Ok guys, I'm getting kind of sick of the nothing east of 75 talk. Who should have been a finalist that would have replaced on of these guys?
#4
There is not anyone East of I-75 more suited to be on that list than the 5 who are there, IMO.

I agree! If there were I could see this being brought up but there is not, and if there was a bias before this year, fine, but there is not showing to be one this year so it should not even be mentioned it takes away from the accomplishments of these five young men.
#6
as far as numbers go ron blume and durrell olinger

but i guess you have to break all world records if you are east of I75

I was the greatest,

I firmly believe that this is a career award, not just one good year. Also, numbers are not everything.

Do you think that either of these players have the talent of the other 5?

This award is for the best football player in the state, not for who put up the best numbers this year, if that were the case, wouldn't whoever the QB from Hawaii or Texas Tech is win the Heisman?
#8
True 98....as you pointed out, noone east of I75 deserves it over any of these guys. Maybe in past years, but not this season. So it shouldn't be an issue.

Congrats to these 5 GREAT players.....and may you all go to UK and dominate Smile

True, I agree that this is a career award so they probably shouldn't get it but what happens to the players who for the first 2 years of their high school career they are playing behind a Tim Couch or Jared Lorenzan(ie. Gino Guidugli)
their junior or senior years they are certainly deserving of the award if they put up the numbers.

I also think that the Heisman is bs...... just my thinking the QB for Texas Tech should have won the heisman last year he had something like 2000 yds in 4 games or 5 games something like that.

It is supposed to be the best player in the nation not the best player on the best team.

Durrell Olinger may very well have been the most overrated player in the state IMO..he gathered all his big numbers sgainst inferior 1A teams. In big games he wasn't very spectacular..and his big games were against second tier 1A teams. Who does Olinger have as claims to fame on his schedule? Perry Central (1-9 in AAA), Berea (1-9 1A), Prestonsburg (4-7 2A), Knott Central (3-7 2A, lost to Cawood which was the Trojan's only victory)....

Ron Blume also enjoyed exaggerated numebrs against inferior competition even by 3A standards. When you're best performances comes against 1A Painstville (second tier at best), Logan WV (consistently a WV 3A bottom feeder), Beckley Christian WV (who is a brand new program and at the very bottom of an extremely weak WV 1A), Bryan Station (BY FAR the worst team in Lexington and one of the worst 4A teams in the state), and your team makes a first round playoff exit on your homefield in a agame where you don't gain 100 yards.... that dooms you.

Unlike college, none of these guys play on the best team in the state.

Actually, only one is still playing right now, Burke.

I do think that Mr. Football is based too much on the college recruitment of players, but thats just me. These guys can play and I really couldn't think of anyone who should be on the list other than them.

i agree no competition for ollinger
but blume did have some competition
paintsville is no secong tier team they are a really good program and will be for a while

Painstville this year is sitting at home while Somerset plays NewCath...unless somethng drastic happens NewCath will continue the NKY 1A domination of the MT region. Over the past five years no Mountain 1A team has been within 3 TD's of Danville, NewCath, Beechwood, Mayfield, or this year Bardtsown... thus they are a second tier 1A team IMO.

It also doesn't help that Blume's claim to fame on a 3A team comes against a 1A team.....

Get where I am coming from here?

For example,,, if I amde the case that Matt Maynard is a better candidate than Ron Blume I would not note his performance against Pikeville but instead note how he fared against Henry Clay (loss, but played very well against 12-1 4A team who has been top 5 all year) or Ironton Ohio who narrowly missed knocking the top team in ohio off in the 3rd round.

Please, so you're saying b/c of that he was the best player i nthe nation last year? Surely you jest?
#15
Micah Johnson is the man
#16
There have been years when the east was snubbed for Mr. Football, but this isn't the year. This is a real toss up between Burke and Johnson. I think with Fort Campbell taking an earlier exit than they'd like, it really hurt his chances, but I still think Johnson wins it in the end.

All year long these 5 guy seem to have played some of the toughest competitors.. There aren't many teams east of I-75 that play this kind of comp. So I say these guys probably deserve it this year..
#21
Burke now has the upper hand--simply because he is from Lexington and Lex Cath continues in the playoffs.

However, Micah Johnson is the best pure football player in the state.

ON a different note--there needs to be some set criteria for Mr. Football (there maybe--but I haven't ever seen it). For instance--is it a yearly award--or should it be determined based off of that players career?

Also--it scares me that the media has a hand in this. They really have no real clue what is going on. This is something that should have, at the very least, a coaches vote (maybe 50/50 media/coaches).

Also--there has been bias in the past. I am not sure if it applies to this season.
#22
this is a very deserving group, there is not a single player on there that you could justify replacing with anyone else, i am sure there are some talented players west of I75 that didnt make the cut, these boys are simply the cream of the crop this season and i dont see how anyone can argue otherwise......that said i think its johnsons to lose.
#23
98 or hillbilly, do either of you have johnsons defensive stats for the year, TIA

Would'nt matter what they did, anyway. Mountain teams will always be looked down on by the Northern Kentucky Powers anyway. Just like I said in an earlier thread. The "Other Site" pointed this out daily, season after season, now it will come over here.

It will not be tolerated here daddycat, nor will we down NKY, we are here for EVERYONE, and everyone will have a fair chance to voice thier opinion.

I apologize. I must have just taken his comments in the wrong way. It was just his opinion that the MT teams were 2nd tier. It just seemed to be a dig to me.....Sorry.

Man you dont have to apologize, I was just wanting you to know that regardless of what part of the state you live in you won't have to worry about being put down on here. Right now we have a major Eastern Ky fanbase, but we are beginning to gain members from the north and west, and as a staff member, that is great news to me, but I understand your feelings completely, and I assure you we will do everything we can to ensure the fairness and fun on this site.

Hahah.. he's taking care of your ass and you call him a punk lol...

You northern people lol.. :wieghts:
