Sheldon Clark is down to 6 High School players left on the team after BJ moore quit tonight.

#1 Kelley Hayes Guard Sr.
3 Jonathan English Guard Fr.
23 Mikey Moore Forward Sr.
10 Trevor Blackburn Guard 8th
11 Justin Johnson Guard Fr.

This is the Roster now after some players have quit, Seems like something is wrong here with BJ quiting

So what exactly is the reason for everyone quitting? Spurlock has had success at every school he's coached at for the most part.
#3
Patriot you left one player off the roster....#21 Chase Kirk...Guard.... he hasn't quit !!!!!
#4
Hate to see a kid quit just because the circumstances change or are not to their liking... I was always taught once I started I didn't quit until the end. That mentality seems to have gone by the wayside these days... This makes 3 teams with players quitting in the middle of games or practice or what-not just in the past couple of weeks.
#5
be more specific, what is the main reason for everyone quitting?
#6
Coach Spurlock came to SCHS and basically stepped into a hornets nest, it was a mess when he got here, he probably should have got a little more input before he took the job, its sad that a good coach will probably get a bad name for something that has been going on for years. These ball players are getting tired of the way things have been done. To add fuel to the fire, it didn't help that a bunch of middle school boys were moved up, but I guess without them would they even be enough to have a ball team? If things are ever gonna get better someone better step up and get a grip on the basketball program or else BASKETBALL IN MARTIN COUNTY IS OVER. Coach Spurlock if you stay be careful of who you let get their foot in the door, because they just might step all over you....

I would say discipline.

Here at PCC, we have some lower numbers because that.

Coaches that "seemed" successful from the outside often did just enough to get by and won games based solely on their scheduling ability and talent. They don't practice on snow days, have short practices, let kids get by with way to much, etc.

There are 5 schools in our region that have new coaches, 4 of those have low, low numbers. IMHO, Lawrence County has low numbers not because of Coach Anderson was undisciplined, but because football is back big and a lot of kids didn't want to play for the new coach.

The other 3 fall into the program wasn't in as good of shape as those on the outside thought.

Seems like what i have read they are a lot of schools in the 15th that have a revolving door policy , I can quit today and come back tommorrow or when ever i want . Its not about the TEAM but about me so i will quit the team, then come back , hopefully the coaches will grow up and make the kids play by the rules , if you don't want to be on the TEAM then stay home.

Very well said... unfortunately it doesn't just come down to the coach in making that decision. In some cases there is a lot of pressure from "others" to allow the kid(s) back so the team(s) can continue to have success... at whatever cost.

has there ever been a situation around here where we only have 6 high school kids on the team. if im not mistaken 4 are seniors. what will they do next year is the real question. will they still have a team or will they have to use the middle school team.
#11
Wasn't SC having these same problems last season where a lot of players quit and later returned to the team?
#12
IMO, its a problem with undisciplined kids. If its not all about them then they quit. If things are not done to there liking they quit. I have always told my kids before they start anything that if they start they will finish like it or not. I dont know the situation of any of these schools that are having this problem but, bottom line to me seems to be discipline.
I seen Lawrence Co. at P'burg the other night & if i'm not mistaken they had 7 players on varsity & 3 where grade school kids, but they played there hearts out. The coach couldnt ask for anything more out of these boys. I prefer heart over undisciplined talent anyday.

:please: maybe you need to find out the real facts and not say that these kids r not disciplined. maybe just maybe if several players r unhappy and deciding 2 leave the team then lets put blame where it should be the coaching staff, athletic director. but no instead folks want to praise them and put the children down.

i personally think that the middle school children are wat the coachers want. and hey if they r talanted enough 2 play high school, lets see what they can do.

:thatsfunn

last i heard a certain coach was asking players that quit 2 come back. so lets c whose fault is it. the coaches they beg the players back. so maybe the coaches need 2 c their mistakes and stay home and learn disciple themselves. and look up what a TEAM means.

Let's try using cap. letters at the beginning of every sentence and it's spelled "are" not "r". Thanks.
I hope everything works out for Sheldon Clark.

when so many kids have quit and the quality of some of these kids, some of these kids are great kids.

the coaching staff really needs to look at themselves and say what am i doing wrong. but know its not them its the kids fault.

schs will be lucky if they have a high school team this year. its looking more and more like a middle school team. and its a shame. this team was hand delievered to them ready to compete for the regional title and its not worked big time.
#21
Very true. I have posted this before on this post. I fully agree when you start you have to finish.
#22
I was absolutely astounded when I saw that a 6th. grader was on the high school roster. Someone please tell me it's not true.

I would think that if a high school team can not fill their roster with a full contingent of freshmen through seniors, there is definitely something drastically wrong somewhere.

How is it the kids fault? If im not mistaken the same thing happen at clay county when spurlock was there and sc always had plenty of players with the last coaching staff n mayb had 2 or 3 quit but no starters or even players who got to play even if it was jus a min or two.
#24
lol i was being sarcastic. the coaches have to really look at themselves. I believe hiring Spurlock has obviously became a very big mistake. i meant that the powers that be that hired would never admit that they were wrong.
#25
You got start building a program back somewhere. Spurlock will work the kinks out.
#26
yell lets put the blame on children. thats the correct thing to do isnt it. :thatsfunn how dare we think it could be the adults that are called coaches. they surely have no athority huh..give me a break! put blame where it lays on the coaches.
#27
agree with u how can folks blame kids.

Get real. Coach Spurlock knows what he is doing. Sounds like you personally know someone who quit. Spurlock will turn this program around.

Undisciplined players who quit when they do not get their way = a very young roster.

Either listen to the coach or quit complaining.
