Class 6A, District 6
#1
http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100...District-6

Simon Kenton
Coach: Jeff Marksberry (56-55)

Last year: 11-2 (lost 48-34 to St. Xavier in third round)

Players to watch: Senior QB Chad Lawrence; senior LB Austin Baldwin; senior LB Bo Lockard; senior WR Ryan Winkler; senior DB Sage Powell.

Other key players: Senior WR Jake Krummen; senior WR Matt Reilly; senior DL Danny Williams; senior WR/DB Zach Carroll; senior LB Parker Deters.

Outlook: The Pioneers have gone 21-7 the past two seasons, and having a veteran quarterback like Lawrence will help as the Pioneers search for a replacement for 2009 Enquirer player of the year Miles Simpson.

Lawrence ran for 1,165 yards and 12 touchdowns, while throwing for 1,796 yards and 21 touchdowns. The team returns three wide receivers and a tight end, but only one starter returns on the line.

Ryle
Coach: Bryson Warner (49-38)

Last year: 8-4 (lost 66-17 to St. Xavier in second round)

Players to watch: Junior RB Travis Elliott; senior QB Conner Hempel; senior LB Court Mace; senior OL/DL Tanner Teepen; senior WR/DB Luke Boggs.

Other key players: Junior LB/OL Matt Vollett; senior DB Zach Senvinsky; senior OL Bill Schild; senior RB/WR Deion Mullens; senior WR Taylor Thibodeau; senior QB Caleb Lonkard

Outlook: Ryle has one of the area's best quarterback-running back duos with Elliott and Hempel, but it also has other good skill players in Boggs, Mullens, Thibodeau and Lonkard to help out the offense.

The addition of former Pendleton County coach Lee Teegarden, who is the offensive coordinator, has helped balance out the offense and should keep teams from stacking the box against Elliott.

Boone County
Coach: Rick Thompson (81-61)

Last year: 4-7 (lost 49-0 to St. Xavier in first round)

Players to watch: Senior TE Trevan Brown; senior RB Jordan Oppenheimer; senior OL/DL Chris Fookes; junior RB Drew Stuck; senior DE Aaron Miller.

Other key players: Senior WR Caden Doyle; senior DL Drew Steele; senior DE Donald Lauderback; senior DB Cole Wendlen; junior LB Mikel Reynolds.

Outlook: With a strong backfield and line, the running game once again looks to be the strength of Boone County's offense.

Five players return on the defensive side of the ball. . Thompson said the team needs to improve its tackling to become contenders.

Conner
Coach: David Trosper (32-51 overall, 16-17 at Conner)

Last year: 8-3 (lost 50-39 to DuPont Manual in first round)

Players to watch: Senior WR/DB Michael Mueller; senior WR/DB Taylor Miller; senior OL Max Ingram; senior DL Howard Watkins; senior MLB Logan Kremer

Other key players: Sophomore WR/DB Cameron Fogle; senior DE Brandon Ernstes; senior QB Cy Smith; senior LB Eric Sowder

Outlook: Conner lost 22 seniors that had won 15 games over the past two seasons. It returns four starters on each side of the ball.

This year there are 26 seniors who were freshmen when Trosper took the Conner job. They lack starting experience but are comfortable in the system.

Smith faces a big challenge in replacing Enquirer first team all-star Nick West at quarterback, but Trosper is impressed with his arm and likes his running ability.

Campbell County
Coach: Troy Styer (28-25)

Last year: 3-7 (missed playoffs)

Players to watch: Senior QB Michael Kremer; senior TE/LB Nate Geiman; senior OL/LB Joe Sauerbeck; senior WR Matt Smith; senior FB/LB Michael Teegarden.

Other key players: Sophomore RB/LB Tyler Durham; senior RB/LB Danny Glasgow; junior RB James Popp.

Outlook: Kremer is the leading returning passer in Northern Kentucky, and Smith and Geiman are the Nos. 1 and 2 returning players in receiving yards per game. With seven offensive starters back, the Camels are looking good on offense.

Defensively, six starters return, led by another of the Sauerbeck brothers. Styer hopes the team will be able to stop the big play more this season after giving up several third-and-longs last year.

Cooper
Coach: Randy Borchers (12-29 overall, 5-15 at Cooper)

Last year: 3-7 (missed playoffs)

Players to watch: Senior RB Dvontae Bradley; senior WR Ryan Klute; senior OL/DL Matt Schafer; senior OL/DL Taylor Reeves; senior DB Jordan Young.

Other key players: Junior WR/DB AJ Branch; senior Jeremy Doerman; sophomore DE Taylor Centers; senior DB Jon Sutthoff; senior WR/DB Mason Huchinson.

Outlook: Bradley ran for 1,608 yards and 17 touchdowns last season, and along with Klute will lead the offense.

Defensively, the Jaguars lost their top three leaders in tackles from last year.

Ryle and Sk are the two top schools in the district. That game could be one of the best games played in NKY this season
