And as I said earlier in the week, these two teams will meet again this year. I for one, will be pulling for a rematch. Money well spent last night.

Guys I'll take a high school game on a Friday night any day over a college or nfl game on any Saturday or Sunday. This is football at it's best. If you didn't get something out of this game you need to find something else to go do. I loved it. And for any true fan out there, so did they. Let's do it again boys.

When the colors were marched out and the young gal sang our Anthem I stood and thought, "How blessed are we?"
I just pray those young men who played last night are somehow able to take the experience of last night and be so very thankful they got to be a part of something so special. No football game in Barbourville has ever been so well attended and supported and it was played with heart and pride for 4 quarters. Not a single player from Bell or KC got a scholarship to be there and I don't reckon any of them have million dollar contracts. But every one of them played like they did.
A blessing to see indeed.

Congratulations to the Bell! You have proved yourself once again. I enjoyed the game even if we lost. Panthers keep your heads up. We are close but not quiet there yet. Excellent sportsmanship tonight. Good luck to both teams. I hope to meet again for another great game.

Its a Boyle Co fan. I think he was questioning if we are the 4A team this year to beat. Im thankful Boyle will have to travel back to Log Mountain again this year.
Bell Co has now beaten #6 in 5A Johnson Central 42-18 (Varsity 42-6).
Bell Co has now beaten #6 in 4A Knox Central 21-7 on the road.
Bell Co also destroyed a Green Co team who just beat #3 in 4A Lone Oak.
This coming week we get another shot at another rank team in Tennessee in 3A.

BARBOURVILLE — The Bell County Bobcats put themselves in the driver’s seat for a District 7-4A championship with a hard-earned 21-7 win at Knox Central Friday night.
“We’re going to be district champions, I don’t see any way we can lose it,” said Bell coach Dudley Hilton after the game.. “That means our first two playoff games will be at home. If Knox can go on the road and win then we would play them again at our place. If Lawrence County or whoever it is from up there wins then the quarterfinal would be up there.
“But now we’ll have the homefield advantage if we play Knox again. That’s why I thought this game was so important.”
Before a standing room only crowd with plenty of Panther and Bobcat fans, Knox Central came out like a ball of fire.
They took the opening kick off and drove straight down the field. Quarterback Johnathan Barger picked up 16 yards and first down after scrambling away from pressure to convert a first down.
Johnathan Turpin added a 13-yard run and later in the drive Barger converted another first down with a five-yard pass to Anthony Merida.
Facing another third down from the Bell 22, Barger again dropped back, avoided the Bobcat pass rush and found a crease up the middle. He went 22-yards for a touchdown and the Panthers led 7-0 with about 7:15 to go in the first quarter.
“That was a good ol’ slug match between Bell and Knox,” said Panther coach Wayne Mills. “I’m proud of my team they played hard, they did everything we asked them to do and got focused for the game. This is one we can learn from, we can build on it and it will make us work harder this week.”
Bell answered with a long drive of their own. Knox was focused on containing junior running back Cory Davenport. They contained him for much of the first half as his first eight carries netted just 24 yards.
But the extra attention created more room for quarterback Ben Madon and company. Madon had runs of 18 and 17 yards in the early going and completed passes to Cody Davenport for nine yards and to Scotty Henderson for 12.
Madon competed the drive with a nine-yard strike to Cody Davenport in the end zone. John Dudley Hilton added the extra point the game was tied with 1:36 remaining in the first quarter.
Bell’s defense took away the middle for Barger to scramble to and were able to force a Panther punt on their next possession.
Bobcat senior fullback Taylor Mills lost a fumble, but be got the ball right back by intercepting a pass from Knox Central’s Devon Evans on the next play.
Neither team mounted much of scoring threat until Bell went to some trickery late in the second quarter.
Cory Davenport took a pitch and pulled up for a half-back pass. Bell senior receiver Bryan Thacker went up over a Knox Central defender to haul it in and the play went for a 39-yard gain.
That seemed to open things up for Davenport as he reeled off runs of 14 and 11 yards down and then capped the drive with a six-yard touchdown run and Bell led 14-7 with 1:59 to play in the first half.
“I’ll tell you what, it’s hard running it against this team,” Hilton said. “Bryan Thacker made an unbelievable catch right there in the middle of the field. He’s made several big-time plays for us.
“We’ve got to stop calling those junk plays and play ball the Bell County way. But they made us do some things we didn’t want to do and I give them a lot of credit.”
The Bobcats got the ball back late and nearly scored again. Madon threaded the needle between two Panther defender to hook up with Cody Davenport for a 49-yard gain down to the KC ten. With 16 seconds before the half, Bell tried a pair of passes into the end zone. One was too tall for a well-covered Davenport, the other was just out of the reach of Henderson as time expired.
“I thought Ben Madon played super. He led us like he should have led us,” Hilton said. “He missed a pass right there before the half that could have really opened it up, but overall he played real well.”
The defensive struggle continued throughout the third quarter with both teams moving the ball, but bogging down once they got into scoring position.
Madon swung the field position battle in Bell’s favor with a 38-yard punt that Jonathan Polly downed at the KC three yard line late in the third quarter.
But the Panthers were driving and advanced out the 40 before Turpin fumbled and Henderson recovered it for Bell at the 38.
Davenport found a hole and went 38 yards for a touchdown on the very next play. Hilton’s kick made it 21-7 10:41 to play and that would prove to be the final.
“You can’t turn it over on a good team like that with a running back like Davenport,” Mills said. “You just can’t do it.”
Knox Central had one last shot to get back into the game when Davenport lost a fumble at around the Bell 40. But three plays later it was 4th and 2.
Turpin tried the right side of the Bobcat defense but Henderson ran him down from the far side and slowed him up as Mills and Hilton come one to finish off the play behind the line. Taylor’s blow knocked the ball free and Barger picked up seven yards behind the line of scrimmage but he had no where to go as Mills forced him out of bounds.
Bell took over with less than five minutes to play and converted a pair of first downs to run out the clock.
Davenport finished with 143 yards on 24 carries and the two touchdowns. He also had the one pass completion for 39 yards.
Madon was Bell’s second leading rusher with 60 yards on six carries. He was 5-of-15 passing for 91 yards and the touchdown to Cody Davenport.
Cody finished with three catches for 67 yards while Thacker had two receptions for 51 yards.
“We just kept coming and kept coming. I was real proud of our boys,” Hilton said.
Turpin led the Panther ground attack with 93 yards on 21 carries. Barger ran it ten times for 52 yards.
Mills was pleased with his team’s effort but disappointed in the loss.
“We came into the game expecting to win. We’ve been through some tough games and we thought we had the team to match up with them,” he said. “A turnover here or there and a couple of big plays for them made the difference. Ben Madon threw some really nice footballs, Davenport goes up and makes a couple nice catches and (Thacker) makes a good play on their sideline over there.
“We rolled the dice a couple of times and didn’t get it, they rolled it and they got it. That’s part of this business. Bell’s got a good football team, I feel like I’ve got a good football team and we’re going to keep battling and hope we play them again.”
Bell County (6-0) hits the road next Friday to play at Soddy-Daisy, Tenn. Knox Central (5-2) plays at Rockcastle County

God blessed us with an injury free Beautiful night for this game. I'm proud of the way these neighors slugged it out. Both teams are better for having played this game. We have to do our work to get the honor of a re-match; but if we do - it will be a dandy. Thanks to all the classy Bell fans who came up to me after the game with such kind words of encouragement. I stand by my words. If we can't beat you I don't think anybody can wor will. Nice work Bobcats.

Thacker's catch was the best I have ever seen in a HS game. When he caught that ball he was 5 feet off the ground laid out in a parrellel position as the ball barely edged into his gloves and a defender on his tail. Great teams make great plays and that one should go down as a legendary effort.

The boys from Bell can play with the funny shaped ball for sure. Davenports speed is legit and from a football standpoint better than anyone I have ever seen. The forty time is meaningless to really get how fast he is in pads and left to right. And he can toss the rock pretty well too...

Should be noted that Green County was ranked by some services for their class (not positive but I believe they were 6 or 8 preseason)

games like this you just wish that a team didnt have to lose. all of these boys left it all out on the field. while i am sure that the Knox players are upset feeling that they could have won the game, i am sure the will be even more motivated if they play each other in the playoffs. good luck to each team for the rest of the season.

bells #14 #22 #24 and #33 are some big time defensive players.....and 33 can flat hit!!:devilflam 14 reads as good as anyone in the state....22 is really football smart plays his position great and is a good athlete and 24 just refuses to get blocked...good core for this bell couny D..

Bell always faced CovCath and Highlands in Semi's. That will be the case for KC as well in the next years system.
On the game I was very, very proud of the effort of the Panthers. I felt like we played a very good game. Not sure what else we could have done besides maybe let Bailey run that ball a few times???? Still not sure why he does not run the ball more??? Bell gave us a few chances with turnovers but we could not capitalize, that was our chance. Bell typically does not turn the ball over in big games but they did and still won. I think that is a testament to how good a football team they are. Big Tyler Grubb and Gilliam both played a heck of a game on the DL, they really gave Bell's OL fits all night.
Someone said they wished we were in a different class than Bell this year. Well to that.................. I say I wish we were too. Bell is awfully good. If they keep improving watch out. We will be back in Nov. to test them again.

I am glad i made the trip to go watch this game. Wayne gave knox and emotional speach right before the game started. It was a good way to movitvate his players to get the best out of them! They came out really fired up letting off fireworks!! This was a good Defensive battle game!!
It was a solid hard hitting game that i have seen in a while!! It was a good "Ole Slobber Knocker". I was proud of the way the bobcats pulled away with a huge distric championship win!! Knox Central is the real deal like dudley hilton said. Coach Mills has really come along ways in building that program he has them believing! I Agree that i hated that someone had to lose this game cause both teams played so hard. It was a instant classic.
