I can go with this. Did Mayfield lose much?

Did LCA move up in class? I know they lost a lot of sr.'s but it still seems to me that they would figure in above Cambellsville or Bellvue. Cambellsville and Bellvue both lost 8 or 9 sr.s and were 5-7 and 4-7 respectively on last season.

They are now in AA.

Thanks, Panther Thunder, for the info. I wonder what all the changes were going into this season. Who moved up and who moved in,as far as 1A goes?

They lost a great senior class, but they do return enough experience that i just can't put beechwood or hazard ahead of them now. all 3 will have a new qb
#9
What all does beechwood bring back toussaints?

I really dont know what they have returning to rank them above hazard because hazard brings back a ton of talent and the only real loss was the QB and a lineman. So basically the whole team is returning.

I'd flip Pikeville and Bellevue, and Frankfort and Raceland. But otherwise, looks about right.

Beechwood is like Hazard as far as losses, a QB and some linemen on both sides. They return everyone else, but their biggest question is at QB. Actually, both teams i think have more coming back than Mayfield.
#12
I think Williamsburg will be the favorite ahead of Campbellsville in their district. They both lost a lot, but Williamsburg was better last year and has two pretty good skilled guys back, plus two pretty solid linemen.

I agree Mayfield lost a lot but they are top dogs in my book until a 1A team beats them.
#14
Mayfield will be hit hard in linemen and qb. They do return Jonathan Jackson who will likely be the best individual player in class A. They return a ton of talent in the skill positions and most of their defense. The Cards in 2012 already look to be stacked but I would expect some growing pains next year, atleast early. In a nutshell, they are going to again be pretty darn good and will go as far as their talented but inexperienced offensive line and qb play will take them. I'm not one to say oh your the favorite because your the defending champs but I will say that they are at a minmum one of the favorites.

Jonathan Jackson will be hard to stop this year. Class A will have some really good RBs this year

Jackson- Mayfield
Vocke- Beechwood
Keen- Louisville HC
Blanton- Hazard (he might have been a wr though)

Does anybody know if Hazard got the Sizemore kid from Letcher Central for sure?

That's fine .... let Hazard be ranked ahead of Beechwood.

Beechwood Returns 7 out of 11 on offense. (5 others return who made at least one start).
Beechwood Returns 10 out of 11 on defense.

QB is new--but he also played a great deal at the beginning of the season last year. QB is solid athlete (with good size)--who is generating a little interest based on his performance last year and performance at camps already this season.

Mayfield should be the favorite based on all the skill players that they have returning. Jackson is great ... but I would expect better numbers from Vocke (against significantly better competition).

No clue what Hazard has ... but if they have more coming back than either of these teams (especially after losing the QB from last year) ... then everyone better watch out for the DAWGS.

Hazard has

Zack Blanton (senior) 98 rush attemps for 1002 yards and 15 tds. he has 18 catches for 400 yards and 6 tds

Austin Johnson (junior) 15 attempts for 85 yards and 2 tds, 36 catches for 878 and 14 tds plus he is an heck of a DB.

BJ Combs (senior) 42 catches for 893 yards and 9 tds, plus the leader of the linebacking core

Jordan Olinger ( junior) 51 catches for 1090 yards and 12 tds.

Those will be your big names to watch for and players to keep your eye on Josh Meehan, Zach Napier Nathan Higgins Jordan Hampton Deion Harris Dylan Logan. Also a big name i've been hearing is Brandon Jones an incoming freshmen who is suppose to be real good. Its possible Hazard may be getting a QB from Letcher but no one can comfirm it or not but either way Hazard is still going to be a dangerous team.

This just came out today in the Harlan Daily Enterprise by sports reporter John Middleton.

I cant believe Raceland didnt get mentioned in this poll.
#21
Yeah,me too. Also, I have my suspicions about Williamsburg. They lost 13 sr.s from a team that was kind of small to start with. Other's say don't ever count them out,so I won't. Anyone could make a case not to put Harlan in there too. I'll just watch and see when season comes.
#22
Raceland lost their QB, top two runningbacks and by far their best receiver off of a team that lost to Fairview by 27. Who would you put them ahead of? I can see a case for Williamsburg, but that same Williamsburg team was better against both of the teams common opponents. Williamsburg defeated (Campbellsville) by more than Raceland did and only lost to Fairview by 7. Williamsburg also returns their QB, RB and leading tackler.
#23
HarlanCountyCard Wrote:Williamsburg also returns their QB, RB and leading tackler.

Williamsburg doesn't return much up front though. Their qb and rb will struggle with an inexperienced offensive line early in the year
#24
I think a case could be made for Walton Verona. They lost 1 running back from a back field that rushed for 3000 yds. That back had just over 1000 yds,but that leaves alot plus thier QB. They need to put a good line together, but they may very well have the linemen they need to do that.

I just really don't see Campbellsville being very good this season but being Cobb's 2nd season maybe he can get the numbers up and turn the corner.

Walton Verona is moving up.
Plus ... they were not anywhere near as good as their record against weak teams suggested last season.

(Cameron Vocke had 8 carries for 275 yards in the first quarter and a half--and never touched the ball again. And Mayfield handled Beechwood). Walton and Brossart were not as close as anyone tried to play off last year ... and being in AA ... it will be worse for them.

My thought is that the championship will go through the West again this season. Mayfield or Beechwood.

No offense to bac ... but at the end of the day ... Hazard had a good team last year ... and Mayfield destroyed them. Beechwood, at the very least, played Mayfield close for a half. Beechwood has a lot coming back. Mayfield has a lot coming back. It is just hard to see where a team that was so easily outmanned against Mayfield will make up that much in a year. Not saying that they cant .... but it will be tough.

I will say that Mayfield, Hazard and Beechwood are the 3 teams with the best shot. It will take a momumental effort from the others to make up enough ground to hang with any of these three.
#27
Listen people, Mayfield will be a faster team than they were in 2010. If they get good solid line play and the new QB comes through, it will be a repeat and after that I really like the odds for 2012.
#28
Whats the talk about some Tennessee players possibly taking up residence this summer in Mayfield?

I agree Mayfield did destroy hazard in that game but they were a better team than what the score showed. Confidence was took away earlier and there was no coming back for them once it was gone. Mayfield lost everyone that scored in that game except maybe 1 or 2 people. Well to be honest look what Mayfield did the year they got man handled by LCA they came back the next year and won it all. so it is very possible to make that ground up. But i do agree that is really a 3 man race with Hazard, Mayfield, Beechwood. Maybe a dark horse in Frankfort or Holy Cross.
