Looks like there is no news until there is news. Looks like a trip to the first day of practice is in order.

I haven't been reading much of this thread. I do have an interesting question for those who truly follow the Panthers. I do not want this to sound negative though. My question is, what do you all attribute to the reason that the Panthers show such great signs of becoming a power until playoff time? From the outside it would appear to be a mental thing. I mean last year they were thought by many to be the beast of the east after beating Hazard and Belfry. Then all of a sudden they splash in the playoffs. I noticed the year before they put in a great game to repay Raceland and the turn around and flop again. I think if they could be consistent they could be a handful.

Pikeville has some great teams that have lost in the playoffs early. In 2006 if you would of told me Hazard would get killed by Pikeville in the regular season and then lose on a last second field goal I wouldn't of believed you. I was at that game but my cousin was carted off and put in an ambulance so I missed it. I didn't believe it when the team came and said they won. I had to watch it on Sports OT. 2013 and 2014 was good years for Pikeville but fell short. I am still in shock that Paintsville won that game.

As am I. I really was expecting us to be playing them in BG last year. That's why I asked the question. They got the Jekell and Hyde thing going on.

Now, with some stability in the HC position, re-focused attention to the youth programs, etc, it's been a process of rebuilding. The next step is to overcome the mental part that requires the same focus in game one as games 12-15. They will be fine. But last years season ended to Paintsville was a true gut punch. May have been just what the doctor ordered though, to get Coach Macs message across to take every opponent seriously. Also, the timing of injuries sucked. Paintsville was decimated on their line at the first game, had everyone back by playoff time. Pikeville was nicked and dinged come playoff time and had Estepplaying on one foot. That's NOT why they lost solely, before anyone takes offense to that. But was a big contributing factor. All programs go through it at one time or another.

I agree. Hazard hasn't made it to the state semis since 2012. That's just 2 years. There was a good stretch of talent from 2006-2012. But Hazard will be back just as Pikeville is on the rise.

PHS said it right. All programs seem to cycle through this at some point in time. Understandably it takes more of a toll on smaller schools more often than not. Imo, future looks great for Pikeville. Panthers had what it took last season to be in Bowling Green with the talent that was (and still is ) there. Jmo, I think the mental aspect had an impact in the Paintsville game. Good teams overcome that part, and that just may have been a very valuable lesson learned. Really looking forward to this season at PHS.

That is exactly what I was suspecting. That is why I asked the question. It seems more like a mental thing. We went through that from 2006 through 2008. We had very good talent and coaching. We just had some mental issues. The good news is that we corrected it.

They traded for me... it was the residual from Jordan Scott coming back last year. Pikeville got me... Belfry got Scott and a waterboy to be named later (jetpilot)
