Thats hard to believe!!!! That means he's faster than 99% of the DB, RB, WR in the NFL!!!

I believe the player from Sheldon Clark you are referring to is KP Skyles. And, no, he did not run a 4.3 at Marshall. He ran a 4.44; he was timed by Bill Legg, one of the Assistant Coaches. I have gotten this information from a very reliable source, and believe it to be true.
As I have read on this venue, 40 times are extremely subjective, but seems to be an interesting topic and elicits a great deal of comment.

He ran 4.4, he is still faster than 70% of NFL players. WOW, he will score every play.

HAHAHAHA Here we go AGAIN. I think BGR needs to make a new rule:
"No Threads or discussion about 40 yd, 60 yd, 100 m, or any measure of distance and time shall be allowed on bluegrassrivals.com. The reasoning behind this rule is that you are all lying and all uninformed. EKY does not have 25 kids that would be in the top fourth of the NFL combine in relation to speed. When referring to speed the words you can use and are limited to are: quick, fast, super fast, really fast, can fly, slow, not fast, can be timed on a calendar, mucho fasto. Thank you for your cooperation when dealing with this issue."
Just a thought.

Just add .22 to any 40 time posted on BGR as a general rule of thumb

I agree if a kid can run a 4.7 in high school he is fast when going against kids that run 5.0 flat 40 yard dash. Like Former said if a kid ran a 4.4 he would rush for 5,000 yards. The thing about 40 yard Dash is that it's always time by coach Joe Blow who is probably using his cell phone.
The only times that should be mentioned on here is 100 meter, 200 meter times that can be seen on the KHSAA or some otehr type of website to varify it.

with a 4.44 i still didnt see skyles in the endzone last year as much as projected. hard to state he will "score every play".. still in wonder as well though on other 40 times in the mountains.

I was going to say the same thing. The 100/200 times can be checked on the KYTRACKXC.COM web site. Most of these times are computer timed (some are still hand timed, but it tells which races are), and very, very accurate.

well just a suggestion if u dont want to read about forty times then dont click on the post and for second apparently you havent seen kp run a forty he is really fast and apapparently you dont know much about high school football because there is alot of kids that play that run 4.4's and 4.3's even
04-14-2011, 11:12 PM
I believe who PT was referring to was the posters which will post ridiculous amounts of times that we all are false. He never once referred to Kp. we all know he is one of the quickest players in EKY not only that but the time given from the Marshall camp is a legit 4.44 i dont think he was posting based off that.

A lot meaning what? 4 or 5? If that. And I do not know much about the game's intricacies but I know a lot about the general stuff. And even more on the very small percentage of athletes in the US that run a sub 4.5 forty.

NO THERE IS LIKE 40 OR 50 PLAYERS IN THE COUNTRY THAT RUNS 4.3'S AND ABOUT 100 THAT RUNS 4.4'S BUT THAT DONT AUTOMATICALLY MAKE THEM AN ALL STAR PLAYER FOR ONE THEY HAVE TO BE ABLE TO CONTROL THERE SPEED IN AND OUT OF CUTS AND THEY ALSO HAVE TO HAVE STRENGTH AND TALENT TO EVEN BE ABLE TO BE RECOGNIZED AS A GOOD PLAYER BUT IF THEY CAN DO THIS STUFF THEN THEY GET MENTICED BECAUSE THEY R A D1 PROSPECT:Thumbs:

Go to this website and look at the amount of skills guys at the combine run a 4.3 or 4.4 40 yard dash. Randall Cobb ran a 4.46 and if your telling me some high school kid from the mountians of KY is faster than an all SEC WR, QB, RB your crazy. Like the above poster mentioned bring me a 100/200 meter dash time that can be CHECK besides a cell phone timed 40 yard dash in the back yard. Patrick Peterson, CB from LSU best player in the draft, runs a 4.34 are you telling me it's 100 HIGH SCHOOL KIDS that can run with him that my friend is laughable!!!!!

hm 40-50 players out of how many players? that seems to be a small percentage as PT stated, i have no clue where your going with this argument.

being as fast is not being as talented. Skyles ran a 4.44 , he is very quick.
totally agreed though on your statement with Peterson. Definatly not 20 players that is as fast as that.

As I have mentioned before on this site, forty times are highly subjective, to say the least. As have been mentioned by others on this thread, the coach has done the timing, and, obviously, this is even beyond subjective.
Clearly, though, running a great forty is most definitely not the only criterion for being a good running back. He must also have agility, strength, substantive intuition of where to run, (following blockers, etc.) strength, and endurance.
The postings on this thread are entertaining, and kind of like the Op Eds in the daily newspapers, subjective opinions.

Apparently I did not edit the above correctly, so I will continue with another post regarding this subject.
Referencing the young man that ran the forty at the Marshall camp, KP Skyles, he was timed by Bill Legg, assistant Marshall coach, not his own coach or some kid with a stop watch. But, he was timed with a stop watch, not Lazer timed.
I know the above is fact, for I was there, and heard the time announced.
Now, let us look at a couple comments posted previously, and I am going to paraphrase: if a young man is that fast he would score every time on a sweep.
If the offense does not execute, the speedster doesn't go anywhere, and moreover, let us consider the angle that the defensive man may have.
I think I remember reading one post that mentioned a player ruining a 4.3 should gain 5,000 yards. First, I don't know of any players in KY that can run a 4.3. Second, one man does not make a team; I don't care how fast, talented, strong, etc., he needs ten additional guys on the field.
One more comment before I close, and I am going to use KP Skyles as an example. I saw most of Sheldon Clark's game last season, and I am going to mention a couple things I saw, not once, but numerous times, Skyles no more than got the hand-off, (BTLOS-2 yds.) he was downed by two, three, or four of the opposing team's player's. When this occurs, I don't care if the player can run a 4.0 forty, he's not going anywhere. And if you think I am exaggerating, get someone to show you the DVD of last season's Prestonsburg game.
The second situation that would impede any of the Sheldon Clark running backs from being prodigious yardage producers is, the offense SC runs. But, just maybe, they will open it up some this season. We shall see.

Storm Wilson 4.47 @ a Tenn. Camp, was the quickest I seen there.

I would say the fastest kids in the Mountains would be the running backs from Bell Co. Knox Central, and Johnson Central. I have seen all three of those kids play in person. Does anyone have times on those three kids? I would put them up against any players time in the state based on game speed.

If you are talking about KP Skyles, his best time in 100 last year was a 11.98 and does not show him running any races yet this year. A time of 11.98 is far from what I would consider fast, and find it hard to believe he runs a 4.3 or even a 4.4 in the 40, if this is as fast as he can run a 100.

I follow track very close and if you are not electrically timed, hand times have 0.2 seconds added to it (so if his 4.4 was hand timed, you can convert that to a 4.6).

that is a medicore 100m time but some athletes pick up their top speed at the start but cant seem to pick up as they travel. it is likley he can run a 4.44 still.. plus it is a legit time at a marshall HS combine.

Sheehan and Siedl of HHS were 1,2 in the 100 meter yesterday at track meet against 20 schools yesterday at Campbell Country. McGurn brothers were 1,2 in the 200 meter. They impressed a couple of college coaches that were in the stands.

What were their times? Were the coaches interested in their track exploits, or were were they interested in them as football players?
