Johnson Central's JJ Jude
#1
Anxious to hear what people say. Lots people say a big chunk of his yards are from his coach padding the stats. To be honest, I don't care. Cut his numebers in half and he's had a heckuva season.

But how does he compare to some of EKYs best from the past 10-20 years?

There might have been a couple games where the coach padded his stats, but tonight he proved that he is the real deal. IMO he proved it last year as a sophomore. The kid is a beast for his size and he has a motor that will not quit.

As for comparing him to EKY's best over the last 10-20 years. It's hard to say hen you throw in the factors that the competition levels have changed so much in the last 20 years. There have been some dang good backs from EKY in that time. A bunch that alot of people say if they played in this day and time, they would be high school All-Americans. I'm not even gonna start to name the one's Ive seen play, it would take to long to think of em and type em out, lol.

Just wondering if anyone knows what schools are recruiting this kid. I've only seen him Play 3 or 4 games but from what Ive see and his stat lines from each game, many D1 schools should be taking a look. Any info?
#4
I have no idea, id think there some d2 schools looking at him, maybe a d1, his size may bring him down a little bit.
I'd like to know some of the records this kid has got to be close to getting too.
I know one hes got, the most threads over a single player on bgr! lol
He's a good one.

Jude is also ranked among the top wrestlers nationally in his weight class by some experts and I have heard that he has received attention from some D1 wrestling programs. If he does as well in wrestling the next two years as expected, he is going to have plenty of options available to him for college.

He has to bring home a trophy first..... if he can do that then I think he has to be right at the top, if not THE top. He is having perhaps the greatest single season in mountain history statistically and considering the competition.

Yes he is!

This kid is amazing! I hope Jude thanks his lineman after every game. Because without them, he gets half. Which is still incredible. And I'm not taking nothing away from him because he is one of the greatest if not the greatest RB I've ever seen! But it all starts with the O-Line.

Congrats Jude, you are absolutely amazing!:notworthy

Like I said in another thread. If he continues next season. GOTTA be considered for Mr. football next year!

Ok. But how doe she compare to other great EKY backs?

Michael West - Lawrence Co.
Shawn Robbins - Bell Co.
Marty Raegan - Rockcastle
Channing Fugate - Breathitt
Josh Gross - Russell
Kasey Clark - Russell
Doug Howard - Belfry
David Jopnes - Belfry
Arliss Beach - Ashland
Brent Coleman - Pikeville
Steven Bailey - Pikeville
Quenton Henson - Lynn Camp
Scotty Russell - Evarts

I'm sure I left some out, but how does Jude compare to those guys, for starters.

Who is this kid? Is he the next Shaun Alexander? Haven't seen him play. Is it worth a trip next Friday night?
#11
Yes it's worth the trip to Johnson Co on Friday night.
Next year JJ will be considered top back in the state and mention to Mr. Football.

I think this year JC has there chance to bring home a Regional Title and a State Championship.

I would compare him to Michael West of LC, IMO they run the exact same way.

Congrats to Jude and his teams accomplishments this year.

I think last night against CovCath he reached 3000 rushing yards.

This is true, his coach has done this but he is still an elite back
#14
WOW! 3000 rushing yards in a season? Is anyone else even close?
#15
he is amazing no way is he as fast as davenport but he is close enough what makes him so tuff is if this kid can't out run you he will just run over you
#16
How big is this boy? Is he being recruited?
#17
JJ is currently at 3100 yards for the season. He needs 269 more yards to break the single-season rushing mark.

Is that for another state record?

Corey Lyle from Greenup over 2000 some, but they were beat first round in the playoffs, so now, not really anyone is close to him.

Bringing home a trophy dosen't make him a better back than he already is.
For his size, he's probably the best back that I've seen in quiet some time in the mountains or anywhere in the state. There are backs that are faster, but it seems those backs are smaller in stature. JJ has enough speed to get to the hole and is strong enough to take on the linebackers and win most of the time. JJ is the type player that you need to see before he graduates in 2012. Worth the price of admission.

I didn't get to see the 1st quarter of their game against Cov Cath last night but it seemed like he rushed for 3000 yards in 3 quarters against the Colonels.

It doesn't make him "better", but it makes him more quantifiable. There is no larger scale in the state than the State Championship game. A career without a State Championship game appearance, let alone a trophy, cannot be ignored when making an argument for Jude. As a fan of EKY football I hope he earns that shot this year, let alone next year.

Right now I would agree with putting him on the elite level with a Michael West, Arliss Beach, Quenton Henson, Brent Coleman, and Shawn Robbins. To get to the level of a Steve Bailey, Doug Howard, or even a Scotty Russell (Mr. Football winner) is going to require that next step of either leading the Eagles to a title or winning Mr. Football.

I've got this game on my radar. Try to see one of the top games each week, or at least the top players. JJ sounds like a must see.

Several weeks ago we had posters doubting JJ's talent when he broke the state record. I the think they all see now the kid is for real and deserves to be taken serious.

JJ has the speed to accelerate to the line and hit the hole hard. If there is no hole there he can run over you. If the hole is there he can bust through it, move laterally to dodge tacklers and burn down the field. Not many backs can do all the above.

The great thing about JJ is he has started since a Freshman on defense and to my knowlege started in every high school game he has played. What alot of poeple do not realize, JJ is an outstanding defensive back and while he is putting up big rushing numbers, he is playing awesome defense, this makes him special.

 Good Point.

I've seen great O-Lines make a above average back look like an All American, and I've also seen great backs suffer because of a sub-par O-Line.

 Great post but you forgot to mention that Jude can also drag several players at a time down the field with him if they can hang on for the ride.

Oh yes the offers will start pouring in after the next 2 years.

I'm sure the D-1 coaches will say he's too small to play RB in college. He's probably 5-10, 170 or so. Could he play as a WR, DB, or kick return specialist? Absolutely. Could he be a Derek Abney-type player in the right scenario? I think so.

His future's probably better in wrestling, though. He's All-American caliber there.
#29
He is just a junior right? This would be the year that he would get offers or letters. Next year will be the serious stuff. If he is good, he will get a lot of letters this year. Next year those drop off and the offers go to others. He almost needs to really narrow it down this year and express interest in where he wants to go because it will begin to evaporate real quick next year.

JJ is a good back but he is about the 4th best back in the mountains
1. Davenport Bell
2. Smith Middlesboro
3. Canady Knox
4 Jude
