do it and won't get caught. I don't like it more than the next guy but you can't stop it.

Who is on there roster?
06-13-2011, 11:51 PM
I guess I shouldn't have said roster but I have heard a couple of Knott County boys are playing for them. Also, the big boy from AC is playing with them now also. I had heard there were different players playing with them right now that are attending other schools at this time. I also thought a kid from South Floyd was playing but someone said that he must have went back with them.

First off for any student considering to leave their current high school, this would be a huge mistake. Wesley High School will not be able to compete for a KHSAA title for at least 3 more years. They might travel and play some nice places but they can't play for a KHSAA TITLE, and you want that chance. Once you attend another school in some cases you will have to sit out a year. The incoming Freshman might be able to compete by their senior year. What I'm trying to say is before you lock yourself into a decision get all the information, email the KHSAA.org or call the number is on the site. This is not middle school you just can't move back and forth. Wesley might be a good school for future students but are willing to gamble with yours.(future that is)
