In stunningly apt fashion the gentleman from New York's 9th district, proves that truth is stranger than fiction. In a statement to the world today he tries his best to fake his way through what has become an all too familiar staged scene, in which a disgraced liberal democratic politician tries to look contrite after being caught red handed in sexual debautchery. I couldn't help noticing how confident he tried to be, late last week as he thought to cleverly cover everything up.

Again it is an example of what I have noticed liberals doing for a couple of decades now. One needs only to declare with confidence anything he wants, no matter how untrue or out of line, and people will buy it. Bill Clinton did exactly the same thing on a number of occassions with great success. In fact, here we are a mere two presidents later and nobody even brings up the cloud of shame under which he left office. If the republicans bring these things up the left would be howling, so, we normally just let the sleeping dogs lie.

At any rate, this time for Mr Weiner it didn't quite work out. What say you?

What you say is true but Republicans do not generally manage to hang on to their Congressional seats when they get caught with their pants down. When Republicans have done similar things in the past, both Democrats and Republicans have demanded their resignations.

Weiner will probably survive this scandal. I would be shocked to see him resign.

The Democrats do seem to overlook their own missteps while hammering others. If the President and Congressional leadership want to start some type of bipartisanship they should make a statement about this being an embarrassment to the House and that Wiener should step down.

It's good to see that there is some justice, if not poetic justice, in this world. Weiner is among the most vocal and scathing in his assessment of those across the aisle. He gives no quarter but will expect Americans to forgive and forget as if nothing happened. The point is, if one wants to criticize to the degree he does and with the obvious disrespect he is known for, he should have been very keen on keeping his own house in order. Now his leadership against the other side is permanently over and his influence is lost.

They'll never be able to do this but, if the dems could all be civil and show respect for the laws we already have on the books and the lawmakers that have gone on before and genuinely work with the republicans, a lot of people that for moral reasons have left the democrats behind in favor of the republicans, might come home. IMO, the more they insist on playing hard ball politics, the more they will fade.

I love the fact that it was Andrew Breitbart who got the goods on Weiner and forced him to apologize for his lies. Weiner was late for his press conference and another reporter asked Breitbart to take a few questions while everybody waited for the lying scumbag to show up to face the music. I think that I was wrong on this one. It looks like even Democrats cannot save Weiner's career. Ed Shultz has even called for his resignation.

^You know as well as anybody that if a republican hot shot who was as quoted and featured as Weiner is, were to be caught red handed at something as morally bass as this, the left would be metaphorically dancing in the streets.

The only reason we, and everyone else in the country, are talking about it is because it just happened. And like it or not, it goes to the credibility of all of the left's arguements about what they consider their moral obligations are, as they legislate us into a better, in their minds only, America.

In their minds the US needs to be changed to help the unfortunate more than we presently do. The conservative thinking says, ok let's help people but let's give most of that help in making and sustaining an economic environment conducive for them to succeed on their own. Once the "Great Society" genie was let out of the bottle there was no way to draw a lline in the sand on how, or where, to stop giving folks stuff. I always like to help someone if I can but, at some point in time that ' helped ' person needs to stike out on their own or, they become burdensome. There seems to be no way to stop the runaway entitlements. Nor do the liberal thinkers of our time neccessarily want things to change because any change would by nature change the voting dynamic.

I think that RINO's and a few true conservatives can and have engaged in the same kind of behavior. I just don't remember hearing stories of Newt Gingrich going down under a table in an upscale restaurant with the lucky girl of the night, ala Ted Kennedy. Or a presidential cigar party, queen of corona-esque under the desk intern, for Nixon, Reagan or either of the Bushes. But, for what it's worth, after I heard my favorite QB sent pix of himself being,'excited about life', to women, he dropped off the list in my book completely. I think that you are missing the point. Weiner didn't just behave stupidly, using government facilities and equipment in the process. He didn't just lie about what he had done. He pointed fingers at reporters like Breitbart for implying that he had done anything wrong. Weiner claimed that he was just an innocent victim of a "prank" and conservative bloggers who were keeping the story alive.

Weiner only admitted the truth when Breitbart revealed that at least one of the young women had provided him with access to hundreds of "conversations" and her (Anthony) Weiner photo collection. Breitbart described the ones that were not published as "X-rated" and Weiner promptly apologized for his attacks on Breitbart and the other conservative reporters that he had slandered.

As for being a liberal "hater," you have the wrong guy. I hate liberalism but I have many misguided liberal friends and if you search the old posts, you will discover at least a couple of occasions on which I even defended Dennis Kucinich.

Kucinich is the Democrats' answer to Ron Paul. He is no further to the left than Obama, he seems like a genuinely decent man, and yet the media treats him like a clown when he runs for president - just as they treat Paul. I also have a great deal of respect for Joe Lieberman, who is extremely liberal except on national defense issues and our policy toward Israel.

The country is not going to get any better as long as liberals control the federal government. As much as I dislike Weiner, if he resigns, New York will just replace him with another far left wing Democrat. I hope that he tries to hang on to his job and I wish him the best of luck. A new liberal hack with a clean record would be much more effective in dismantling what is left of our private economy.

This all started when a US Congressman made himself susceptible to blackmail by sending obscene snapshots of himself to young women whom he did not even know. As if that was not bad enough, the dumba$$ hit the wrong button in Twitter and sent a photo of his crotch to unintended recipients and the crotch shot went viral.

Think about how stupid Wiener was to use his real name and photo to engage in this kind of behavior. He wanted the objects of his lust to know that he was a powerful Washington insider.

The lamestream media would have been happy to have ignored this story, even though the young "ladies" involved could just as easily been Chinese agents targeting horny US politicians. Mark Sanford Repblican Governor of South Carolina was caught having an affair after running a campaign built around superior family morals. He was not asked to resign and finished his term.

Eric Cantor, the second highest Republican in the House, said we should pray for Sanford and Vitter's families and that it was up to the people if they should stay in office.

Note my use of the word "generally" - it was no accident. Do you really want to go down the road of comparing instances where Democrats survived major scandals and remained in office to Republicans who have done the same? If you would like, we can start with Bill Clinton lying under oath to a federal judge, getting disbarred, fined heavily, and surviving an impeachment trial because not one Democrat in the US Senate thought perjury was a disqualifier for the nation's top law enforcement officer.

We could continue to Alcee Hastings, who Nancy Pelosi appointed Vice-Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Hastings is a former federal judge who was disbarred for accepting bribes. What a pick to entrust with top secret classified materials!

Republicans are just as prone to be ensnared in scandals as Democrats but when they are caught, they are much more likely to get the boot from their own party. If you want to continue comparing scandal survivors, Democrats and current Congressmen Chris Dodd and Barney Frank are waiting on deck and in the hole (bad pun intended). :biggrin:
