Mr. Football Finalists Announced....
#31
big ty 75

98 I never once said that neither of the ones on the list did'nt deserve being there , I was just making an opinion, and if you don’t like my opinion well I’m sorry that is again what this place is about, sharing our thoughts with others. It’s a fact year end and year out anyone east of I75 gets the short end of the stick. I am by no means taking away from the talent in that area because I have watched a lot of football in that area. I am just a football fan and love to express my opinion. And love to see if there are others out there that feel the same way I do. I know the kids around here just don’t get the media coverage that should and for some reason which is prob. one reason they get the short end of the stick. We play (and when I say we I mean this part of Kentucky) games just like the rest of Kentucky. But the main thing is that all kids from across Kentucky get the same thing and that is to play this great game called Football. I am sorry if I hit a nerve, but I just love this time of the year!! Playoff time!!

98 i am by no means taking away from the talent. I guess its just my opinion. I just love football and I love to see anybody from EKY. just get there fair shake in things, and likeIfirst said, Johnson should win it this year , the best pure football player on the list, and i am sure that there are other that have there opinion also. anyways this is a great post. love to see eveyone express there opinions, and GOOD LUCK to all the finalist.

Batpuff, I could argue that teams down there get more media coverage than up here.

There is MAYBE one high school game a week on the radio here (and it's 90% of the time a Cincinnati team) and no team has there own radio station.

We have to compete with a Cincinnati market that has no interest whatsoever in NKY sports. You have no one to compete with. We get maybe a 10second highlight o nthe news and 95% of the time its just a run down of all the scores with no highlights.

Our papers we're lucky to get a one paragraph synosis of the game, much less an article and there is nothing ever in depth except for preseason.

98 were are the powers to be, that vote for the mr football from, i know they should be spread out. Just a reason i say you get the media coverage and if i am wrong i am sorry for getting it incorrect.
#36
Well if you don't know where the people who vote on Mr. Football are located how can you say there is any bias?
#37
OK, and in the past thay have been from any where but here.lol And i am sure that most people dont know where they are based out of, does that keep me or anyone else from having an opinion on how we feel about MR Football. all i was asking is do you know where they are from.
#38
I think i'll throw my 2 cents in now...

In the past, it seems like the only finalists or even players who get a vote are from the Lexy, Louisville, and other northern areas.. Some players from the west may have gotten votes, but i'm not really sure..

However in the East, who besides Tim Couch has even gotten a look as Ky's Mr. Football.. None that I can remember.. I could be wrong. but i don't remember any. That's where us people from the east get that there is a Bias for central and northern Ky.

Personally I could care less, but it would be nice to have someone from our part of the state nominated. However I also know that the east don't have schedules quite as tough as some of the other teams.. Some do, but most don't..

That's just something to look at..

Justin Burke

I really don't think the schedules matter I mean heck we've had players win state championships from the east that were dominate on their team but didn't even get a look.

Not saying that its intentional but it is a fact that if your from EastKy your not going to get a look.

NC98 as far as the media attention in the East yes we do get a lot of great coverage from Radio, Print and TV but that coverage stays right here in the East. As far as those from down state they don't see it.

IMO a lot of this has to do with whether UK is recruiting these kids. They have the BIGGEST press following in the state and the press wants to help with recruiting by nominating those who UK or the press want at UK the most. In the case of Burke, he is an obvious candidate even though he as committed to NC State.
#42
Parker signed and played at uk did that help with the coverage down here no.
#43
i think that micah johnson will win mr. football
#44
I think Micah Johnson will most likely win it, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Burke win.
#45
Crazytaxidriver, Scotty Russell (Evarts) is the last one I can remember before Couch.
#46
johnson
#47
Micah Johnson RB/LB - Fort Campbell has mr football all over him. IMO he will take it easily.
#48
I think that durell olinger is still the best QB in the mts. because he really couldnt help who he played this year and the sorry teams that he did play didnt help his expirence against the good teams.

Would it make sense to come up with a new system where each area of the state is represented maybe break it down to North, South, East, West and Central?

GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!

orisonspi Wrote:Painstville this year is sitting at home while Somerset plays NewCath...unless somethng drastic happens NewCath will continue the NKY 1A domination of the MT region. Over the past five years no Mountain 1A team has been within 3 TD's of Danville, NewCath, Beechwood, Mayfield, or this year Bardtsown... thus they are a second tier 1A team IMO.

It also doesn't help that Blume's claim to fame on a 3A team comes against a 1A team.....

Get where I am coming from here?

For example,,, if I amde the case that Matt Maynard is a better candidate than Ron Blume I would not note his performance against Pikeville but instead note how he fared against Henry Clay (loss, but played very well against 12-1 4A team who has been top 5 all year) or Ironton Ohio who narrowly missed knocking the top team in ohio off in the 3rd round.
you should make sure all your facts are straight..First of all in the playoff game he brought his team back with a great kick reurn for a td and a 70 yard td on a screen pass, both were a great display of his talent.(speed, field vision and cutting...ask Stocker..LOL)..2ND, his best performanc came against Boyd County: 430 yards rushing and 7 td's...I know of 2 coaches he played against this year that said he was better than Beach....Never seen Beach play so I can't compare them..Just don't sell the kid short because he IS a great talent with great heart...Best player in the state:NO...IMHO one of the best backs and probably the most dangerous...Ask those who would not punt or kick to him all year and yet he returned 4 for td's.Confusedalute:

I have seen enough football to know that Blume is/was the real deal.

Is he in the same class as the 5 finalists? I don't know at this point. But I wouldn't automatically exclude him because of the schedule that his team played.

I was happy to see that he was at least on the list. Anything less would have been a complete joke.
