Also according to another site GC is advertising for teams billing themselves as a 3A school with a 1A team. Doesnt seem to me that they are looking to improve the schedule any. If you are looking for a good competitive game why not keep the Rams on the schedule? Not to mention the money your going to make on the gate.
I will give the Rams credit. By going out and getting Lawrence on the schedule they sure have upgraded their schedule. They may end up having a overall tougher schedule than the Muskies.

That's the most untrue dumbest thing I've heard in awhile.

I hate to see this great rivalry game end. It always brought out lots of fans and was a good money maker for both teams. As long as the competition was friendly and all in good fun things were great. Now that Greenup has beat Raceland two years in a row the mud has been slung pretty far and wide, from the coaching staff to the players and fans.
Except for the money, why would Greenup want to play Raceland? If they win, they get no credit..just a lot of whining and complaining about a big 4A school picking on a little 1A school type comments. If they lose, well then of course GC isn't any good...etc. What is in it for the team? Nothing except dollars. Maybe a nice two year break will allow some of the fans to cool off a little and realize it is just a football game...One that takes place between neighboring schools, one that many families have ties to on both sides.

Good Post
One thing I'll miss is Greenup fans and Raceland fans going for each other throats every game even when their not playing each other. What are we going to do now? OH wait we both still got Russell I say their threads next year will get interesting.

Yeah it's a great amosphere til after the game and the players get into fights with each other and do things they regret!

Except for the money; it is a game that the players enjoy playing each other I am not for sure you can put a price tag on that. You are saying no mud was flung when Raceland won two years in a row. I remeber in the 07 game Greenup had several ejections, and the mud really flew. I don't blame Coach Copely if he wants to change the direction of his program (rumor is he wants to play more mountain teams), but some one should tell us that and move on, not have the state thinking we are a buch of rubes that can't get along. I am for all three Greenup County Schools and their teams.

FACTS are that Copley knows they will not beat Raceland the next few years. He won't be at Greenup that much longer anyway, he is already looking, THAT'S RIGHT! Can anybody really blame him with all the CRAP he has to put up with! I do agree he has brought some of it on himself, but, you have to give a young new coach a little extra time and the right to make mistakes now and then.

I think GC beats Raceland next season. Oh yeah, this game will be played next year. Dont believe everything you read in the paper.
10-20-2010, 11:51 AM
Was it the bgr outcray vs Copley or was it the gate money that caused the administration to show some balls?
10-20-2010, 12:14 PM
From what I understand when Copley was asked about it he blamed the administration for the dropping of Raceland. And then the article in paper was released and the administration was asked and they claim to have had no idea that Copley dropped Raceland. But that's all hearsay. Copley is a short timer his beloved break out season was a failure. He won't be there long. The administration jumped on him for it. They probably understand that and knows when he's gone people will still want this game on the schedule.
10-20-2010, 08:45 PM
Well that is just what i have been told and if raceland wants to play grrenup so bad dnt u think they would give copley time to find everything out and not give him an alta-matem i mean sure sounds like maynard isnt to set on playing greenup then either
10-20-2010, 09:21 PM
What does he need to find out? And Maynard wants it done as soon as possible so he isn't left with an open schedule that has to be filled last minute. There's several empty spots that need to be filled in. I think we have filled two empty spots with Lawrence and Mason.

Last minute??? :please: It is only mid October. The final district alignment was settled LAST WEEK. I think it is just Raceland wanting to stir the pot. Maynard could have given Greenup until the end of the month or some type of time frame before shooting his mouth off to the paper saying he would not play GC again as long as he was head coach. Did Copley say that?? NO.
Good luck with the Lawrence and Mason games...Raceland will get killed. I predict running clock in the first half and a lot of Raceland fans crying about how bigger schools picked on them, and are classless, etc.

Shutup and sign the contract. GC stands for Gutless Cowards.

There's a sentiment around here that Copley may not hang around for another season. I have no idea if that's true or not. However, if that is the case, I'd hate to leave those decisions that would affect the entire program for years to come to a guy who may not be here to see it happen. I say leave the scheduling up to the administration, as totally whacked as ours seems to be.

Raceland tends to always have their schedule done before the prior season is even over with. I'm not sure if its the same since Maynard took over. But that's the way it was done in the past. If you hold out you miss chances to schedule other teams you may have wanted. Maynard is tired of the Greenup antics and different coaches from year to year. Probably more so than others because he went through it himself. And you want to talk running clocks? How about the running clocks that was supposed to happen when we rescheduled Ashland a few years ago? I can tell you one running clock. That will be your first round in the playoffs this year and every year after that!

Word is that Coach Copley's reasoning was, that if he played Raceland he would not have but four home games. I was told that Raceland will play them at home(GC) the first year (2011), if they would just sign a two year home and home contract. With options and reasons not to play running out coach Copley okayed the deal. Keep in mind this is purely rumor that I heard from a guy who heard from a guy etc.
10-24-2010, 10:13 PM
Yeah it's true. Maynard gave Copley everything in the world to get the game on the schedule. I guess we can win there next year just as easily as we would at home.

Does anyone know who is on Racelands and Greenups schedule? The non District games
10-24-2010, 11:06 PM
Raceland still has week 4 open and offered to come to Greenup again, was willing to wipe the schedule clean and start all over to get Greenup to sign.. Had made arrangements with other schools to change dates to match up Greenups schedule, Say what you want, Maynard bent over backwards to sign Greenup, gave them every offer in the world, even heard multiple teams were willing to re-arrange their schedule to make this happen.... Maynard has all the respect in the world for the school and the Raceland community. Give him credit, he was willing to make his statement to the public rather than talk behind closed doors or posting on this site... His words were true and remain true to this day. Raceland wants to play Greenup and thats the botom line!!!

Most of the people I've talked to want to keep this rivalry going. This game means alot to both schools. I don't care were 4a and your 1a that don't matter this game is for the kids and they don't care. It doesn't matter if your a Ram or a Musketeer both of us look forward to this game. I just hope Maynard and Copley can work things out and wipe the slate clean for the sake of both programs
10-25-2010, 06:51 AM
Maynards slate is not dirty and nothing to wipe clean, the BLANK is ready for someone from GREENUP to sign, but you better hurry, Raceland is down to one spot left and I am sure that it will go very soon...... Like Kemo Sabbee says-"JUMP ON IT--JUMP ON IT"!!!.
Yes we need to play this or this is gonna turn into the LAPSE that Russell had with Raceland and not play for 30 years!!!!!

Let it lapse. Take a break from the melodrama.
If you dont play it many of those in orange will cry everybody is a afraid. Where if you play and beat them alot of them will just cry. Let it lapse and maybe some will realize they are not the center of the universe.
As far as teams go Raceland is the best coached team in the area. They do more with less talent than anybody right now. TJ should be the area coach of the year for going 6-4 with this team.

Here is a question for everyone. Who needs this game more GC or Raceland?

grim_reminder Wrote:Here is a question for everyone. Who needs this game more GC or Raceland?
I will go out on a limb and say both teams equally need it. Greenup is still yet to have a winning record in I don't know how many years. Giving they don't win this week. And this is a possible win for them most years which is good. And this game for Raceland is a playoff type atmospehere. Which is always great. Being in 1A doesn't bring alot of big time games with crowds and such within district play. So it's a test for us to prepare later down the road. And this has turned into a bitter nasty rival the past couple of years. Those rivals are what's great about football. Football fans feed off of games like this.
10-25-2010, 02:07 PM
Yea the teams need this game. Shoot I need this game I love arguing with my Ram friends. Next year we trade off East Carter for Ashland, Lawrence for Johnson Central, and I hope we drop Portsmouth Notre Dame and play anyone else. We will have a tough schedule next year.
Good Luck next year in Raceland except when you play us.
