I have talked to close friends to woolum and they told me that he won't be playing this year. I hope it's not true.

I've also heard that a couple of those that you mentioned that could help are not going to be playing next season. The most notable would be Woolum. He is a playmaker on both sides of the ball.

I hate to hear that Woolum is not playing. What other players have you heard might not play?

Talked to Gooser's dad last and son not playing also, I asked why and he said his son was burned out. He was a great player IMO, that's 2 lost from the backfield.

Hate to hear Gooser not playing.

Im going to guess about an 7-3 season for the hounds. They will be pretty good but the road of them will be hard playoff time.

Looks to me that if Corbin finishes second in the district behind Bell co. they would have to, more than likely, play Central in the first rd. and then Bell co. in the second rd.. Thats pretty tough. Good luck to the Redhounds. I hope they play well.

That's not how the playoffs work.
Assuming Central is going to be as good as everyone says they will finish 1st inthe district. So if Corbin finishes 2nd there is no way they can play Central that early.
Corbin can't play Bell in the 2nd round either if they both finish 1-2. Thus would have to meet up for th regional title.

So, how many teams out of the 41 in 3A will go to the playoffs? And who plays who?

Dragonsdad Wrote:So, how many teams out of the 41 in 3A will go to the playoffs? And who plays who?
32 teams of the 41 teams in 3A will make the playoffs. There is 8 districts in 3A, and in all classes for that fact.
District 1 and District 2= Region 1. District 1's #1 seed plays District 2's #4 seed in the first round, #2 plays #3 and vice versa. This is the case for all districts, in all classes, excpet for 6A where their regions rotate every year.
For the rest of 3A and for classes 1A, 2A, 4A and 5A, the following districts and regions are as follows:
District 1 and District 2= Region 1
District 3 and District 4= Region 2
District 5 and District 6= Region 3
District 7 and District 8= Region 4
Region 1 and Region 2= Semi State 1 (a.ka. The West)
Region 3 and Region 4= Semi State 2 (a.k.a The East)
Winners of each Semi State play for all the marbles.

Dragonsdad Wrote:So, how many teams out of the 41 in 3A will go to the playoffs? And who plays who?
8 districts in 3A
4 teams in each district go to the playoffs
8 x 4 = 32 teams in 3A go to the playoffs
District 1 plays District 2 in the 1st round
3 vs 4
5 vs 6
7 vs 8

Thanks,F.L.A.D and 3Wishes, I wasn't sure exactly how many teams were in the playoffs. The way I had it figured was right but didn't have enough teams in it. My son just started playing varsity last year and although the Dragons were 2nd in thier district I really didn't pay alot of attention to the way it was set up. When I played back in 80-84 only the winner of the district went to the playoffs. Almost everybody gets a chance now. Thanks again.

Corbin has a nice group of young players. I look for them to get better with every game next year.

The good thing about this group of young players is that most of them saw alot of playing time last year.

One more week then it all begins summer pratice getting ready for football season.Look for Corbin to be a contender in 3a this year.

Does anyone know of any scrimmages that Corbin will be in.

Dalton Sizemore will be a huge addition to Corbin, if he has indeed transferred, possibly enough to put them over the hump.

Actually, the winner of each sub-district made the playoffs then. The winner of the Harlan-Cumberland-Evarts sub-districtr played the winner of the Pineville-Lynn Camp-Williamsburg sub-district in the district championship game.
Only one team per district made the playoffs from 1959 to the late 70s, until sub-districts started.

You are right HDE. Sorry about the mistake. I Might have caught on had we have been able to win just one from '81 to '84. I played on some of the best teams in school history,-'84, and couldn't get out of the sub-district. Cumberland had some great teams in those days. Harlan Co. had to be one of the stronger counties,if not the strongest, for 1A football in the state from '80 to '83. I think Tim Saylor and Rick McCreary may have been the only two head coaches football from Harlan Co. that coached more than 5 years to have winning records when they retired. There could have been others I just wouldn't know who they are. You might Know. Cawood had a good coach or two in the past. Rick McCreary,I'm pretty sure, was the only coach with a winning record to ever coach football at Harlan.

I think this is a Corbin thread.

I remember watching Sizemore play in middle school. He was a very athletic QB who had a good arm. Im not really sure how he has grown or matured into a high school football player. Any info or stats from his previous school? And I also agree he will be a big addition to a talented group of young players for Corbin.

From hearing thing like players sitting out or kids moving corbin may be hard pressed to post a good record. With games against grc on road, tates creek, danville, and now bell co in district they are going to have to have young players step up and play big against tough opponents. Corbin's string of consecutive district wins and titles may come to an end this year. Will be an interesting year for the redhounds. Have been hearing that several of the middle school players from last years back to back middle school teams may not be playing or will be leaving the area. That will definitely hurt building the program. This team had some really good players.

Heard the rollins kid may be going to north laurel next year, at one time the vorbeck kid wasn't even going to play which i know can change but he wasn't playing last i heard, the hopper kid which i think was an all-state selection last year, and others talking about not playing....but those names i heard were definites. The rollins boy was an all-state selection too and i figured might actually see some serious playing time on the varsity level even as a frosh.....but i know how rumors go also

Rollins will be going to South Laurel. I don't think this will impact the team this year but in the long run could hurt. The kid is a beast and could have worked his self onto the field this year. Hopefully he will realize that South Laurel isn't the best fit for him... As for Vorbek he is playing, but I'm not sure about Hopper. Last year was Hopper's first year playing and showed great athleticism and potential. Even though the freshmen class has lost a couple from the state championship team they have also added a few. As it stands now they have more than they did a year ago. And I would say the departures from the sophomore class will have a bigger impact on this season.

Why would Rollins transfer to South Laurel? I guess he would start next year for them, maybe that's one of the reasons.

As far as I know football didn't play into his decision. It is possible that he might not even play football at South. He had a very difficult decision to make and I hope he doesn't regret his decision down the road.
