Coach Salary Question
#1
What do the coaches make at all levels in your county? Just curious.

Perry Central High - I say they pay him 12 to 15,000.
What do the assisants make at the HS level at PCC?
Middle School at PCC?
Do the coaches 6th and below get anything?

I'd just like to see what they do in the rest of the state compared to Perry.

Floyd County 4,500.00 HS Head Coach

1,500.00 Asst. Coach

Middle School 1,500.00 Head Coach

Asst. Coach 0
#3
most around Northern Ky between 6000-10,000 for Head coach (MOST AT THE LOWER END)
around 2000 generally for varsity assistant less for lower level. But it varies by district. Should be found on most public school websites under supplemental salary scale, it is part of the public records
#4
I think most schools still view sports as an extracurricular activity and pay around 1500.00 - 2500.00. Assistants are around the 500.00 range.
#5
Pretty sure most 6th and below are volunteer only, could be wrong?

This is correct. However don't they have another option that adds days onto their teacher contracts?
#7
Public school coaches have a max that they can earn in KY.
None of them are compensated for an insane amount of money.

Leslie Co...

Head Coach (High School) $9000

Rockcastle County:

Head Coach: $9,181
Assistant (5): $3,264
Paraprofessional Assistant football coach (2): $2,244

Not bad to have 7 paid assistant coaches Big Grin

What is REALLY sad is that Christi Noble, (one of the best girls basketball coaches around) is paid THE SAME as the boys coach, who may possibly be the worst coach in the 12th Region.

I don't know if it is because of Title 9 or some legality, but it is a shame.

When I coach middle school in the county I paid my assistant $500.00 out of my own pocket. I also bought all the footballs, belts, mouth pieces, and ice. After our last game one season, we went to Renos to eat. The school paid half, and I paid half.

When I coached middle school in the county we didn't.

I'd say that John DeRossett's pay at Prestonsburg is supplement or at least it should be. I know when I was at Paris Middle Randy Reese's pay was supplement at the high school by the boosters club.
#15
Looks like Leslie County (A poor district) puts more money into their football program than Perry Central does. Not a good thing.
#16
No Coach DeRossett's pay isn't supplement. It's a shame that a coach of his caliber makes as little as he does. He could go many other places and make probably double what he does at P-burg (total salary) but that will never happen, the man loves Blackcat Football too much.

Madison Southern High school, in berea,ky. Is the highest paid job in the state. They Pay 15 grand plus 50 extra work days. For a team who never wins, thats pretty remarkable....

Wonder what Highlands coach is making. lol

I believe $10K may be the cap for what a coach can make strictly from a contracted head coaching position. But then there are typically other incidental titles that they can get as well, such as Strength Coach, that will net them another $1K.

Again, I believe there is a cap, but considering he is the AD, he is making more than his Coaching Salary.

I didn't realize that. I thought there was a state maximum regardless of tenure.

I know Dudley Hilton gets paid ALOT but dont know the exact number.
#23
Dudley gets $30,000.00 as coach, athletic director and he has about 2 AE classes and 1 PE/weightlifting. He overseas each day. He draws his retirement. He just started doing that last year. before that he was around 75,000 with everything, but he has 35 years in.

So Dudley Hilton gets $35,000.00 for Head Coach, Athletic Director, and 2 AE classes and 1 PE/Weightlifting on top of being retired teacher.

If this is the same Christi that I went to high school with, she is a class act! Great person with a great personality who def. knows the game!

A lot of schools have great booster clubs. I know Bowling Green does. I don't know the rules, but you don't keep coaches like Coach Wallace by paying them next to nothing and you can't build great programs without booster support.
#26
I am suprised no one has mentioned it but Matney's salary has had alot of rumors surrounding it in the past. I have heard he is paid over 90k a year in total compensation.
#27
Some coaches make much more with supplements/stipends from booster clubs.
#28
It is also against the law for a "Booster Club" to supplement or pay coaches. Look it up .... If any schools are doing it or get caught doing it ... there will be no joy in Mudville.
#29
I thought that's the way it was set up...it's just never enforced unless you want to get someone in trouble.

The rumor I have heard is that he is the highest paid HS football coach in the state.

That is ONE of the reasons I thought that Belfry would never be able to lure him away from Central. The other reason is the old "who wants be the man who follows THE MAN" issue. Matney has built a fantastic program at Central, and he is the king of Johnson County. If he were to go to Belfry, he would have to compete with the legend of Coach Haywood.
