Since we are in the playoffs, do you think the refs let the kids play and get away with stuff or do you think the refs call the games close and not tolerate any "extra curricular" behavior from the get go?
I think the refs have and will throughout the rest of the playoffs call the games close and will want to set the tone from the outset of the game. The KHSAA hates the negative publicity created by fights in games and since the KHSAA assigns the refs for the playoff games, my guess, and it's just a guess, is that the KHSAA instructs the refs to call it close.
On another site, it was reported that there was a fight in one of last week's playoff games in the western region of the state and a lot of players were ejected. That couldn't have made the KHSAA happy.
Do others agree with my thinking as to how the refs have called the playoff games to date this year and will call the rest of the games?

IMO it doesn't matter as long as they call the game even for both sides. What will make one side furious is if the calls are one sided. Just be consistent is all I hope for.

At this point only the best of the best officials are going to be calling. Id say no extra curricular activity's will go unpunished. Also id say the games will be called tight from the opening kickoff.

I say they need to call the game close especially to personnal foul type activity. The playoffs is the last game for one of the teams and emotions can run high when defeat sets in. Sometimes players that realize they aren't going to play next week may take it out on a player from the other team.

That's a great point, tradition. Hopefully all teams, regardless of whether they win or lose, do so with class and dignity and represent their schools well.

I just pray they use some class and call the games as they are and not what they "think" they are! Be truthful in the calls, be consistent, and above all.... be fair!

To be totally honest, I think it comes down to the official. I graduated in '09. and towards the end of my high school senior season, I knew at least 75% of the officials that refereed our games. I also knew their PERSONAL traits on making calls (i.e. more/less holding calls, pass interference calls, and things like that).
I think the officials do the best they can ( for the most part), but i know that no official is going to be the same as another. So as far as predicting whether or not the officiating in general will be tight/loose....I dont know.

I think close, and consistant.the games should be called fairly.one of the worst things in world is for a bunch of high school seniors season to end over bad calls in a playoff game.those are memories theyll carry with em the rest of thier lives.

A certain someone that came into Fort Thomas last Friday should have taken this advice.
As for the calling of the games, I don't want to see any crap like this not get penalized:
(I'm referring to the moment about 14 seconds in.)

I think in football everything should be called anyway.
Basketball refs have a little room for judgement.
Football games should basically call themselves.

Remember that play well. It happened last year against Johnson Central. I believe a penalty was called but #77 could have been seriously injured. Fortunately for him he wasn't injured and continues to play football for Thomas More College.

That could have been the most egregious personal foul I've ever seen in any football game. That kid should have been arrested for that cheap shot.
