Harlan Co. @ Knox Central (Scrimmage)
#1
This will be the second game. What does everyone think? Should be 2 good teams on the field although scrimages don't mean much.
#2
Will be a great game, IF they play it like a real game, if not who knows how it will turn out.
#3
Does HC have any other scrimmages scheduled? If so, when and where?
#4
Should be a good game. Both teams are looking to have great seasons.
#5
Harlan has a great weight room program. They bring big strong kids to the field that are well coached. That said, Knox will win the scrimmage with better defense and kicking game.

Good thing they won't be kicking the ball in this thing then unless it is a PAT.
#8
They will do Special teams but they will not be live for contact. KC will match HC's strength. Coach Mills does a fine job in the weight room.

Well lets see.

Kicker: Codi Diamond - set school record for longest field goal (40 yds), most extra points in a game (8), missed 3 exta points all year last year and enters his 3rd year as kicker. Puts balls in end zone on kick offs this year. Boots 50 yarders in practice.

Punter: Jeffery Canady - pushed people back all year last year; unleased a 65 yard punt; and is doing the same consistently this year. Never mind the "fake" threat when your punter is already a D1 recruit for skill positions.

Snapper: This oft overlooked critical position is a great strenght for us. Knox Snapper is Under 2 seconds on every punt. Tough to block that.

KO Return: Jeffery Canady.

If that is not strong special teams - not sure what it takes.

Im not saying KC has bad special teams. Im just saying IMO that is not a major strong point on the team. The offense and defense for this team make a bigger difference in a game than the ST.

The times I have seen Harlan Co. I have never been impressed with their special teams.

But remember Special teams will not play a role in this scrimage.

After hearing what HC has coming back I say KC will win by a few TD's.
#12
What have you heard they have coming back that would make you think they will lose that badly in a scrimmage to KC. Remember that KC lost to the bottom two teams in HC's district last season. Two teams that did not even make the playoffs. HC has 8 back on defense, 9 if you count one kid who was injured last season but started as a sophomore. Offensively they have everyone back except Green and two linemen. Two very good linemen, but still they have three back. In the end, who cares? It is only a scrimmage, but I was just wondering who you heard HC lost that would have that sort of effect?

HOw did knox look against Claiborne County Tenn.?

Wrong thread, stir the pot elsewhere.

Although this is a scrimmage and I don't see the Black Bears showing too much, these Black Bears are anxious and will come to play. This will be an opportunity to release a little bit and against a good measuring stick of a team. I hope the Black Bears will be able to impress William Muney and others in the weeks to come and SHOW what the Bears have coming. Nevertheless, this Friday Night will be... just a grid/scrimmage. GO BLACK BEARS!!!!!Gitcha some!!!
#16
Not to sound like a doubter, but I guess I am? All I have heard from Harlan Co. is how good we are going to be every year and guess what? They never live up to the hype. I don't doubt Coach Larkey but I just wonder if they will ever come close to being the monster of the mountains the people of Harlan Co. think they should be? They really only had 1 good win last year and that was against LCC?
#17
Fair enough, but I don't think there was any super hype going on the last two years. People should expect to win but I don't feel there were ever any unrealistic expectations. Rome wasn't built in a day. If you look at most schedules in the mountains, teams will only have one or two good wins. I'd include Southwestern in the playoffs as a very good win. They have a very solid defense. Again, Knox lost to two teams that HC beat last season. Were those bad losses for Knox?
#18
I felt like KC's lose to NL was not an upset although the lose to Clay was. Knox was not very good last year and most of us knew it. I am not sure SW was a huge upset although they did beat HC earlier in the year.

Yogi I do feel like most of the Harlan Co. fans had those inflated expectations and still do. You my friend are in a minority in the Bear community.
#19
Don't be fooled. I have high expectations as anyone should when they root for a team. I think many people get the excitement the fans have felt for the new program confused with hype. That is just my take. We'll have to respectfully agree to disagree on that one. What will make Knox so much better than last year? I do feel HC will be better this year-- Another year in the system, another great year in the weightroom, 8 returning on defense (Could count Dylon Smith who was injured last season, that would make nine). Three o-linemen, 2 WR, 2 TB. Special teams will improve this year I believe.

I don't know if many people would agree with you that the NL game was not an upset. As far as HC, SW, I was just saying that it was a quality win. They have a very good defensive front. Their front 4 could play for anybody. The other 7 would struggle to play for many teams in the mountains, but the four DL can play.

The scrimmage will not be much of an indication for Knox with two very key starters on the sidelines.

It aint like it would help if they were there.
#23
Muney, I agree with Yogi on this one. Hype around a new program and expectations for a new program are two different things. Yes, us people here in Harlan County do hold the bar high, we expect to win. All good programs have a high expectation level. I do not think winning 8 games a piece and getting to the 2nd round of the playoffs in each of the first two years of existence is underachieving. Are the Black Bears content with that every year? By no means. They want a state title and are doing everything in their power to reach that level. Black Bear fans are loyal and supportive of the football program and will continue to be. You, sir, do not appear to be in that group.

A year of experience from a rebuliding year. They lost one player last year (Merida) RB. Entire def returns. How wouldnt they be?

You talking about Bailey and Helton? I know Helton is out and I dont think Bailey practiced yesterday. Correct me if your reffering to someone else.

I never insinuated they would not be. I know nothing about them. Just was a question. Muney had stated with what he heard HC lost they'd get beaten by a few TDs. I was stating HC had not lost that much. Knox lost to two teams that finished in the bottom of HC's district. I was just wondering where that quatum leap was coming from. HC will be better also because of the same reasons.
#27
they lost to clay county without jeffrey cannady and clay lost hooker a game later without him out there being the play maker for clay county they were lost. not trying to take anything away from clay but it takes a very big weapon from clay
#28
North destroyed Clay with Hooker. Clay almost went over and beat Whitley without him. Great athlete. Some opinions were that they were better with Wilson at QB. Who knows?
#29
I don't expect to see too much from either especially with the hot weather. Having said that, nobody likes to lose scrimmage or not. So I expect to see the Black Bears play tough.
#30
I can't predict what the outcome of a scrimmage will be. Both teams will be rotaing plays and players alike throughout. Both teams will sandbag a little and keep everyone healthy. Now if these two programs met during the regular season for real my take is diiferent. Harlan County would throw the defense to them and it may be a low scoring affair but the Black Bears would come out on top.
