I wouldn't bash them too much. If I was some people I would take notes, because what they do is perfectly legal and the smart thing to do.

A 13 year old 8th grade boy is not the most mature thing in the world, boys should be 15 in 8th and 19 when they graduate.

Instead of bashing them give your kid the best chance to succeed by doing what they do.

I take it that some of that was meant for me, so here is my response. First off and most importantly, there were smilies around my post, meaning it was a joke and was meant to be funny. Secondly, I know from first hand that one of the players actually drove to one of the middle school games in football this year, ( I seen him get out of the car). Does this seem like the smart thing to do? Let a more maturer young man(16) in the eight grade, who has atleast failed several grades or has had to be held back for what ever reason play in a sport against 13 year old children who stated school at the proper age and moved on from grade to grade without having to be held back seem right to you? If so, I believe some people need to get their priorities straight. It would be giving these young adults the idea that it is OK to fail in the class room as long as do good in sports. That is not the idea that I'm going to give to my two children. My children started school at the age of 5 in kindergarden, the age that has been acceptable from the beginning of school IMO, the age that would put them at 13 by the time they reach 8th grade, not 15 or 16. It is not fair to them to have to play against older kids because they achieved in the classroom. IMO when you are old enough to vote(18), then you should atleast have a job or be in College, not still in high school playing children games. We as adults need to set the example and not be incouraging the wrong ideas. Again, it was meant as a joke, and if I affended anyone, I apoligize. It was in bad taste. I fill that I, as an adult took a bad shot at a child(none in particular). Instead of encourageing them to excell in the classroom.

I do not know these kids personally but from what I here they are good students and several of them make straight A's. I will keep my kids back. I think kids that graduate at age 17 or even 18 are not ready for the real world. As far as kids competing against kids this age...all parents have to make a choice and I will not judge them for the choices they make. Here in Floyd County this has went on for years but not so many in one class. Choose what is right for your young-un and stand by your decision but do not judge what other parents do.:Geek:

If a kid from Virgie drove to a football game then that means he was 16 for at least six months, and turned 16 towards the end of 7th grade, and even saying that is preposterous..There would be no point in that kid even being in school because I think you can only go until a certain age...So you're telling me that that kid would be 20 his whole senior year and turn 21 at the end? C'mon give me a break...If somone from Virgie actually knows this is a fact and can post it then I would maybe believe it...

As far as kids being 18 and needing to have a job or in college, most high school seniors are 18 the whole year, or most of the year..I'd say 85% of high school seniors in most schools are at least 18...So maybe you should forget that theory of yours, because nobody would be playing "children" games if there were no 18 year olds...

Exactly, well said.....

My post was aimed at no one, just put out there because I get tired of people saying they beat us because they are older, bigger, stronger. Most parents can do something about that...............YMCA has rec leagues if you don't want to run with the Big Dogs.

And Virgie has no one thats 16 that I know off.....and they are our arch nemisis

Does Belfry have a kid named Struthers? I heard he was pretty good. What position does he play? Is he a local or a West Virginia kid? Could his dad bring him to Allen Central............:big grin: just joking!

I applaud Virgie's parents for holding their kids back. I don't know what their exact reasoning is, but regardless, it is a good move for their children. Kids aren't ready for college or the real world at the age of 18. According to our government, they are ready to vote, go to war, go to work, but not ready to consume an alcoholic beverage responsibly. That ought to tell you something right there.

Lets look at the advantages of kids who graduate 19 years old and the disadvantages.

Advantage - They are more physically mature, more mentally mature, and they get an extra year of guidance from their parents & high school teachers. And anyone who has been to college will tell you that college educaters don't care near as much about your child's education as a high school teacher does.

Disadvantages - There are NONE. Unless a parent thinks having their child at home an extra year is a bad thing.

I'm sure we all no someone who has been held back for one reason or another. Ask them if what they did was right. I guarantee that no one will say it is the wrong thing to do.

As a matter of fact, I'm still waiting for someone on here to tell me why you shouldn't hold your kid back. It hurts nothing, and helps in a lot of different ways.

If parents really want to keep a kid back for true maturity reasons- why not hold the kid out of school a year. Let them start kindergarten at age 6 not 5.

Because most parents are in a hurry to get their kids into school so the wife can go to work. Which, I can relate to somewhat. If I didn't have family around to watch my children while my wife & I work, it would be pointless for my wife to have a job.

Day-care is expensive as heck, unless you refuse to work and then the state pays for it.

I know for a fact no athlete at Virgie Middle is even close to sixteen and yeah they have a couple of hold backs but as some posts read why no kid is ready for the real world at 17, barely 18 so why not give your kid a chance to mature
#25
It is a parent decision

It is legal

It benefits the child

Nuff Said!!!!
