2011 State Finals
#1
Who are some of the team who you think will make it to state in 2011? I know its way early but i want to know what you think? Also what will be the most competitive class or toughest class in next years 6 classes?

I believe Hazard and Mayfield have a shot at playing each other next year also. 2A will get more competive for NCC with LCA and Somserset. 2A is wide open on both sides east and west. 3A could be a battle in the west with the likes of Bell and Central hooking up in the playoffs early and could be possible to see 2 mountain teams in the finals. 4A Wow is all i can say with the east side of the bracket with teams like Boyle, Lex Cath, Knox Central, Cov Cath, Highlands, Holmes, Ashland Blazer, and Jonhson Central. I would also add the west isnt to shabby neither. 5A The mountains could possible get some teams to the finals now that Highlands has went to 4A. 6A Wow again because of the Super District with the big 4 in Trinity, St X, Manuel and Male. I would say 6A will be won by whoever wins this district.

Toughest class and most competive will be 4A next year and thats hands down

If i had to guess games for next year this is how i see them.

1A Hazard vs Mayfield
2A NCC vs Glasgow
3A Bell vs Belfry
4A Highlands vs Collins
5A BG vs Harlan County
6A Trinity vs Dixie Heights

It would be tough to argue with your picks, not knowing what each team returns.

One stumble for Bell will be that being in Dist 4 Region 2 (in an odd year) in WKY they would have to go to Central (Dsit 3) for a region final and to Paducah (Region 1) for the semi-state game

It would be upset of the year if Belfry doesn't make it, only 1 or 2 teams on that side of the state that could push them.

I agree but Breathitt County returns a lot of play makers.

your list looks well. But if there is going to be a year that Mayfield wont make it it will be in 2011. but there is a whole list or star studed players coming all the way down to the 4th grade level. never has mayfield had this kind of talent coming up through the classes. Gotta look out for Russelville in 1a in the west too cause they will be dropping out of 3a.

we will pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off and start over again, here at Hazard we are driven to succeed and maybe one of these days we will get that state championship that we all want so bad.

I like Trinity going for the 3-peat

They'll need two more seasons for that.

6a- trinity vs RYLE Dixie will lose to ryle or sk

i know, next year and the year after

TNT-MB1 Wrote:6a- trinity vs RYLE Dixie will lose to ryle or sk

i think SK loses too much to be competitive with ryle and dixie next year. its gonna be hard to replace that senior class

other classes:
1A- Beechwood returns everyone but the QB and a couple skill guys
2A- Glasgow looks to be pretty tough
3A- idk
4A- Highlands
5A- idk

Are you writing off centrals plethora of talent and their 19 returning starters?

No and I did not know they had 19 returning starters. If thats the case then they just might repeat.

1A I think Hazard is almost a lock to make it out the East, in the West I would say Mayfield or Beechwood.
2A Glasgow had an excellant regular season but lost in the first round of the playoff, and also lose 15 senoirs. But as always the Scotties have as much talent as anyone in the class. Murrey seems to always put together go records also so they can't be overlooked. OCC did get the hammer laid to them in the finals but they return a good portion, actually a great portion, of their team. Green Co. returns 7 offensive starters and 9 defensive starters from last years team, offensive line play will be the key because they lost both guards, tackle, and TE. In the East NCC has to be favorite after there performance this weekend but they do lose 13 senoirs but they seem to reload. You also have Somerset who returns talent, LCA, and Danville who has that stud RB/FS returning as well. Don't know much about PBurg, sure someone on this site can feel me in, but they usually seem to field a team very capable of beating some teams.
3A my guess would be Central. Bell will give Central a good game in the regional and PT could in the Semi's but I just don't think anyone can match the speed they will put out on the field. In the East Belfry and Breathitt Co. would be my 2 favorites.
4A Maybe if Boyle had this years team I could see them stoping Highlands but can't see it happening. The West in 4A I could see Lone Oak making a return trip to the state finals.
5A they set it up where BG has it's best shot to make it to the state final being in their backyard. But they have Christian Co. and John Hardin out to contend with them. In the east I would guess Harlan Co. or Pulaski Co.

4A will by far be the most competitive. It'll tough but I'm pulling for my Rebels!

Don't overlook Raceland in 2011 coming out of the East.
Notre Dame Football…GO IRISH

Didn't mean to overlook Raceland but in the past 3 season only LCA has reallt challenged them and they've moved up in classification

I've gotta say I love seeing Harlan County picked and I am a believer. We lose some very talented linemen that will be very difficult to replace. Calton was the best DE I have seen since Tony Massey...lol. Hensley at center carried on the family tradition on the front line. Owens and Eldridge were also very good.

Something I have seen since Larkey arrived in HC is Linemen just keep getting stronger and stronger. If history repeates HC could very well go. I would not be shocked to see Tucker Lewis moved to OL while maintaining his LB position, and if that happens he could be the best OL in Harlan County since George Massey.

My godness I could go on and on...If we can develope 5 linemen that improve and mix a throw in here and there....MMMM future looks good in Harlan.

I hope so as well, but the Boyle, Lex-Cath, Mercer, Marion district will be a killer. Good chance the winner of that district is in the state championship hunt.

Who set it up? I think the KHSAA made all their changes based on enrollment and travel expenses. I don't think there was a big conspiricy so Bowling Green would make the finals, although the possibility of Bell County having to go to Central and possibly Paducah in the playoffs is ridiculous.

Well putting Bell Co. in the Western part of state kind of shots that travel expenses argument to ****!!! Not meaning to say anything specific about Bowling Green I just know from a attendance and money standpoint having a Bowling Green team in the finals will be great for the KHSAA. Look at all the fans ACS brought to the game.

I didn't say the KHSAA did a good job. I certainly agree it helps attendance if a local team makes it to the finals.

In all honeslty I think the state championship is 10 times better in BG than Louisville
#28
I think it will. I hope it stays for a long time.

All of you people are wrong about the east side of 5A , keep your eye on Anderson County.
this team stayed with the number 2 team in 5A John Hardin the whole game but lost 28 to24.
They have all of their players returning except for a few lineman, but they are a lot better and has a great chance to win the state title in 5A

Tucker was prepping to be our fullback last year, I look for the same in the future. Just talk i've heard is Whitehead will move to Calton's spot, he filled in nicely for Tucker this year they would be a force playing together at LB. Replacing Hensley at center will be a chore. We have always had Eldridge, Calton, and Owens so who knows if we can replace them! But the staff has done a nice job of reloading. The Cooper kid will be a force.
And while we are talking replacements there will never be another Dylon Smith!
