i wont say who they are, but will say there supposed to be some new players this year, thats all i can say..

heard they had some new players that were really good!! dont know the truth to it though.
05-12-2010, 07:51 AM
well id like to see them do good this year, but it may be a sub-par year, not a bad year but not a belfry domination type year either. i heard they had some good young talent, i cant wait til the season starts.

If teams wanted to get Belfry, then last year and the upcoming year was/are the times to do it. The Pirates have what is supposed to be one of the best waves of young talent the school has seen coming up.
I expect Belfry/SC/and Pike Central to be all fairly even this season with the slight edge going to Sheldon Clark. Belfry will be only as good as their defense and inside running game lets them be.

Belfry will be readily prepared and does have more than what many know about on the field. They will take their humps and bumps (nothing unusual about this)...... BUT I do think many will underestimate the Pirates this year...

I still think that Belfry is a year or two away from becoming the old Belfry that everyone dreads playing. I look for the Pirates to compete for a district and region championship this upcoming season.
Best of luck Pirates and I look forward to seeing you in August.

not sure what all the teams have coming back, but i see possible 2-3 (L) from what i know some teams have back, but dont count my boys out, they will be ready by the end of the year, and i say they dont go out 2nd round this year..

6-6 last year in 2A. Appear to be an average team. They beat Pikeville in last year's PCB.

The only definite loss is Johnson Central
Belfry will be the underdog against Letcher Central, Ashland, and Sheldon Clark
Belfry is even with Pburg
Belfry is a slight favorite over Pike Central and Whitley County
Optimist says Belfry goes 7-3
Pessimist says Belfry goes 5-5.
I will say 6-4 with losses to JC, SC, Ashland, and LCC.

I think if Belfrys defence is key for them having any success this season,Belfrys ground attack will be typical of every year.Belfry is always gonna come at ya.I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say 7-3.

Here's a little update on the possible 2010 Pirate Defense..
On the line, NG James Hardin (#77 - 6'1 - 325) returns and the big strong machine tears up centers, and stops the inside game. Big dude really clogs up the middle and it's evident if you watch the game film. At the DT spots, Stevan Gibbs (#33 6'3 - 180) is one of the most underrated players from last years team, he isn't very big but he's a solid tackler and reads very well, once again watch the film to see his impact. On the other side of big James will be Micah Mahon (6'4 - 250) who for personal reasons had to go to WV for his Junior year -- but was at Belfry his freshman and sophomore years. Micah is a pretty big kid who will hit anything, all state special mention in WV last year. Morgan Bentley (#16 - 6'2 - 215) returns at the DE, a strong kid who does very well at his position. The other end freed up by AJ Patrick graduating is expected to be filled by Tony Messer (#23 - 6'5 - 190) a sophomore who could produce very much on the field, but it could be filled by someone else.
At the linebacker spots, Gary Runyon (#5 - 6'2 - 185) returns and could be the key player of the front 7. He has plenty of experience and will be a big part of the 2010 Belfry team. The other linebacker, Payton Mullins (#17 - 5'9 - 215) returns with a year under his belt and only a sophomore. Very good at reading. Very strong his age.
At the safeties, Nathan Carroll (#20 - 5'10 - 170) returns. He is a very energetic player and will be the leader for the Pirates. He broke his leg in the last game last year and in my opinion it had a huge impact on the team. As far as his recovery, the first time he ran since November he ran a 4.85 fourty. The other safety could be occupied by Josh Dixon (#10 - 5'9 - 145) a smaller kid who is fast, strong, and doesn't care to hit.
The cornerback spots are up in the air... the possible corners are Trey Willis, Josh Francis, Howie Dotson, and a few more I can't remember.
Please remember this is just my guess at the defense but the talk around BHS is how good this defense is going to be. A big stout group of kids that should be exciting to watch. As far as the new kids, Micah shouldn't be considered one.
but there is another kid, don't wanna give too much info but I will give you guys a 40 time... 4.49.

If Mahon is back then that is a MASSIVE boost to Belfry's defense. Mahon saw substantial time as a Freshman and Sophomore who and many thought he was on his way to being a key starter for Belfry last year. I thought Belfry really missed him at times last year early in the season as they consistently were taking bad angles on plays and missing tackles. My question is will Mahon play DT or will they move him to DE? He was a LB before last season.

He was DT where he got special mention All State in WV, and Tony and a few others look nice at the DE spot so I'm thinking he's going to be playing DT. Micah is alot bigger than his freshman & sophomore years.

How many wins do you see the pirates puttin up this year?
05-21-2010, 06:18 PM
also there will be be a freshman by the name of timmy may that I think will see some playing time. As an 8th grader I thought he was awsome,He played fullback and linebacker for coach May
05-21-2010, 09:22 PM
the Messer kid has really good hands, can catch about anything you throw up, needs to get a little mean streak in him though..and glad gets come out now about the names expect for the speed kid but i still wont tell, lol
05-21-2010, 10:03 PM
All were timed for their speed a couple of days ago.... At this time... A will be junior has the fastest time in the 40.... BUT.... there are several who run the 40 in under 4.8

I agree with most of that. The gibbs kid i believe was the leading tackler last season, and is very under rated. I dont know much about mahon, or that messer will start, nathon carroll saw time at de last season and with the speed belfry has for the secondary he might get that spot full time, messor will see a lot of pt along with several other soph. This soph class is packed. For bhs secondary, dixon is strong and fast, francis is like a bolt of lightning and#22 is a kid who if the lights come on is packed with skill. As for timmy may i believe he can hit with any of the above, he needs to get faster, but playing at bhs as a frosh is easier said than done. The secondary is wide open i would like to see some 3-4 blits packs with a superior front 7

so what other sph you think will get plaing time this year? i knw there is alot of good players in that group

so who's gonna end up as Q.B. for the Pirates, there's a lot of rumors?
05-23-2010, 10:55 AM
Gibbs isn't overly muscular or have much meat on him. That's why I said he's not big. I didn't say he's small. Nathan did alright at DE, but he really loves that safety spot. I think they really like him there too, I don't see him moving around. As far as QB, I was impressed with Williams for the most part last season. He'll play much improved this season. But when we get up a few touchdowns, expect to see Sani Warren.
05-23-2010, 06:34 PM
How deep is Belfry in the Q.B. position?
