Class of 2012 rankings
#1
After watching several games with each player this past season, I switched the top spot in the Class of 2012.

It was more about what Boone County's Sydney Moss did to take over the top spot rather than what Manual's April Wilson didn't do. Wilson has a great sophomore season and is a big-time performer - top 50 nationally.

But Moss was off-the-charts. She helped Boone County into the Sweet 16 and was just phenomenal in every facet of the game. In fact, she was a game-changer and she's the daughter of NFL All-Pro wide receiver Randy Moss - so she's athletic.

I will be excited to see what she does as a junior, a year more maturity and now that she has a year of the system under her belt. I think she could be big-time.

Here's the top 20 based on potential:

1. Sydney Moss, Boone County, 5-11 - She can do it all for the Lady Rebels.
2. April Wilson, Manual, 5-7 - She's so steady at the point for the Lady Crimsons. Most other years and she's the No. 1 player.
3. Jenna Crittendon, Ryle, 5-11 - She's the sleeper of the class. Plays in the post a lot in high school but exceptional athlete and Division I potential.
4. Bre Elder, Marion County, 5-9 - Because of Epps and Goodin-Rogers, some forget she's an All-State caliber player herself.
5. Megan Pittman, Casey County, 5-11 - Am impressed by her effort and ability to rebound every time I see her take the floor.
6. Ashli Mayes, Franklin County, 5-11
7. Kendall Noble, Perry County Central, 5-10
8. Micah Jones, Green County, 5-8
9. Kara Wright, Manual, 5-11
10. Lyndsey Burd, Hart County, 5-11
11. Miranda Davenport, Harlan County, 5-6
12. Peyton Hisel, Tates Creek, 6-1
13. Haley Armstrong, Murray, 5-9
14. Ashley Mullins, Harlan County, 6-1
15. Rianna Gayheart, Owen County, 5-8
16. Ashley Cheesman, Ryle, 5-8
17. Kelsey Carmack, Deming, 5-9
18. Lauren Bodine, Manual, 5-8
19. Molly Lamb, Greenwood, 5-10
20. Jamie Cummings, Barren County, 5-11

JMO, however, I would have Noble ranked higher. Maybe even as high as #2 behind Moss.

I might have put her at 5 or 6, but not as high as 2.

I really do not see any Harlan or harlan county mentioned in the top twenty in the state..maybe in the top 20 in there respective region.
Clay County and Bell not mentioned in same class and the knox county big That I personally played against all of them are good or better in certain aspects of there game and still possibly not garner to be ranked in the twenty best in the state as a whole.
I understand everyone is intitled to opinions and rankings are sometimes based on assumptions and hunches but I personally know in playing head to head whom too respect and those you can simply leave open..JMO but i know it to be accurate as of now but who knows they may even pan out in the upcoming seasons to be in the top 5 in the state..but i just cant see it. :eyeroll:

Really? With that inconsistent jumper? Have you seen any of those other kids?

Anything in the top five is good! Noble can play!

Yes, I have seen them all numerous times. I would rank Moss #1, and it would be close between Wilson and Noble for me. Noble has the most balanced game of any of those top players. If her team goes far and plays in some of the marquee tournaments around the state, she will get the props she deserves.

Having been around NKY and watched these girls for years, I would put Crittendon ahead of Moss, not that its a huge difference. Moss tends to get a little bump for name recognition. Cheesman does not belong on this list. Good player but not of this caliber, there are 5-6 others in the 2012 class just in NKY who would be higher; you can't have 2 players in the top 20 and lose as much as Ryle did.

Blue is this your list or the list from the link? I am just a little confused. I am not saying you did anything wrong, I am just wondering because this is a pretty good list and I know you are capable of making good lists.

Thanks.

Not sure Davenport belongs on that list. If she does, there are a couple others that are as good or better than her that should be on there.

I have seen quite a few NKY games as well and I'm not so sure I can agree with your assessments. Take a look at Moss and Crittendon head-to-head last season:

Game 1 (BC 58- Ryle 53) - Moss 32 points, 16 rebounds; Crittendon 19 points, 7 rebounds

Game 2 (BC 42 - Ryle 41) - Moss 29 points, 14 rebounds; Crittendon 8 points, 5 rebounds

Game 3 (BC 32 - 30) - Moss 18 points, 13 rebounds; Crittendon 10 points, 7 rebounds

Totals - Moss 79 & 43, Crittendon 37 & 19.

What better way to evaluate than head-to-head?

"Name recognition?" Moss has started four years of HS basketball overall, has scored well over 1000 points and will reach 1000 rebounds for her career, possibly even this season. She averaged 22.6 PPG and 10.8 RPG last year and led her team to the States where she impressed those who had never seen her play prior. Seems to me her last name isn't nearly as important as what she has done on the floor.

I don't know if Cheesman belongs in the Top 20 or not but I believe she is the Ryle player showing the most improvement year to year as she gets stronger and more mature and continues to work hard at her game.

All I know is if the girl would shoot the shots she should, this wouldn't be a discussion. Right now, she's just not nearly as assertive as she should be, if she were, Breathitt may have already had a championship.

Moss is going to get the press because her name demands it. She is a fine player but if I'm looking at the next level and how a player can conform easier to the college game, I'll take April Wilson and Jenna Crittendon hands down.
