Jay Cobb leaves Knott Co.
#1
Don't take this as 100% true yet, but i've heard from a close source to the football program in Knott County that Jay Cobb has stepped down from his head coaching position.
#2
Do you blame him?
#3
If true, wow.

Two straight seasons of being a coach and not getting to actually coach those teams.

This won't look good on his resume.

Everyboby has to do what is best for them. Most people don't know all the situations involved.

Doesn't look like a rumor anymore. There is an article about this on a central ky newspaper's website. Very short. Says look for more info tomorrow. There is a picture of him, not sure if he is addressing Campbellsville players or if it is an old photo.
#7
wow, cant make up his mind if he wants to coach or not, lol, i feel for the kids
#8
ive personally talked to the coaches and some of the players they have told me the reason why hes leaving the program is because of family problems
#9
Taking the job at C-ville.
#10
So who will KCC hire to coach next season, did anyone see this coming, so that Knott was kinda prepared?
#11
Didn't see this at all either.

What a joke. He did a lot of people including kids very wrong. If he signed a contract isn't there something they could do?
Ive heard nothing but good things about Cobb. Since i have no personally experiences with him, and only this to go on.... Im gonna say he is one big POS.

On a side note, i has heard Tom Searcy was there as an assistant. I guess he will assume the role as head coach?

Well maybe that POS didnt want to come back to Knott County. Can you blame the guy, I mean really all they care about is basketball. Why not go to a smaller school with Athletes like Cambellsville and be happy. I cant blame the guy for not going to Knott Central. Knott has the potential to have a good program but I dont think Cobb wants to be a miracle worker anymore. Hes getting older and probably doesnt want as much headaches. Sabo why dont you apply for the job? You would make a good one.

If it is such a horrible job, why did he accept it in the first place? He has a history of hanging teams, especially players, out to dry. Besides, he hadn't even coached a game at Knott Co! At least he gave them more time than Somerset. He left them hanging with a little over a week til the first game of the season. The way is burning bridges, no one will want to hire him eventually.

Very interesting, Cobb is one of my closest friends and always will be so I can't say I don't support him in his decision. He will do good things for wherever he ends up if he would just stay there. I had heard that he couldn't find a house in Knott Co. That he had been looking since he took the job and was still having to commute from Somerset even this week. Not saying that this is the reason he didn't stay at Knott but it has to be frustrating. Oh well, very strange to say the least.

And to some of you I wouldn't be so quick to crucify Cobb. He has been through a pretty tough last couple of years and things aren't getting any easier for him. Why don't you just give him the benefit of the doubt til you know the facts. Some of your coaches aren't exactly saints themselves.

I don't know Mr. Cobb or why he left Knott Co so I'm not going to judge him but surely finding a house was not an issue . I'm sure there are houses in Hazard, Martin, Prestonsburg, etc for sale or rent. When I relocated to Paris a few years ago Coach Reese (Paris High School) spent a day with me showing me around town and found me an apartment.

I agree that if it was a horrible job he should of never accepted the position. I also dont buy the excuse that he couldnt find housing. Are you serious? Theres a small college in Knott Co. I know theres all kinds of apartments and houses for rent.

As for what he did at somerset, from what i hear he was actually standing up for the kids in that situation. Didnt he request ice for safety precautions during the summer 2 a days and the board turn him down? He resigns and 2 days later theres ice there?

As for me coaching football, not a chance I could be a head coach. The only sport I feel i can be the head coach of is wrestling, or a desperate baseball team haha. If i dont move back to WV chances are you will see me on a football field, but in a different role.

Campbellsville doesn't have the athletes they used to have. I think he'll figure that out in about a week or so. My bet is he's not there next year.

I was wondering this myself. I knew he was going to go there to be an assistant. Maybe he could take over. I also agree that it isn't right to up and leave like this. Like you I have heard a lot of good about Cobb and I am sure Knott thought they had the right hire to turn the program around. Now they have to start over the process and try to find this person again.

Dang, KCC hiring Cobb took two steps forward now they are moving 5 steps back. I respect his choice to do whatever. I know understand its a bussiness just like any other job but I was excited to see Knott County football improve but now I guess it'll be a few more years now according to who they'll try to bring in. Good Luck Pats!

Coach Koog from Leslie step down hopefully they could bring a guy like him in that knows how to win, heard he was going to stay and be asst. at LC but who knows.Nothing to Searcy but I dont think anything will change if he gets the job.I hope they'll bring someone in that have a little more disiplince and knows how to win with some experience under their belt.

I played for Coach Cobb my sophomore year at SV and Ive always had the utmost respect for him. But, the guy is really hurting himself with some of the moves hes made over the last few years. He took the Henderson Co. job and the backed out less than a week later in 2007 to go back to Somerset. Then all the events that took place last year and now this. I dont know the whole story but of all these personal problems folks are saying he has. Does he not have them when he agrees to take these jobs? Maybe he needs to take time off from coaching to try and take care of them whatever they may be.

If the powers that be over at KCC are actually considering giving the job to Searcy now that Cobb is gone. They might want to get rid of any equipment managers of the female persuasion before hand if you get my drift..........

I am only going to say this about the KCC job. I actually applied and the AD would call and tell me they were interested but going to wait to after B'ball season. Then, I called them again after Basketball season and they told me interviews would not start for another week and I was one of 5 they were interviewing. However, they hired Cobb the next day. So, my point is that you should be always be honest and maintain integrity in all situations or it very well may come back to get you. Which, it has. Actually, it worked out great for me and I am in a great place. For the young men's sake, I hope KCC does things the right way this time.

My perspective mirrors yours. I've observed Cobb's career since he started at Knott (the first time). He's one of the best X and O guys out there and many times he seemed to get outstanding results from relatively average talent.

It's a shame that he is developing such a stigma from more recent decisions and missteps. Wish him nothing but the best at Campbellsville.

Anyone know the staff situation he will inherit with the Eagles? Might Cobb have the chance to bring an assistant or two with him?
