For those of you that are offended or upset with the use of the F word being used by coaches at every level in any sport have not played varsity ball of any kind. They all use it at one time or another. The F word isn't a curse word. It is obsene and is not politically correct, but I would rather a coach use that word rather than cursing a player. When coaches use this kind of vocabulary it's nothing personal and a player thinks nothing of it, it's part of the game. If you think that is the first time this kid has heard that kind of language you would be mistaken. Take it for what it's worth. It's between a player and his coach nothing else. I understand where you are going with that, but it's not the F word that is considered cursing in this instance, based on the comment he made - "selfish mother******" and it being directed towards a player, that is by all definition cursing the player. I call someone a blooming idiot, that is not using a curseword, but I certainly cursed at the person. Fair?

I'll split it with you. I've seen coaches curse players, using GD you for this or that. That is cursing and there is no place for a coach like that in any sport.
selfish mother***** may be demeaning to a player but I guarantee he got the jist of it where as you GDmother****** carries a much more derogotory meaning to it. Agree?

I could scratch off a $1,000 winning lottery ticket and you could say "you GDmother******", and the tone will be much different, and I will be taking it much different.

As for the words themselves, it's been said already many times, these players have heard the same words used, and have heard them very often. That's a shame, and I am not saying I condone it, but I certainly understand it. I've been coaching for a long time, and my tone is much different with players. Last night during winter conditioning with our HS baseball players, I got frustrated with having to "talk over" players, my tone changed, and decibel level changed, and everyone in the gym got the message. I did not have to do it again, but I never had to use a cuss word either!

but the fact remains that we are on here taking time out of our day to talk about it when there are a lot of things that are probably more productive.

You really do not know what you are talking about if you think all coaches curse AT their players and call them names as Calipari did. And there is a big difference in cursing to make a point and cursing at an individual. The first is very common and must be excused to some extent but the second should never be tolerated at any level. It's wrong in the classroom, it's wrong in the workplace, and it is wrong on a basketball court in front of a national audience. Coach Cal knows that and he did the right thing by making a public apology because he embarrassed Jones very publicly.

Very much agreed. It was embarrassing for all and a learning experience for all involved.

It's one thing to say a cuss word and its another to belittle and curse a young man.
