To my knowledge, Lex Cath is not in this because there isn't a Lexington Cath grade school. Unless they have changed the rules this year, they will not allow teams to come together like that.

What makes Knox and Wayne favorites? Is there anyone in central Kentucky that you know of that is comparable.

Wayne won 7th tourney last year and I've seen Knox and they are very good. Lex Cath is not listed as a team in tourney so I guess they won't be a favorite. I believe there are 78 teams.

What about South Laurel and Clay Co.?

Knox is 2-1 against Clay with the loss coming at clay by 7 or 8. Knox beat them by 20+ at Whitley and at home. I think Knox beat South too not sure though.

Don't forget Virgie, they are a very good team also.
Johnson Co. will make a good showing too.

There is 4 or 5 15th region teams that could make a deep run in this tournament depending on the draw. With the way this tournament is played though, it can be which teams can jump out early on whomever they can and rest there starters.

Wayne,Knox,Lincoln,Clay,AB Combs,Betsy Layne,Johnson Central,Southwestern and Virgie will all be tough outs for any school. It has a lot to do with the draw. Like bball fan said, you have to have games where you can get some rest. If not then the teams with an 8 or 9 man rotation will be there in the end.

There is always going to be a team to two from out west that we don't know about that will be there in the end.

Hoptown is VERY good...played them in Bowling Green. They are a top 5 team. They beat Wayne County once in that tournament before losing to them in the championship.

Hopefully the new revitalized Raceland Rams will have a good showing. All starters will be back and with 15 on the roster now, the bench can play a big part in rotation.

South Laurel & Knox haven't played each other this year. Wayne beat South by 5 & Clay only beat South by 1 in the 8th grade regional tournament @ Whitley Co.

At this point I would have to say the top 8th grade teams are... (in alphabetical order)

Clay Co.
Knox Co.
Lexington Cath.
Lincoln Co.
South Laurel
Southern Pulaski
Vergie
Wayne Co.

Lexington Catholic would clearly be the favorites if they were in this tourney...

However, since they are out I have to think Lincoln County, Wayne County, & Vergie have the 3 best chances to win this thing. :worthy:

We all know it will take a good draw to win a tournament with such a large field though. :popcorn:

I am sure there are several really good teams in that area. This site doesn't seem to get much input from that area. Maybe BGR should do something at these types of tournaments to help get the word out.

Eastside is in Bullitt County. They are a feeder to Bullitt East High School (along with Mt. Washington Middle School). I have not seen them as 8th graders, but they looked pretty good in a Spring league last year as 7th graders.

Lincoln has a vey good team. Not much size but all can handle the ball and most can shoot it deep. The PG is an exceptional player.

Collins is actually Shelby West Middle School, but since the high schools in Shelby County are 8-12, they go by Collins. They did win the Mid-Bluegrass Conference Championship over North Oldham and have a pretty good team. I believe that their record is 20-3, but I'm not 100% sure.

They play East Jessamine at 9:00 on Friday night at Jessie Clark School.
