I didn't see a thread on this, so I thought I'd start one. If the past is any indication, it could be announced this week (or might not).
Who do you all think will win it?
I haven't seen enough of the top contenders to make an overly educated prognostication, but from the things I've heard and read, I'm guessing it might be DeVonte Parker.

Boyle Co Lamar Dawson is in contention, and Ireally think Hazard John Combs should get a vote. His numbers are one of the best in the state.

Lamar Dawson is the front runner.
Josh Forrest of Paducah Tilghman had an awesome season as well and wouldn't surprise me if he won. Even in defeat he was still spectacular as he had over 200 yards receiving against Louisville Central. Forrest won several games with his clutch plays on offense, defense, or returning kicks.

Has Dawson committed yet? If he had already committed to UK the award would be locked up. The media can say what they want, but they are partial to Wildcat commits.
Thats ok though, I am too.

He would be crazy to go to UK from some of the college that is looking at him. I don't know how he can trun them other teams down. UK don't want to put any money into the football program, some of the other school that is looking at him. Put more money into the football program then the other sports.

Dawson will win the award because hes a highly sout after recruit. They will be several names get mentioned but its already in the book in my opinion.

I heard on ESPN that Oregon is looking at him, and him to come out to look around.

UK would be a good fit they have had a few phenomenal linebackers the past couple years i.e micah J and wesley w

I have never seen Parker play, and I have seen Dawson play several times. So I would have to give it to him.

Lamar Dawson has already taken a visit to Oregon back in October. They flew him out west for the Stanford game that was on national TV. Next week he goes to Florida for a official visit, than on to Michigan, USC, and Tennessee in January. These 5 schools, UK and UL are his 7 he has gotten the list down to.

L. Dawson hands down. I hope this youngman has good guidance with his choice of college. He can play at a much higher level than Kentucky. Yes it is the SEC, but they are at the bottom of the SEC. . I believe if he stays in state, Louisville maybe the better choice.

It seems a bit odd to me that a primarily defensive player would be the front runner. That doesn't happen a lot.

Does anyone know if he I'd going to run track this year?

That I know of Lamar does not run on the track team. He throws the shot put and won the 2A State Title in that event last year. He only has to throw in 4 meets to become eligiable for the Regional. I would assume he could do that and will not mess up anything for his future on football. This is only speculation on my part, but I do not see why he couldn't do track. Not everyone can we a State Title in a track event. That's pretty special in my book!

He's at a much better level than Kentucky but if he stays in state Louisville is the better choice? When did Louisville become such a better program? How would they even be at a higher level than Kentucky?

Is there a player of the year for each class?

Doesn't matter who you cheer for no denying how good a defensive Coach Strong is, and how good a coach Strong and staff are in general. Bial Powell went from a no name to one of the best RB in the Country. And Coach Strongs forte is coaching LB's and has put several in the NFL. With Chuck Smith at UK and his ties to Boyle and all the coaches there if he doesn't pull Dawson he maybe let go.

Lamar Dawson hands down. To big a recruit and talent not to be Mr. Football.
12-02-2010, 11:45 AM
Lamar isn't the favorite to win Mr. Football. Devonte Parker is.
Finally some people that I agree with. Lamar needs to get out of this state and play college football at a much higher level than at UK and UL. If it doesn't work out at Oregon or Florida or elsewhere then transfer back in state. Both schools would take him still I bet.
I am hearing if he stays in state he will go to UL. He really likes Charlie Strong a lot. Chuck Smith never coached Lamar and the only thing they have in common is that that they both have a ring that says Boyle County and State Champions on it. I doubt that if Chuck is let go it is because he didn't land Lamar.
I hope he goes to a big BCS school to have an opportunity to help a team win. UK and UL will never be big time winners in college football.

Just remember where Strong was when these players went to the NFL. Strong has not proved anything at UL. They're in a terrible conference to begin with and UL is no better off than Uk. Matter of fact, for years now UK has been the much better program. And I say they'll still be for a few more years at least.
And, by no means am I saying the best choice is UK. If the kid is that good I certainly don't blame him for going to one of the big time programs and leaving UK out. But that being said, he needs to leave UL out just the same. I wish the kid nothing but the best and hope he makes to the big time. Whether he does or not is another question but I'll be pulling for him to do so. Just don't go to UL.

Strong has only been there one year.

Just spoke with a Mr. Football voting journalist who said that Parker will get his vote unless Dawson does something this weekend to earn his vote. He also said that he doesn't know if Parker will get enough votes statewide to get Mr. Football. Based off of that information and seeing as how Eastern and Western Kentucky voters have seen Lamar I can say that he could be the front runner and that his chances to win Mr. Football are lot better than I thought.

If Lamar does stay in state, I can see arguments for UL and UK. UK is in the better conference and has steadily made bowl games, but they'll likely never make a BCS game while he's there. Charlies Strong is a promising young, defensive coach on the rise. UL is in the weaker conference, thus UL has a better chance of making a bowl game in the next 4 years.

If I had a vote, it would be DeVante Parker. He put up unreal numbers and he played with two different QBs all season long, rotating in and out.
The two highest rated players in the state are Dawson and Jon Davis at Eastern and I wouldn't pick either of them for Mr. Football. Dawson, probably in the top three (with DaMarcus Smith at Seneca and Parker).
