Greenup County Drops Raceland
#1
A game that has been played for as long as I can remember is now no more. Greenup will not renew it's contract with Raceland. I'm glad.
#2
No room on the schedule, or was it a blowout game every year?
#3
Neither.
#4
What is the reasoning?
#5
I guess TJ Maynard will remain winless as a head coach against Greenup County.

I am disappointed that this decision was made. I love these intracounty games, they were fun to play in, fun to watch, and it is probably a big money maker for both schools.
Who are the schools going to replace with this game? I have heard rumors Raceland will be playing Lawrence Co. next year. Any truth?
#7
There is a good possibility that Raceland and Ashland will be on the Lawrence schedule. Hate to hear about the GC/Raceland game. Always a good game and standing room only, great Friday night atmosphere.
#8
I just read that Boyd Co. also dropped Raceland from their schedule. Who is Raceland going to play next year?
According to the statement Maynard made in the article, he seems pretty ticked that Greenup and Raceland are not playing next year.

Do you really need a reason to do something stupid if you are at greenup? They major in stupidity down there. They hate raceland.....they hate Russell....and best of all They hate each other down there.

Things like this will happen at Greenup until they finally find out that the games are for the kids and not for someones' ego. The only people this hurts are the players who look forwarded to this game every year. I don't blame Maynard for saying he will not play Greenup as long as he is coach at Raceland, with Greenups' history that will probably encompass 3-4 coaching changes. The adminstration needs to step up.

We also have one less district game next year as well. So that's three spots that are empty. Although one looks to be filled by Lawrence County. Which is an exceptional plus side to our schedule. Other than that I'm not sure. Maybe West Carter or Lewis County? I don't think Maynard would call across the river looking for games but I suppose that's a possibility as well.

Is this what you call dodgeball?

The Greenup Raceland game should always be played along with Russell. The in county rivalrys are always a good game and looked forward to by all teams for bragging rights. Does anyone know the reason was it Copley or Maynard and what about Russell?
#14
I heard Russell was out as well.
#15
Heard today that Greeenup keeps argueing between whos fault it is Copley, Greenup administration,, back and forth with no real answer. ALL I can say is that all of it is a mystery and hearsay, until someone from Greenup who has the ability to sign a contract either does so, OR says NO-SHOW!
I agree about the rivalry between the schools, it is good and brings in a good gate for each team. In County rivalry, Davis vs Goliath,, Back Yard Brawl, US23 Bowl. Or what ever you know it as may have a direct impact on other sports as well , if someone does not get their head on straight.

AND yes it is for the kids!!! Not stupidity among MEN.
Oh and the comment about Greenup winning against TJ, I thougth TJ is the winningest coach Greenup ever had??? To BE the man, you gotta beat the man,,,,,WOOOOOOO Rick Flair Style there. So you win 2 games,,,,,, Still have Coach maynards name above your on the list...

Russell will still be on the GC schedule.

So why is GC dropping Raceland from the schedule?
#18
Copley scared of little brother beating him next year!!!! This is where the Principal should step in, wait he is clueless. Maybe psuedo AD Raby, nope not him he is guttless. What about the new AD, oh not yet we dont have one. Maybe Johnny Ballgame could be consulted. He has as much athletic sence as anyone at GC.
Competive game huge money maker. Yep makes sence lets drop it!!!!!
#19
I have to say as a long time GC football supporter that Im shocked and disappointed in this decision. Are we in that bad a shape next year that we have to drop a class A school? Also are we in that good a financial shape that we can dispose of a huge gate? Surely someone at GC can fix this horrible decision?
#20
I'll just go with the company answer. I dont bad mouth, or talk negative about anything GC. Orange hurts my eyes, so Im happy.

Hurts your record is more like it.

This series isn't about TJ and Copley. Wake up and get your head out of the little sandy mud!

that's right Wrote:This series isn't about TJ and Copley. Wake up and get your head out of the little sandy mud!

Does Greenup hold a grudge against Maynard and does not want to play against him?
#24
Does anyone know who is on the schedule for GC other than Ashland, Johnson Central, Rowan, Boyd, and Russell.

I for one will miss the Raceland game.

There are no official schedules for any football teams in Kentucky at this time for 2011.

5. Scheduling Moratorium. Contracts signed prior to October 18, 2010 are not to be considered valid. Schools are to hold off scheduling until the final alignment document is approved.

GC is not playing Raceland because they are scared of getting beat by little brother. GC should have NEVER got rid of Maynard!!!!
#27
Keep it on topic without all the extra thoughts about the coaches. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed and suspensions being issued.

raceland is off the scheldule because maynard was asking for a renewal of conraact now and copley isnt even absolutly sure who is going to be in his district next year so he asked maynard to let him see and maynard said now or never so its never i gusse well for atleast two years b/c it is a really big money maker for both school and a great atmosphere

Come on now flavor, district games are weeks 6-10 and do not affect the earlier weeks of scheduling. Sounds like another excuse. Most schools already have their early weeks filled.
