Paintsville and Pikeville possibly Looking for New Basketball Coaches?

Hard telling to be honest, his name has been linked to that job the last 4 years now I think we're up to.

But he knows the rumors and hearsay is out there, and we've talked about it several times, but never really delved into him actually leaving the situation he is in, going into unknown waters at Floyd Central, just talked about the fact that how funny it is that his name is linked to it every single off-season.

If Coach Justice does resign, which I have no idea if there is any validity to that, I would hope they open up the search and not just give it to an assistant. Now granted if they feel like the assistant is the best option, by all means go for it, but going into the process with an open mind would be a smart move in my opinion.

Floyd County BOE politics is terrible at the moment, so I would be surprised if he #1 leaves Paintsville, and #2 takes ANY job in Floyd county. If he resigns then I would wager that it's not because he wants to. If Paintsville forces him out then it would be just another brick in the wall of catastrophic errors in judgment by the AD at Paintsville. All of their athletic programs are trending downhill right now except for basketball, and that's mainly because Landon Slone is an excellent coach.
What are you talking about other than the girls basketball coach deal that happened last year? The baseball team was young last year, and is still gonna be young this year, and they’re good. No one knows how football will turn out, just like no one knew Pburg would have the season they had.

Football program is in bad shape, man. Granted, Pburg was too before last year, but there’s no guarantees with a new coach. Pburg made an amazing hire, we will see if Paintsville did too, but it’s not common to resurrect a program in a year or two. I believe It’ll recover at some point, with somebody, but you have to admit that the fall was shockingly precipitous. Just think- State champs in ‘20, now in ‘25 they’ll be lucky to finish 2nd in their district for possibly a good 5-6 years, at least, with Hazard on the rise and pikeville being pikeville. You mentioned the girls coach last year, so I won’t. Baseball will be ok, I guess. If they force Landon Slone out it’ll be catastrophic for that program, I think… My main focus is the football program though. Replacing Chirico with Hoskins worked out just about as well (better, granted) as Pburg replacing Derossett with Brewer. Paintsville worked out the bad hire faster than Pburg did, but there’s still a reason that I don’t know yet behind why they’ve lost so much talent through transfers the last couple of years. Possible that it was Hoskins, but it could be bigger than that. If Slone isn’t coaching at Paintsville next year then I’ll be convinced that Hoskins wasn’t the reason.

I’m not sure where “forcing Slone out” came from, but I know that ain’t happening. As for Slone taking the Floyd Central job like some have mentioned in the thread, that has been a rumor all year long. I’ve been hearing it since the beginning of the school year. I’d still have to see it to believe it. I can answer one thing though, no one is trying to run Slone off at Paintsville.

From what I’ve heard on the inside of Pikeville and Paintsville basketball neither of these are true.

Not saying they won’t happen but currently nobody has resigned.

I had talked to parent earlier in the week who said Landon had told the kids on Facebook that he was stepping down. Talked to the same parent again today and was shown the post. He thanked the players and parents for a great season, and it was honor to coach them this year. It was the standard stuff most coaches say at the end of the year. So at least from my point of view this may be just some kids and parents misinterpreting a pretty standard end of year message from a coach.

That doesn't mean it is impossible he leaves but this has probably been blown out of proportion.

Take it from me, Landon just completed his 9th season as Paintsville HC, and at the end of every single season, he has a Facebook post like this, thanking his players, staff, parents for letting him coach & teach their kids, it is commonplace, no way shape or form is this a sign of him stepping down or being forced out.

Sounds like that parent's reading comprehension skills aren't the greatest if he/she took that like he was resigning.

@sacbunt What happened? Did they both decide to come back?

A question mark in the thread title
Then says "looks like"

Scam.
Thread should be deleted and scammer should get a forced vacation from BGR to think about it.

I'll agree, then to add on to that forced vacation? Make it permanent.

Holland to Pikeville

If justice resigns, it’ll be Jordan Perry cause he deserves it. Hard worker & the kids love him, it won’t be holland.

Off-season is usually always more fun than the actual season, especially on here bc you will hear some of the most outlandish and wildest rumors of all-time, a very small percentage of them have actually came true.

I love to know how true it is if any teams in Floyd co are actually serious about coaching changes. I heard Moore was stepping down from Floyd but there been no concrete evidence and Betsy Layne was replacing Howard. Not saying any of this is true just heard it.

I’ve heard the same actually. Then once the hire is made at BL (not naming names but one has been mentioned), most of the FC boys are transferring to BL.

Same thing was told when said person took over at the middle school. No one came in the last 2 years. I’ve heard that if a change is made at BL, there will be a couple not play/transfer out.

Howard only had one season at bl and really done great.so if he does leave I hope he gets pick back up. I’ve also heard a few players at BL will leave if a certain person takes over but Moore had since 2019 to start something special over there at Floyd. Same staff was coaching girls south Floyd team and first Floyd central so they had time to establish a wining culture.

Howard has coached the last 2 seasons at BL. Win total increased each of last 2 seasons and a district championship this season. Yeah, Moore has had plenty of time, only made it to district finals 1x in his tenure.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Jim Hicks was the boys coach at Pike Central next year. Word is he has worn out his welcome at JC and Pike Central parents are wanting a change.

Yeah, I think he wears out his welcome every where.

what made it worse this year for Moore and his staff was if it wasn’t for super regional rules his season would had ended quick. Then there was christian Johnson who would come out and play for only 2-5 mins and sit. I don’t know the whole story behind why he was sitting so much but the kid really work hard. Then he play players who scream at him and sit this kid. The situation made no sense.

Is this "certain person" at Betsy Layne Robbie Johnson by any chance? Floyd Central or Betsy Layne would be lucky to have him.

I certainly won’t deny that possibly being the certain person.

He do a great job I think at Floyd  and I’d love to see him, mason hall, larry mullins, or Todd Howard be the coach up there. I think all of them could do a great job.
#87
If Mason Hall coached Betsy Layne this past season, I think they would have won the 15th Region. Kind of surprised Larry hasn't moved up to high school yet. Great player and great coach as well.
#88
Going to be interesting now the Floyd Central will have a new principal.

I think Landon stays at Paintsville. If anyone moves on, I think it’s Justice at Pikeville, atleast for a couple years.

I think half the region will have new coaches.

Magoffin, FC, Pburg, ER, Pike Central, Phelps and maybe BL.
#89
I don't think Slone or Justice leaves.

Magoffin, FC, Phelps and Pike Central I do see coming available. Pike Central will be taken by Newsome after they "go through the applicants."

I could see Hicks leaving for a boy's job. But outside Floyd Central, are there any jobs better that what he currently has? One thing for sure is, Hicks will not go to a program that isn't ready to win now.

Why would Betsy Layne or East Ridge be open?
Especially East Ridge. Their administration doesn't want to win. That's why they hired the people they did on their last 2 hires.
I have also heard the Johnson name attached to the Betsy Layne job. I personally think anyone being considered for a High School head coaching job, should be required to have some high school coaching experience. Rather that be a head or assistant coach.

I’ve seen mason hall do some great things I was hoping he take over one of the Floyd co programs.
