Not a fan of these types of threads, because like someone else mentioned, it's all a matter of opinion and a biased one at that. So from a unbiased point of view:
I'll take Jude.
Size, speed, vision, etc, etc, etc.

I do like Cory D being 22-2 as a starter though so far.... Just like Blackcat said. Its just opinions and biased decisions.

Blackcat just curious. Have you seen Davenport play live yet? For than matter, have you even seen Jude play live? Just a question, not a statement to start to get anything started....

Good Lord I butchered that post up. Have you seen both/either play?

Blackcat, turn this into a poll.

I've seen Jude live, but I seen Davenport via Wazoo Sports vs. Madison Central.

Last season, Davenport averaged about a yard more a carry. However, you have to realize that JC runs Jude a lot up the middle in short yardage situations.
Yards per carry is not everything when you are comparing running backs. Who would you rather give the ball to in an obvious 4th down running situation where you only needed a couple of yards? (Assuming both had the same lineman and backs blocking for them.)
Davenport's speed is an advantage in the open field but Jude's strength makes him a more versatile runner.
Same could be said that Davenport's speed and being so elusive makes him more versatile. And, his strenght is vastly underrated...... I'll take Davenport for my money..... But Jude is one heck of a running back and possibly will go farther in football (college as Davenport.)
Two outstanding running backs! Would love to have either one of them on my team.
And can I add, Davenport's rushing stats would be more than Jude if he ran the ball as much as Jude. But again, I'll take either one of them. As far as that goes, I'll take them over any other running backs in the state. These are two special players to say the least.

Heads - Jude
Tails - Davenport
That's how close it is for me choosing one or the other. I'd take which ever one you give me. Great backs!

Matney is a big believer in wrestling being the best off season conditioner for football players, and I fully agree. I doubt that there is a running back in the state who is in better condition than J. J. Jude, who plays both ways and gets few breathers when the game is on the line. What do you think Jude's numbers would look like if he only played offense?

Davenport

Both are great backs running in two different systems. In case either read this, lets just say both are outstanding. No poster on this site including myself is recruiting for a major college so who cares. I feel both can get a free college education with their abilities and that is the best comparision.
11-01-2010, 07:52 AM
Give them both props...Both are awesome backs but I have to take Jude in this one...Sorry, just because Bell is the better team and won over JC doesnt mean it is because the RB is better...The entire team is involve in that issue...But like i said in another post..4.4 in pads on the field..I have to see it to freak'n believe it...

I watched the Bell /Johnson Central game: Davenport will be the better college prospect, much better moves in open field. Both are outstanding players

Jude is the better player.

i would have to say davenport i think he's the fastest kid i have seen in a long time if not the fastest ever at bell county his vision done field is unreal with that being said jude is also amasing people can get on here and say what they wan't but he is not as fast as davenport not even close but the one thing jude has is heart and you can't teach that he has to be one of the toughfest kids i have ever seen just think if you had those two in the backfield at the bourderbowl

Give one away to take another with all of that philosophy. And I can't say I disagree with any of it but if Davenport ran the ball twice as much, YES, he would have twice the yardage.
Jude would have a better yards per carry if you take away short yardage downs just like anyone else would. But, he would not have near the yardage he has if it wasn't for running the ball so much. That's common sense.
I'm not taking one thing away from Jude because he is a GREAT back, but give Davenport that amount of carries and he might still be running.
And someone mentioned speed. Anyone that is honest that seen the two play will tell you Davenport is definitely faster. That you should never be in the discussion to say Jude is as fast or faster....

There is no way to tell when one player is faster than the other from watching them..Timing is all you can go by...Heck i ran a 4.5 my senior year but i didnt look like it cause i ran like a d*** deer..Some one that is short and quick look faster than they actually are..So yes it actually can be a discussion on the speed of jude and davenport......But neither is a 4.3-4.4 on the field like everyone says...

Great running backs score on great defenses. Jude has had not 1 BUT 2 games to score on Bell. Jude touched the ball plenty and never found the goal line against the bobcats including his touches against Bell's second team D.
Find the best Defense that Davenport has ran against and he has scored on it. Probably more than once.

You can't possibly compare two players based on the outcome of one game. Davenport of course was going to have a better game because he is on a much better team. Davenport has one of the best Offensive lines in the state and the skill plalyers at every position for Bell County are much better than Johnson Central's skill players. Also, Bell County's defense is one of the best in the state and this was proven last week at Harlan County.
I will give you an example of why you can't compare two backs based on one game. Last year Breathitt County's Channing Fugate gained only 10 yards against Sheldon Clark at the Rock. Sheldon's Clark's featured back had a much better game as far as statistics than Channing did. So would you say based on one game that Sheldon Clark's running back was better than Channing!! Not even close!!!. This is why you can't compare two running backs based on head to head competition because Bell County is totally on another level compared to Johnson Central. JJ Jude is no doubt the most talented back in the mountains.

Yes there is a way. And Davenport is faster.
Go ahead and throw running times in there which I'm sure you'll dismiss. It is what it is. Glad you know that they can't run that fast on the field. Just because you couldn't or someone else as well doesn't mean they can't.
And you running like a deer you didn't like because you ran a 4.5? I run like a ******* but I'll take a 4.5 any day. I'll take a 5.0 as far as that goes.lol
And maybe they are smaller than you but looking fast and being fast in this case is true. These two are legit....

I was sort of buying into your philosophy until the dumb remark at the end. Please tell me the definitive reason/reasons that Jude is the most talented back in the mountains....
You tell people not to judge by this or that, which I agree with. But then, you come out with a remark you can't back up with anything. Your words won't cut it. Prove it scientifically. You can't. Your post is no different than any others when you come with these unfounded and unprovened statements.

First of all my reference was to 2 games not 1. You mentioned bell co's defense is good and that was my point in the earlier post. GREAT running backs score on GREAT defenses. I agree that your overall comparisson of 2 players can't be based on the OUTCOME of 1 game or 2 games for that matter. I was not talking about the outcome I was talking about the performance by the individual.

Easy "M" in one of your previous post you stated "Jude is one heck of a running back and possibly will go farther in football (college as Davenport.)"
So you think Davenport is a better back/athlete than Jude but you think Jude will go farther in his college career. This absolutely makes no sense to me. Since my statements are so "dumb" and "I can't back them up" please elaborate on the above statement you posted earlier. One would think the individual who would have a better college career would be the better player/athlete but what do I know. Both young men are no doubt two of the best running backs in the state and in no way am I trying to put Davenport down in anyway but I feel Jude is the superior back due to his "toughness"
Easy M "toughness" is my definitive reason why Jude is the best running back in the mountains.
