Prestonsburg 2011
#1
What does this season look like and has anyone heard anything on the schedule?
#2
I have not seen an official schedule but heard that P-burg added Lawrence Co. and Perry Central. Kept Pike Central and Belfy and Dropped Matewan and Paintsville. A new district alignment with Betsy Layne and Leslie replacing Morgan and Bath which I see a step up in District Competition. Betsy Layne will play above themselves to win this one, and Leslie has been showing overall improvment over the last few years. With Stepp at Valley coaching against his Alma Mater it will carry that game to a whole new level, besides Valley can be having the worst year ever and still play P-burg close.

The Blackcats lost some talent with this past graduating class but I don't see them dropping off any. Their biggest issue will be regionals where they will be playing against teams from arguably the best district top to bottom in the state.

Prestonsburg lost some key players like Alex Griffith, Nathan Slone and Trevor Stovall, however the Blackcats return everyone of their skill players including one of the top 2012 prospects in the state in WR/DB Joseph Jamerson. They also return 4 offensive linemen, including Alex Garner & Chris Cook, who are IMO two of the better OL in the Mountains.

I do expect another run out of them this upcoming season, as Adam Crisp will have plenty of weapons to throw the ball too like, Bryson Williams, Jamerson and Grant Anderson. All 3 are extremely athletic and can go the distance every time they touch the ball.

I think Pburg will be a better offensive team for the first time in a decade, if not more. A lot of younger guys will have to step up and replace two of the leading tacklers that graduated.

I like Pburg's chances though at making another run at a Class 2A State Championship.

I think I know the answer to this, but what school is considered Prestonsburg's main rival?

I would think that maybe Belfry and Sheldon Clark could fit that category. But, obviously, that's just MO.

Belfry
Sheldon Clark
Pikeville
Paintsville

Are all considered rivals for Prestonsburg.

You could probably throw Shelby Valley in there too, but they haven't beaten Prestonsburg in quite sometime, but the games between these two are always exciting to watch.

Is the August 12 date with Letcher Central a scrimmage?

I would have to think, based upon recent history, that Prestonsburg will do very well this season. They have a great tradition, and I do not see anything changing that.

Yes, to the best of my knowledge. Sorry i didnt put it on there.

Casey County is a very random opponent.

The whole Casey County things is out of the norm. Maybe it was the only school left with an open week on that date.
I feel the Blackcats should be able to fill the offensive positions but with Griffith and Stovall gone from linebacker, shoring up the defense will be tough, but I would guess that the Blackcats have the personnel to do it.

I agree about Casey County. They are located just west of Pulaski Co., will be a long trip.
Basically the only offensive player lost was Nathan Slone, but he did have over 700 yards rec. & was a threat to take it to the house everytime he touched the ball. Grant Anderson could take over that position.
Defense with the loss of Alex Griffith & Trevor Stovall they will have some big shoes to fill, but when Alex was injured last year Kain Collins stepped in & proved he was capable of filling those shoes & there are others like Michael Bertrum to fill the other LB position.
Nathan Slone was also there shut down CB last year, but Grant will probably fill in there also.
The Griffith twins IMO will play a bigger role on defense this year along with several others.
The O-line i think will be incredible this year with Alex Garner, Chris Cook, and Zach Rowe who has really sprouted up in the off season.
GO BLACKCATS!!!!

Pburg should be a good team this year, cant wait until they play Belfry , its always exciting!
#16
Pburg should have a great season. Garner, Jamerson, Williams, Cook and Anderson are some of the best players in the mountains. Btw where exactly is casey county? Wat city is that does anyone know?
#17
Prestonsburg will be very very good next season, and I look forward to see how they compete against the new region. I still see them getting around 7 or 8 wins next year.
#18
Im looking foward to the hazard game and them?
#19
P-burg could have a very great team this year. This team could make a trip back to state.
#20
Yes, I would definitely agree that Prestonsburg will do well in the 2011 season; they have skilled players and a very successful coach and staff. Thus, one would expect them to be a typical Prestonsburg team.

Should at worst be an 8 win regular season for Pburg. Belfry will be tough, as will Sheldon Clark and Pike Central on the road.
#24
They will probably regret putting belfry later on in the schedule. IMO. But I can very easily see another trip to state for the blackcats.
#25
Prestonsburg has the tradition of always fielding a competitive team, and I would think that 2011 will not be an exception.

They have extremely good coaching and dedicated players, thus their prospects for the coming season look very good.

Not hardly,Johnson Central had an opening at week six. That would be a great game for both communities. I say this every year, but maybe next year these two neighbors will play. The Casey County for the blackcats is as about as strange as Lawrence County playing Jackson County.

pburg should play the eagles hit would be a big money game for both teams would make good rivel

And prestonsburg would probably get blown out. That would be a huge morale killer for a team used to success. won't happen. Honestly I think it would be a bad idea anyway,

IMO, it would be a great game, especially if the two were facing one another this upcoming season.

Would more than likely be a shootout between the two offenses, but still a fun game to watch.
