Who is the best quarterback in the mountains?
#31
I like watching JK Hall for JC. He's the best running qb in eastern KY.
#32
Zach Eastham -Pulaski County
#33
Trent from Breathitt is better then ppl give him credit for. he has a Micheal Vick Kinda of Game about him. expect Vick is a Lefty.
#34
Erik Manning from Somerset has to be in the Top 5 somewhere. He is 23-1 as a starter over the last 2 seasons. This year he is 84-142 for a 59% completion percentage. He's thrown for 1764 yards with 22 Touchdowns and 2 Interceptions. He's also ran the ball 53 times for 435 yards and 4 Touchdowns.
#35
Hands down it's Ben Madon from bell county. Someone mentioned that he would have bigger numbers in a different offense and I believe that is true but Ben is not worried about big numbers he is worried about leading his team to the end zone and not turning the ball over. He has done both of those things extremely well since he has been the bobcats QB. I don't see how anyone could argue that Madon is the best QB prospect in the mountains.

nathan martin from betsy layne may not have that big of numbers, but i think its because BL usually runs the ball, but when it comes time to throw, martin can usually find his reciever which is hard considering there are usually only 2 recievers which are usually double teamed. i remember a recent game where he was 2-5 and had 100yrds passing. if betsy layne threw a little more im sure he could be a great QB, hes not that bad of a runner too.

I like crisp from P burg, boggs is sorta overrated he hasnt put up BIG stats against belfry or sheldon clark...(actual teams) but he is good, and will get better. which is scary to believe

I have seen both Boggs and Crisp play; both are good and I think both are juniors, so they have an opportunity to put big numbers up again next year.

Dungy Wrote:Kid from Harlan (Saragas) deserves mentioning; twice the yards and TD's as the Betsy Layne qb and similar stats to Wilson from Clay. Not downgrading anyone else in any fashion, just browsing the stats on the state website and trying to pick out some local names.

Saragas as just a Sophmore has a chance to be one of the all time leading passers at Harlan. I think I saw he has over 1500 yds throwing this year? Outstanding!

So even though Manning beat Eastham in a head to head matchup and the Briar Jumpers made the State Finals last year you're still going to say Eastham is "hands down" the best quarterback? Eastham is great but 24-1 as a starter speaks for itself. Who else from the mountains has done that? Madon, perhaps? He's a great quarterback. Eastham may not be the best quarterback in his own county.....but you did post nice pictures.

I do believe that Manning is one of the best but to say he beat him head to head is little misleadning. Eastham went into that game playing running back, most of his practice time was at running back. Muse the starting QB but tore his ACL in that game and Zach was the back up, and he came up 5 yds short of making this a moot point. So who's to say that if Zach had a week of preparation for that at QB, he wouldn't beat them? I don't the answer but I do know is that Somerset won. And I know that Eastham is a better quarterback than Manning. The proof are in the skills, not the records.

You must have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Check out the second page of today's high school notebook, toward the bottom.

you need to watch the Hawks a little more closely because he only had 3 TD's

I still like my QB in Ben Madon from Bell Co...11 TD's to only 1 INT. Very accurate passer.

I hope last nights win over P-BURG showed some of the things that this kid can do.ALAN BOGGS is a JR this year, he's only going to improve. The HAWKS is going to the playoffs and these games will show everyone how good this PCC team is.He has the size, speed, cannon for an arm and accurate.
#55
Boggs from PCC is the best i've seen this year (which is nearly limited to teams Pburg has played). But Crisp from Pburg has to be on there, he has put up very good stats and has WON FOOTBALL GAMES, which is what it all comes down to. Having talented WR's never hurts either.. :eyeroll:

Eastham does go up against 5A competition every week except a few where as Manning goes up against 3A competition every week with a couple exceptions and District 5 in 3A has to be on the weakest Districts in 3A if not THE weakest! which I am not trying to take anything away from Manning's accomplishments but Eastham goes up against better competition and you saying that he may not even be the best QB in his county is just absurd IMO.

I agree CRISP is also a good QB and young.P-BURG had short passes open all night, don't know why they did't exploit that. The PCC HAWKS does have awesome WR'S(SOMETIMES OVER LOOKED),they may drop a few but not very many and they are fast.I honestly think P-BURG will go a long ways in the playoffs.GOOD LUCK TO ALL AREA TEAMS AND HOPE THEY STAY INJURY FREE.

I'm not saying that Manning is necessarily the better quarterback, I just think the assertion that Eastham is the best hands down isn't true either. It is much closer than Eastham being "hands down" the best.

And as far as the 3A schedule vs 5A schedule? Are you trying to tell me that Pulaski's District is all that tough? They have only played 2 good 5A teams this season. Here are the 5A teams they have faced: South Laurel 0-10, Barren County 2-8,Mercer County 3-7, Lincoln County 4-6, Southwestern 6-4 and Harlan County 8-2. That schedule isn't exactly murderer's row.

Eastham is a great quarterback and he's probably got the build to be more of a prospect at the next level but strictly talking about high school the two are closer than you think.
