how do we know what teams are in what districts with what other teams?
#2
4A would be a dog fight!!!! 3A would still look the weakest but still competative
#3
I bet 5A is glade to see the Birds gone.:Cheerlead

CAN'T GET RIGHT Wrote:4A would be a dog fight!!!! 3A would still look the weakest but still competative

how do you say that? Bell, Breahitt, Belfry, Central,Tilman,FT.Campbell,SC,Corbin,Mason,Pike Central,LaRue,the last two are getting alot better, but the 1st 3 theres like 9 state titels there i think i havent looked it up..
#5
WOW, this makes me extremely happy. A lot of positives come from this. For one the Bell-Corbin talk has to be true now. This will renew there rivalry and force them to play every year. I bet Bell loves being put in this class, if they can keep up what they have been doing, many state championships could come from this realignment.
Also, really glad to see Highlands gone from 5A, this will make this class much more competetive and also clear up some other teams to break through for their first state championship.
Overall, I believe this is a lot better than what we have now.

Also, this kind of destroys 5A district 8, Clay and Lethcer both are gone according to this leaving four teams in the district. They migh move South Laurel to this district though to keep it at 5 teams, but I believe there district lost Mercer, its going to be suprising to see how this thing turns out.

3A East looks very good for Bell Co!

More like a cakewalk to state every year:igiveup:
Bell should dominate the east every year at the rate there going, the Bell faithful should be very happy with this.

I think we all are. East has been pretty easy too in 4A for the exception of the State Semi games.

Im excited about getting to play Corbin in a District game!!!

I bet there is nobody more upset with this than Corbin. All those easy district wins are going to turn into nightmares.

Really weird, all I hear is how certain teams are now in a different class and how it will be a "cake" walk to state. Personally that is embarrassing. Why or how can you celebrate a "cake walk" to a state championship. That is embarrassing . For those teams , that is weak.

Last I checked a State Championship is a State Championship isnt it?

Its not their fault they were placed in those alignments, like highlans hasnt had a cakewalk for the last 3 years. Teams want wins and theyll stay where they can.

Let the teams at the top overlook teams all they want. That is when upsets happen.

I knew that, but you know they could compete with Trinity and X year in and year out, but they stopped at 5A where they knew they would dominate every year. Seriously, Highlands is one of the best, if not the best football program in the state, but, why didnt they move on up.

Upsets can happen, they do every year, but if Bell plays like Bell can, or even half of what they can, name five teams out of the east off that list that would stay within 5 touchdowns of Bell.

I expect Bell to be the favorite, they have a great program. I just think that if a team thinks it is going to be a cake-walk, they are setting themselves up for an upset. I watched a game between Somerset and Taylor County and I am sure Somerset thought they were going to come in a beat TC by 40+ as they always do, but TC upset them and I still can not believe that one.

Usually its just us fans that think this. Dudley knows each and every game will be a contest and the boys do too. Thats why he is one of the best coaches in the State. Heck he took a 2-8 Bourbon Co team and won State the following year. :yikes:

Yea i totally understand what your saying. Any team can be beat, ive seen it happen way to many times, i was just trying to explain how i thought Bell wouldnt have much of a challenge. And, like i said before programs want wins, its what there built on, and its a really good situation for bell.

Because the whole point of playing up was to keep the rivalry with CovCath alive and have a ready made district. No 3A teams here and no 4A teams, so 5A was the next stop.

Lol, At least they did move up. Others are happy with the LACK of challenge and look at staying in their comfort zone as a good thing instead of having the guts to step up to a challenge.

I sure wish Letcher Central would stay in 5a. Don't like it at all.

Keep in mind that this side bar topic does not involve the current realignment, but the one that went into effect starting with the 07 season:

The CovCath rivalry may have been a reason Highlands did not end up in 6A when the KHSAA last realigned, but the long and the short of it is that the KHSAA would not have allowed Highlands to move up to 6A when they realigned the last time. When you are granted a move up request, it's to the next highest class that results in you no longer being geographically isolated. In Highlands case, that was 5A. I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty confident that the possibility of a move up to 6A was explored by Highlands and they were told in advance that it would not be approved for the reason stated two sentences prior to this one.
#28
i personally would love to see Highlands in 6A. i think they have a great team and many times they have been overshadowed by St. X and Trinity because they play in a different class (see cantrell ratings last year). it would be good for the state of football in kentucky to see the 3 top teams in the state play.

while i agree that classes should be divided up initially by enrollment. i think geographical isolation and level of competition should be the final say so in the arrangement. i think instead of basing the next realignment in 2014 base purely on numbers i think the should look at team success. if you have a team in 4A that goes 3-37 over the four years let them drop to 3A to see if they can compete (no matter the size, barring isolating them geographically). the opposite is true for team success. if you have a school that very successful let them play up if they want. sometimes equal/competative playing field (which is what khsaa says they want) isnt purely about numbers of students that attend a school. i think we as a state should be making gradual changes to the system to improve competition not wholesale changes, i am just guessing but it looks like 1/4 of the teams will be playing in different classes next year, doesnt that seem extreme?

What grounds are there to stay in 5A, 4A is their enrollment figures and they have suitable teams in their 4A district.

Knox
Rock
Clay
Letcher
Perry Central (Would get bumped down if 1 school moves up)

My question:

HHS is the lowest 4A school, what kept them out of 3A this time.

There are 32 teams in 1A
There are 32 teams in 6A

That is to make it even, I understand.

Then the middle 4 classes should be equal with 39 each with 2 teams left over to be placed accordingly.

Instead there are:

40 in 2A
40 in 3A
41 in 4A
37 in 5A

I don't understand the discrepancy in number cutoff per class.
