Russell @ Ashland 9/10
#1
To much tomcats in this one Ashland wins by 21

The Kitty Cats better not take Russell lightly. If Russell keeps playing like they have been, minus the mistakes that have plagued them in the red zone, Russell could pull the upset.

Asland poses a much different problem for a Russell defense that has proven they can play well against power running teams. Now they have to adjust and prove they can play the same kind of defense when Ashland spreads them out. I don't know if they can or not. Ashland has the athletes and they have proven they can pit up big offensive numbers against anybody.

Ashlands defense is going to focus on a more balanced Russell offense than in the past couple of years. Russell has moved the ball well on the ground and through the air in each game. The problem is they have struggled to finish drives.

I think Asland wins but it's going to be another battle. I'll say Kitties 24 Evils 17.

russell allways comes into putnam with a good gameplan but its the same gameplan as it has been for as long as mcglone has been the head coach there and everyone in ashland knows what it is....i dont think russell can score 2 touchdowns against the fast defense of ashland and i dont think russell can keep sam hunter out of the endzone....ashland has too many weapons for the russell defense that couldnt stop greenup so ashland should pull this one out on home turf....
Ashland----36
Russell-----17

Is that the same Russell defense that gave up only half as many yards to Greenup County as Ashlands "fast defense"?

ashland by 14.

that was ashlands first game....against a team not many people knew how good they were.......but when you know that the other team is going to run it makes all the difference.....even though russell held greenup to lesser yardage they still couldnt win the game

I'm biased but I'm honest. Ashland should win but If Russell keeps playing with the same effort they have been they could pull off a shocker.

This game will be a nice measuring stick game to tell us how Russell and Belfry compare. Ashland fans will have to opine to that after next Friday. Might not matter for Belfry or Russell though as Breathitt Co. looks to be the cream of that 3A region.

I haven't seen Russell play, but just going on scores and scuttlebutt, I'll say:

Ashland - 38
Russell - 17

Lol agreed Russell played very well against ironton they just. Can't seem to not turn the ball over but it does make u wonder where that team was all year. But u opened yourself up to a lot of hazing from your friend in tomcat Country

Ivan McGlone knows Ashland well, he poured the concrete at Putnam Stadium...:moon: I have seen both teams play, and I think Russell has a good team that just needs to stop the turnovers, especially in the red zone. They played Greenup closer than the score indicated and played pretty good defense against the run. Ashland just has too many weapons and Russell will have to stop the pass and the run. Too much this season, Ashland by 14

its allright FBALL it was all in good fun.... it will be a good game to watch and i wish good luck to both teams and no one gets hurt before the teams face theyre district opponents

If Russell can figure out how to stop the pass, they have a chance. So far, it sounds like they have stopped the run fairly well. Ashland will be a tough matchup for them with Withrow and Wetsel.

I'm thinking Ashland will make it three in a row against Russell. But.... I do however think it will be a better game than the last couple? Ashland should be at full strength for the first time this year. With Prichard back on the defense an Cody watts back after sitting out with a bad virus against belfry. He is a bruser of a fullback with great speed as well, an he's only a sophomore. Our offensive line seem to do well against a big belfry line actually pushing them around alittle in the second half. An our bend but won't break defense is getting the job done. I'm still not happy with the play of our linebackers tho! Bad thing is I know of at least 3 sophs or juniors an one freshman that are more than capable of doing a better job!!

Can't wait til this one! Always fun getting to whoop them evils!! Buckle up your chin strap Evils!! You too Fball! You better be ready I tend to get a little excited wouldn't want to hurt ya!

Don't forget about hunter, watts , Massey , nunley, oh an Rogers has been playing great right now.

Russell played better than I thought they would. But I also think Ironton under estimated the Devils. Russell just ran out of steam. The Huffine kid ran really well the second half. If Cooper could have gotten some pass blocking in the 2nd half, he could have completed some valuable passes.
This week will be a another story. Ashland is very quick and to skilled. The Hardy kid will shine on D. And Ashland's offense is starting to click. They also, like Russell, play alot of underclassmen. But I think the Tomcats are just better coached and will be better prepared for this one.

Tomcats take this one by 14.
#21
Tomcats have their way.........Ashland 42......Russell 7
#22
I agree Blackcat Ashland by 14. Russell will continue to improve though and be prepared come playoff time!
#23
While Russell played Ironton close I think Ashland wins this one by a couple of TD's

Hahaha. Yeah to some beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Or in this case the TOMCAT NATION!!!

You won't be able to say that much longer fball! The new score board is already at the stadium in crates suppose to be put up in a few weeks. After this season, phase 1 of project Putnam stadium will be in gear. With the scoreboard being the beginning.
