Another big nky win for the Dogs to improve to 15-7 while Dixie drops to 19-3. Holmes is finally making the transition and getting used to playing without Mayfield. The development of Coston and Amison has also helped with this as well.
Holmes was down 50-45 a minute in to the 4th, and by the 3 min mark they were up 55-50 (10-0 run), keyed by 4 Palmer ft's and then 6 straight points by Gray. Dogs extrended their lead to 60-53 but a Stansberry 3 with 14 seconds left and an uncontested lay up by Trammel at the buzzer gave you the final of 62-58.
Holmes dominated the boards at both ends and Rice had a HUGE two hand tip dunk off a missed shot. He also later had a two hand dunk in traffic to tie the score at 41-41. I'd say he was close to a double double.
Scoring by quarters:
Dixie: 17 - 15 - 15 - 11 --- 58
Holmes: 14 - 19 - 12 - 17 --- 62
Scoring for Holmes:
Gray 17, Hayes 16. Rice 11, Peterson 8, Palmer 6, Knox 4
10 of Gray's 17 came in the 4th quarter.

Good win for the Bulldogs. Looks like things are starting to shape up well for them

Nice win by Bulldogs. First time I've seen Holmes play this year. Fun game to watch in person. I was most impressed with Holmes' tenacity. They have a bunch of scrappers and leapers. One thing I noticed before the game is that Holmes has played a pretty tough schedule this year ... losses to quality teams such as Ballard, Moore, Cincinnati Princeton. On the other hand, Dixie, which also has a very nice team, has played a relatively weak schedule. That might hurt the Colonels in the first round of the Sweet 16 should they win the 9th.
Schools (Ryle, for instance) usually play Holmes tougher the second time because they're more prepared for Holmes' speed. Usually the result is a more deliberate and lower-scoring game. I certainly think you'd see a different Dixie game plan should the teams meet in the Ninth tourney out at NKU.
Ninth Region can be won by five or six teams this year. Having said that, the region isn't what it was the past four or so years, and whoever emerges likely will be an underdog to the 11th Region champ in the first round of the Sweet 16.

I agree, whoever wins the 9th will most likely struggle against the Lexington winner. But there are 6 teams that could win the 9th in Dixie, Holmes, Newcath, Covcath, Boone County, and Ryle. And i even wouldn't count out Holy Cross or Conner yet. After this week is done we'll get a good idea of who's who.

Would the outcome have been different if the game was at Dixie Heights? I've noticed all of Holmes losses have been away except for the 1 point loss to Campbell County (13-8) at home, can u say home cooking? Is there any truth to this pattern or is this just a pattern kywldcat01?
