I wish Ben and Chris would start teaching and coaching today at Pikeville. Can not wait until this football season starts!!!!!!!!!

Coach Howard is already drawing retirement from teaching / coaching / administrative duties from Pikeville. He now has a classified position in Letcher County that pays quite well. I'm almost certain you have to be in this type of position for 5 YEARS to draw another retirement. With that being said, after the 2009-2010 school year he will have five years in.
Wouldn't be surpised to see him in maroon in the fall of 2010, maybe in another classified position.

I just joined rivals and apparently its a good thing because i didn't even know BH was given this job and I live in Pike County! I have been in FL for a couple weeks however, so maybe that's the reason. Congrats to him though, this job is a pretty big responsibility, i sure hope he's up for it???!!

I did finally run into mr. howard this past weekend at the PHS vs Betsy L game. I had questioned his ability to take on this type of responsibility but after very briefly talking with him and a host of others close to the program I think this man will be an incredible addition to the panthers. I had the honor of meeting the extremely beautiful young girl i've heard so much about accompanying him and they both seem very grounded and charming and full of life. I left there with a good feeling about the future of Pikeville High athletics. It looks like we may see the old days again but even better possbily!
I wanted to post this because I felt a little regretful of an earlier comment that I made about whether or not he was ready for this responsibilty. I'm sure that he is. So congrats to Ben Howard and all close to him also congrats to the admin and those involved with the hire. Good job!

I love what you said here TheHamptons, if people are hesitant at first they won't be once they meet and talk with coach howard and get a understanding of where he is going with everything. I saw the two of them in town a few weekends ago. Pikeville is lucky to have him and hopefully her!
